1601 | Kanterbräu | France | Pale Lager | 2.9
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 An average standard French pale lager, in the Alsacian German-influenced brewing tradition. Seems to have a more local Alsacian following than Kronenbourg and Kronenbourg 1664, which you get all over France. In later years Kanterbräu seems to have become more of a discount beer than the other two. Nothing special. Kronenbourg 1664 is slightly better. |

1602 | 33 Export | France | Pale Lager | 2.5
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 I had this beer French brewed (it IS also a French brew originally, not Vietnamese, even if it's also brewed under licence in Vietnam and most Americans know it in that version). Also brewed at Heineken's brewery in Morocco. It worked well in the summer heat of the French Riviera, but it's really a very average lager, at the best. |

1603 | XO Beer | France | Biere de Garde | 2.3
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 (330 ml bottle, ABV 5.9%). Weird beer! - but then, mixing cognac in beer IS a weird idea! The result: Aroma and flavour neither of beer nor cognac - but of RASPBERRIES!! and boysenberries. Rather sweet, but not as sweet as the aroma makes you fear. Not really godawful, but definitely not a beer I'll buy again. Beer is beer, and cognac is cognac - and never shall the two meet (again)! BTW, I think the beer used in this blend is a lager, not an ale - but I'm not 100% sure. |

1604 | Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc | France | Witbier | 3.3
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 300 ml white painted bottle, at Cardinal, Stavanger. Colour is typical wit: Hazy, very pale straw coloured. Moderate head. Strong aroma of coriander, yeast and some citrus, and if I’m unkind: even some notes of perfumed shampoo and hints of vomit. Flavour is VERY citrussy / LEMONY, notes of coriander too. A bit too lemony for me, but definitely a refreshing beer for hot summer days. Just a faint bitterness in the aftertaste. The chicks might like it! |

1609 | Kronenbourg Maître Kanter La Réserve | France | Strong Lager | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 650 ml swingtop bottle, bought in France. Called a "bière blonde" on the bottle, not a "bière de garde". Golden colour, large head. Moderate yeasty and fruity aroma. Tastes like a well-balanced golden strong lager, pleasant sweetness, tolerable hops. La Réserve may not be a true masterpiece, but I’m still surprised that this very drinkable beer has that many low ratings on other websites. |

1610 | Fischer La Belle (Tradition) | France | Pale Lager | 2.9
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 650 ml swingtop bottle, named "Fischer Tradition", bought in France. Golden colour, large head, leaves a nice lacing. Nice fruity sweet aroma, notes of grass too, hints of spices. Flavour is your average pale lager with some alcoholic sweet notes added. I might have guessed that the ABV was even higher than its 6.0%. I have definitely had better beers, but I’ve had worse too! Not a beer to search out, but the empty bottle will be useful for your homebrew. |

1611 | Doreleï | France | Spiced Beer | 2.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 500 ml clear swingtop & silk print bottle, bought in France. Deep golden to amber colour, decent head and lacing. Unusual sweetish fruity and candy aroma, notes of cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla, herbs and boiled vegetables too. Sweetish and sugary flavour, notes of vanilla, cinnamon and other spices. Lagerish mouthfeel. I don’t quite know what to make of this beer - it’s something out of the ordinary, but in the end it’s just too sugary and weird for my taste. |

1612 | Blonderbräu | France | Pale Lager | 2.5
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 250 ml bottle, bought in France. ABV is 4.6%. Golden colour, decent head. Grassery and flowery sweet aroma, hints of honey. Light bodied, bland pale lager flavour, not much nor very good hops. Some metallic notes. Not a beer to search out. |

1613 | Cimes LAiguille Blanche | France | Witbier | 3.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 330 ml blue bottle, bought in France. Hazy pale golden colour, large to small head. Pleasant aroma of coriander and citrus. Flavour is very citrussy (lemons) with moderate coriander notes, fruity sour more than sweet. Refreshing. Sourish dry and short finish. Okay. |

1614 | Pietra | France | Vienna / Amber Lager | 2.8
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 330 ml bottle, labeled Pietra Bière Ambrée, bought in France. My first Corsican beer. Amber colour, large head. Nutty aroma with toffee and undefined herbal notes. Flavour is moderately malty with not-too-good hops, the chestnuts shine through. Chestnut powder in beer, WTF? Some strange medicinal character and a bitter finish and aftertaste. Not my favourite this one. |

1615 | Wel Scotch | France | Lager | 3.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 250 ml bottle, bought in France. Amber colour, large off-white head. Strong sweetish aroma with notes of whisky (or rather: whisky liqueur). Flavour is very sweet and sugary, the notes of peat-smoked malts are there, but seem somehow displaced in this sugary environment. Besides the sweetness and smoked malts the beer is relatively light-bodied, without much complexity. Won’t be my favourite tipple this one, but it is not undrinkable. A 250 ml bottle is enough, though. |

1616 | George Killians Bière Rousse (French Strong) | France | Irish Ale | 3.2
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml can, as George Killian’s Bière Rousse (Bière Spéciale de Tradition Irlandaise), bought in France. ABV is 6.5%. Reddish amber colour, large off-white head. Moderate malty sweet aroma with notes of caramel and fruit. Flavour is also moderately malty with some caramel, very moderate hops. Little complexity. Drinkable beer, but nothing to get excited about. |

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml can, bought in France. ABV is 7.5%. Deep amber colour, nearly clear. Large off-white head. Pleasant malty aroma with notes of aromatic hops, leather and oak. Malty and oaky flavour with tolerable hops, notes of toffee and caramel. Not bad at all for a canned beer! |

Pleasant flowery and fruity aroma, also notes of honey and leather. Flavour is spicy and somewhat alcoholic, with a peppery finish. Well worth sampling. |

1620 | Château de Brouay Brut Cidre de Normandie | France | Cider | 3.2
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7 750 ml corked "champagne" bottle. Bought in Norway (Vinmonopolet). Pours very fizzy, moderate carbonation in the glass. No lasting head. Hazy golden colour. Intense aroma of cider apples, notes of barnyard, hints of ammonium, oak and leather. Fairly mellow flavour of cider apples, hints of oak, sweeter than expected from a brut. OKish and easy drinking, but lacks "bite". Bottle might have been over the hilltop. |

1621 | Trégor Sant Patern / Saint Paterne | France | Spiced Beer | 3.8
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8 330 ml bottle, bought at Mahlers Vinhandel, Frederikshavn, Denmark. Hazy golden to amber colour, moderate white head. Very nice yeasty, fruity and spicy aroma. Started drinking it too cold, but spices and herbs (various), moderate malts and fairly decent hops come through. Refreshing and pleasant, fairly dry. Not a bad beer. |

1624 | St. Sylvestre Trois Monts Flanders Gold | France | Biere de Garde | 3.8
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 (750 ml corked bottle). Pale golden pilsener-like colour, . Large lasting head. Spicy aroma. Flavour is spicy white wine-like, a bit alcoholic. Well balanced, nice aftertaste. A good beer, but I don't find it quite as complex as some other raters do. |

1625 | Castelain ChTi Blonde (St. Amand) | France | Biere de Garde | 3.9
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 750 ml bottle, corked "champagne" style, bought in Denmark. Pale golden colour, like a pilsener. Enormous and lingering fluffy white head, leaves a nice lacing. Delicate yeasty aroma with notes of grass, flowers and honey. Pleasant mild flavour with a certain spicyness and decent hops, but light bodied for its 6.4% ABV. Well balanced and "dangerously drinkable". |
