1926 | Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Alkoholfrei | Germany | Reduced Alcohol | 2.1
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 500 ml bottle, bought in Sweden. ABV is 0.5%. Golden colour, slightly hazy, huge white head. The aroma has some hefeweizen notes of banana and cloves, but also hints of the more typical n/a beer notes like over-boiled vegetables and baby porridge. Not quite as bad as many other n/a beers, though. The mouthfeel is thin, as expected. The bland flavour has some weak notes of citrus and wheat malts, hardly any noticeable hops. |

1927 | Störtebeker 1402 Alkoholfrei | Germany | Reduced Alcohol | 1.9
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 330 ml bottle, bought in Sweden. ABV max. 0.5%. Crystal clear very pale yellow colour, big white head. Typical n/a beer aroma of baby porridge and over-boiled vegetables. Moderate carbonation in the glass, soft mouthfeel. The flavour has also the usual n/a beer "over-boiled" character. However, there are noticeable hops, also hints of citrus, making the beer a tad better than "undrinkable". Very far from "good", though. |

1928 | Maisels Weisse Alkoholfrei | Germany | Reduced Alcohol | 2.2
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 4 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Hazy brownish golden colour, big and lasting white head. The usual n/a beer aroma of baby porridge, but also notes of malts, with some wheaty hints of cloves. Soft mouthfeel, light bodied but tolerably refreshing when cold. The flavour has again notes of baby porridge, also over-boiled vegetables and dusty malts. A slight citrussy acidity. Minimal hops, bland finish. |

1929 | Georg Schneider’s Wiesen Edel-Weisse | Germany | Hefeweizen | 3.9
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8 500 ml bottle, as Schneider Weisse Tap 4 Mein Grünes (new name), courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Brewed with organic ingredients. ABV is 6.2%. Hazy brownish golden colour, big head, slightly off-white. Strong and lovely aroma of ripe bananas and cloves. Soft mouthfeel. The flavour is reasonably malty for a hefeweizen, with distinct notes of cloves. Very moderate hops. The alcohol is well hidden. Good beer. |

1930 | Weihenstephaner Vitus | Germany | Weizenbock | 3.8
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.7%. Very pale yellow colour, hazy, with a huge white head. Much paler than any other weizenbock I’ve had. Lovely typical sweetish hefeweizen aroma with notes of ripe bananas, cloves and bubblegum. The flavour is sweet and fruity, but still fairly light bodied for its strength. Moderate notes of cloves, very moderate hops. A very different character compared to e.g. Schneider Aventinus, but nice enough to drink. |

1931 | Kraus Hirschaid Pils | Germany | Bohemian / Czech Pilsener | 2.9
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml brown bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 4.7%. Pale golden colour, decent head. Unusual aroma for a German pils: butterscotch, boiled vegetables, rotting grass, some malts. Where are the aromatic hops? Aroma gets slightly better as the beer warms up a little, and the butterscotch dominates. Flavour is somewhat better than the aroma, there’s a certain hoppy bitterness on a moderate and slightly sweet malty base, hints of butterscotch in the background. Drinkable, but Kraus Lager is better! |

1932 | St. Georgen Bräu Kellerbier | Germany | Kellerbier | 3.8
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml capped brown bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 4.9%. "Ungespundet - hefetrüb". Deep golden to amber colour, large and creamy lingering head. Lovely aroma of hops, caramel and bakery. Moderate carbonation, soft mouthfeel. Mellow flavour with a delicate balance between malts and hops, notes of rye bread, hints of butterscotch. I’d like a tad more bittering hops for the aftertaste, though. Definitely a recommendable beer. |

1933 | Holsten Premium | Germany | Lager | 2.6
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 500 ml can, as Holsten Premium Lager. ABV is 5.0%. Golden colour, moderate head. Standard pale lager aroma, grassy notes. Flavour has first some sweetness, then a certain bitterness takes over, metallic notes. Not a great beer by any means, but as international pale lagers go: I’ve had worse. |

1935 | Perlenbacher Premium Pils | Germany | Bohemian / Czech Pilsener | 2.7
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 5 500 ml bottle, from LIDL Norway. ABV here is 4.7%, in Germany it is 4.9%. Very pale golden colour, moderate head. Sweetish aroma, some fruit and cooked vegetables, some grass too. Very light bodied, thin mouthfeel, minimal malts, but a tolerable hoppy bitterness, which is not quite as metallic as in most other LIDL beers. Easy drinking, not offensive. |

1936 | Salitos Cerveza Especial | Germany | Pale Lager | 2.1
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 330 ml clear bottle, ABV is 4.7%. Despite being bought at ICA Gourmet in Oslo: this not a beer for gourmets, nor for people who love good beer. Crystal clear pale yellow colour, big to moderate head. "Skunky" sweetish aroma, notes of citrus. Soft mouthfeel. The flavour is fairly sweet with a hint of citrus, minimal bitterness. Boring as hell, but not repulsive when cold. May serve as a thirstquencher on hot days, for people who otherwise would buy Corona or Sol. My first bottle (which I actually paid for) will also be my last. |

Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 Bottle (or was it can?), ABV 2.5%, at RBNAG 2009 in Vatlandsvåg. The first radler or shandy that I’ve actually rated. Pale golden colour, low head. Aroma of lemon soda and dishwater liquid. Flavour of lemon soda with hints of a standard pilsener. |

1946 | Beck's Green Lemon | Germany | Fruit Beer | 2.0
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 3 330 ml clear pale green bottle, a gift from my son Steinar (bought at Bremen Airport). ABV is 2.5%. Crystal clear greenish yellow (or yellowish green) colour, moderate off-white head with a greenish hue. Fruity weak aroma, notes of lime and lemons. The sweetish flavour has notes of lime and sugar, refreshing in its own peculiar way, hardly any bitterness. Blindfolded I would probably not have guessed that this was a beer at all. Not undrinkable though, at least when cold. |

1947 | Engel Kristall Weizen | Germany | Krystal Weizen | 3.4

Crystal clear very pale yellow colour, huge white head. Moderate but pleasant aroma of citrus, banana and cloves. The flavour is zesty and quite refreshing, with weak notes of banana and cloves. The mouthfeel is rather thin. |

1948 | Erdinger Urweisse | Germany | Hefeweizen | 3.5
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.2%. When the beer is poured the glass fills completely with a huge white foam, which slowly lets a deep golden hazy beer emerge. Typical hefeweizen aroma with strong notes of cloves, also ripe bananas and bubblegum. The mouthfeel is slightly fuller than the ordinary Erdinger Hefe-Weissbier. The flavour has again sweetish notes of ripe bananas, also moderate notes of cloves. The finish is rather bland with minimal hops. |
