1526 Saku The Cream of Dublin Estonia Irish Ale 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

500 ml bottle, arbitrary sample. ABV is 4.2%. Might be imported to Norway, if a certain pubowner (not one of your usual suspects) gets it his way. Dark ruby colour, low creamy beige head. "Dusty" boring aroma. Smooth flavour, malts and a mild roastiness, low bitterness. Closer to an Irish Red Ale than a stout IMO. Drinkable, but not exciting.

1527 Saku Originaal Estonia Pale Lager 2.7

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

Rerate 500 ml bottle, from a potential importer. ABV is 4.6%. Very pale yellow colour, large white head. Fairly strong sweetish and grassy aroma. The flavour is rather sweet, again with some grassy notes, and the bitterness is too moderate. Far from undrinkable, though.

1528 Saku Rock Estonia Lager 2.3

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

500 ml bottle, as Saku Rock Alternative Premium, from a potential importer. ABV is 5.3%. Pale golden colour, large and lasting white head. Moderate sweetish aroma, some pilsener malts. The flavour is not too sweet, but very bland, and the hops are very moderate. However, there are no offensive off-flavours, and I can see that this beer may "go home" with its apparent target group, young people who are really not into beer yet. Tolerably refreshing when cold.

1537 Saku Kuld Export Estonia Pale Lager 2.4

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

500 ml can, thanks to KnutAlbert. ABV is 4.5%. Normally the "export" version of a beer is stronger than the "ordinary" version, but in this case it is weaker! Crystal clear very pale golden colour, big white head. Moderate fruity aroma, citrus and candy. Light bodied, thin mouthfeel. The flavour is sweet and sugary, with minimal hops. Not much to write home about here - nor to export.

1538 A. Le Coq Jouluporter Estonia Baltic Porter 4.1

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

(0,5 liter bottle.) Whooa... an Estonian Christmas porter, available in Norway, even! This one is 1% stronger and more spicy than their ordinary porter , to obtain a "real" Christmas character. Dark brown colour, low head, lightly roasted spicy coffee aroma and flavour, decent bitterness in the aftertaste. Lots of delicious flavour and sufficient alcohol here, still a slightly thinner mouthfeel than some other porters (probably because it's bottom fermented) - which, however, will not stop me from buying this goody again. I had it on its own, must also be a great accompaniment with Nordic Christmas fare in the rougher end of the scale. Sweet, but not too much. All in all a Christmas beer to be recommended.

1539 A. Le Coq Porter Estonia Baltic Porter 3.6

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

(500 ml bottle). Reddish brown colour, decent head. Aroma of caramel and leather. Not as sweet as I expected. Malty caramel flavour with just a slight roastiness, in a blind test I would surely classify this beer as a strong dunkel, not a Baltic porter. Relatively thin bodied, not nearly as good as their Jõuluporter (Christmas Porter). Disappointing for its style, if disregarding style you may find this as a decent and drinkable beer.

1542 Föroya Bjór X-mas 1888 Faroe Islands Spiced Beer 3.4

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

330 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 5.8%. Copper coloured beer, big to moderate off-white head with an orangey hue. Strong sweetish aroma with loads of Christmas spices (nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom etc.), nearly "gløgg" (=mulled and spiced wine). Too much carbonation in the mouth. The flavour is not as sweet as I feared, but has loads of the above Christmas spices. Definitely drinkable, but not what you would call "well balanced". The finish is a bit "empty", could use more hops.

1543 Föroya Bjór Jolabryggj Faroe Islands Lager 2.4

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 4

330 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 5.8%. Clear deep golden to brown colour, big white head. Weird aroma of "dusty" malts, loads of silage and grassy hops, a hint of caramel. Plenty of carbonation in the mouth. The flavour is medium sweet, with a moderate acidity, hints of caramel and grass. Not very good.

330 ml can, from the minibar in my room at Hotel Føroyar, Torshavn. ABV is 5.8%. Deep golden to amber colour, moderate white head. Moderate and unexciting aroma, some malts, just a hint of grassy hops. Fairly refreshing and well balanced flavour, where both the malts and acceptable hops come through nicely, no offensive side-flavours.

330 ml bottle, from a grocery store in Torshavn. ABV is 2.8%. Golden colour, pours fizzy with a short-lived head. Aroma of unhopped pilsener wort, notes of grain and cooked vegetables. Fizzy and watery mouthfeel. The flavour is grainy and dull, hardly any hops, sourish and metallic finish. One to forget.

1548 Föroya Bjór Black Sheep Faroe Islands Pale Lager 3.1

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6

On tap at Hotel Føroyar, Torshavn. Beautiful chestnut colour, moderate off-white head, some lacing. Moderate but nice aroma of malts and caramel. Flavour of caramel and diacetyl, but not too sweet, with the "house character" metallic and slightly sourish finish.

1549 Okkara Ólavur Faroe Islands Blonde Ale 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

On tap at The Irish Pub, Torshavn. Pale golden colour, slightly hazy, minimal head. Aroma of diacetyl / butterscotch, not unpleasant though. The flavour has also one-dimensional notes of diacetyl / butterscotch (but is not too sweet), moderate hops in the finish. No masterpiece this one.

1550 Okkara Rinkusteinur Faroe Islands Amber Ale 3.3

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

500 ml bottle, from Rúsan, Torshavn. ABV is 5.8%. Brewed with Faroese volcanic rocks that are heated to 800 degrees C before they are placed in the wort. Reddish amber colour, pearly carbonation, low off-white head. Nice aroma of malts, caramel and some grassy hops. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour has some malts and caramel, without being sweet, but the body is too thin for its strength, and the hops are too moderate. Still a drinkable beer.
