126 | Mongozo Coconut 3.5% | Belgium | Fruit Beer | 2.2
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 330 ml bottle. This is obviously a different beer from the 7% ABV Mongozo Coconut. This one is probably brewed for the Swedish market (Sweden has a 3.5% limit for beers sold in grocery stores), but it is now also available in Norway (ULTRA stores a.o.). Gushes out of the bottle, opaque straw colored, decent white head. INTENSE sweet aroma of coconut suntan oil, which is a smell I like, but not necessarily in beer! More unpleasant "chemical" notes come through later on. Flavour is very sweet and reminds me of the coconut & sugar filling in Bounty chocolates. Pretty bad beer, but not quite as disgusting as Mongozo Banana. |

Flavour is very malty and sweet with a warming mouthfeel, elements of Christmas spices and old sherry. Very good. Yummy! |

128 | Belle-Vue Kriek | Belgium | Fruit Lambic | 3.9
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 375 ml corked bottle, champagne style, bought in Prague. Label says: P.H. Wandenstock Belle-Vue Kriek Lambic. ABV is 5.1%. Brewed by Interbrew Belgium, distributed in the Czech Republic by Staropramen. Beautiful red colour, large pink foamy head. Lovely aroma of sour cherries. Flavour is of course sour cherries too, initially sweet, with a hint of hops. Not very complex, and the finish is surprisingly short. |

129 | Westvleteren Abt 12 | Belgium | Abbey Quadrupel | 4.4
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 10 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 330 ml bottle, bought at Pivni Galerie, Prague. Hazy dark reddish brown colour, enormous tan head. Lovely complex aroma of fruits, oak, leather and spices. Flavour is surprisingly bitter - hops of course, but also dead yeast cells? Leaves a not entirely pleasant bitter aftertaste on the back of my tongue. Elements of oak, caramel, toffee and spices. Warming mouthfeel, as expected. I much preferred the Rochefort 10 to this one. |

130 | Abbaye des Rocs Brune | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 4.1
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 330 ml bottle, as Abbaye des Rocs Brune, bought at Pivni Galerie, Prague. Murky brown colour with floaties, enormous lingering head. Strong fruity aroma (cherries, prunes) with notes of leather, caramel and oak, hints of barnyard. Flavour is intensely oaky and malty with notes of smoke, dried fruits and spices. Alcohol is evident. Moderate sweetness, bitter and oaky aftertaste. Not for beginners this one. |

131 | Leffe Tripel | Belgium | Abbey Tripel | 4.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 (330 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV was 8.5%.) Hazy golden colour, large lasting head. Strong sweetish yeasty and fruity aroma. Flavour is sweet but not cloying, yeasty and spicy (cloves), reasonably malty with a decent hoppy bitterness which leaves a pleasant aftertaste. Not a bad triple, but like others of this style the yeast is a bit too dominant to be "perfect" in my book. I won’t mind having another one, though. You’re buying? Thank you very much, mate! |

132 | Leffe Radieuse | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 3.8
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7 33 cl bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV was 8.2%. Large thick head, clear reddish brown colour. Surprisingly weak aroma, but what there is, is pleasant: Ripe and dried fruits, just a faint hint of barnyard. Flavour has malts and spices and a great deal of alcoholic warmth. |

133 | Mort Subite Kriek | Belgium | Fruit Lambic | 3.8
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8 375 ml corked bottle (champagne style). Enormous thick head, red colour, aroma is cherries (no surprise!) and red wine vinegar. Flavour is not nearly as sweet as Lindemans Kriek, quite dry really. Light bodied, but lots of cherries of course. Refreshing. Initially a little peppery bite. Moderately acidic. |

134 | Cantillon Gueuze | Belgium | Gueuze | 4.2
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 10 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 375 ml corked bottle. Large head, disappears rapidly. Deep golden colour, cloudy when the yeast is poured. Heavenly aroma of barnyard and ensilage with white wine vinegar elements. Flavour is crisp and very dry, reminiscent of a very dry white wine or brut champagne. Not as complex as I expected. Really a beer for the "Champagne Brut" people. |

135 | Grimbergen Triple | Belgium | Abbey Tripel | 3.6
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 (33 cl bottle). Golden beer with a slight yeast haziness, large head. Very weak initial aroma, improves as the beer warms up - I get caramel, oak, honey and apricot. Very sweet fruity and honeylike flavour, next to cloying, low bitterness - a dessert beer, I'd say. Overall I'm a bit disappointed with this one, you expect more from the Belgians. |

136 | Grimbergen Double | Belgium | Abbey Dubbel | 3.8
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8 (33 cl bottle). Beautiful reddish colour, good head. Surprisingly weak initial aroma, improves as the beer warms up - toffee, caramel and oak. Malty caramel flavour with some cloves, a tad too sweet for my taste. Needs some more hops to balance the sweetness. Malty, rounded aftertaste. |

139 | Delirium Noel | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 4.1
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 750 ml painted (mock stoneware) corked bottle, now available in Norway (despite some objections by the humour & morality police). Amber to brown colour, large off-white head with an orangey hue. Malty sweetish aroma with strong notes of caramel, treacle and Christmas spices, also notes of yeast and oak. Flavour is very spicy and sweet (candy sugar) with a pleasant warming mouthfeel. There’s a hoppy and spicy (and slightly alcoholic) bite in the finish. A demanding beer, but not bad. |

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Draught in Nice, France, as "Bière Blanche de Floreffe". Served with a quarter slice of lemon, which I instantly pulled out of the glass. Hazy pale colour. Pleasant lemony aroma, some spice too. Moderate citrussy flavour, faint notes of coriander. Drinkable and refreshing, but not a "big" beer |

142 | Affligem Blonde | Belgium | Belgian Ale | 3.7
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Rerate, 330 ml bottle, will soon be available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.8%. Pale yellow colour, huge white head.Sweetish aroma, floral, spicy / herbal and grassy notes. The flavour is crisp and not too sweet, spicy and herbal notes again, decent hops in the finish. Original rating: Draught in Nice, France. Listed simply as "Affligem" on the menu, but I presume it was the Blond. Served in appropriate glass. Golden colour, low head, moderate carbonation. Very pleasant and spicy aroma and flavour, notes of oak and yeast too. Good beer! |

145 | Saison Dupont Biologique | Belgium | Saison | 3.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 250 ml bottle, now available in Norway (Vinmonopolet). Hazy pale golden colour, large foamy and lingering head. Very nice fruity, yeasty and spicy aroma, hints of oak and barnyard. Light bodied, initially fruity (citrus) and peppery flavour, then a distinct wormwood-like bitterness takes over, and dominates the finish and aftertaste. |

146 | Lindemans Gueuze | Belgium | Gueuze | 3.1
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 375 ml capped and corked bottle, as Gueuze Foudroyante, bought in France. ABV is 4.0%. Hazy dark amber colour, large to moderate off-white head. Sweet and sourish aroma, reminiscent of some cheap white wines, hints of oak, cider apples, rotting berries and barnyard too. Flavour is very sweet, sweeter than any other gueuze I’ve had (not that I’ve had very many), strong notes of rotting fruits and berries, sourish but not astringent. Short sourish-sweet aftertaste. Worth a try, but won’t buy again. |

147 | Vedett | Belgium | Lager | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7 Rerate bottle, bought at Vinmonopolet: With a brisk pour you get a very large and lasting head, and the carbonation is not too much after all. Fairly decent hops place this pils in the "slightly above average" category. I’m upping it 1 point. Original rating: 330 ml bottle, as Vedett Extra Blond, ABV is 5.2%. Courtesy of Cardinal, Stavanger. Also available in Norway in Vinmonopolet stores (bestillingsutvalget). The beer’s website is www.vedett.com . Served in Duvel glass (same brewery). Very pale colour, decent head. Moderately hoppy aroma, notes of cardboard and "dusty attic". Flavour is moderately hoppy - this is an average pils. A bit too carbonated for my taste. |

Another good Trappist! |

149 | Malheur 12 | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 3.9
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 250 ml bottle, bought in Frederikshavn, Denmark. Hazy dark brown colour, large tan head. Pleasant aroma of dark malts, hops, chocolate, oak and bakery. Flavour is heavy dark malts, sweet, oaky and spicy. Hoppy finish. Warming mouthfeel as expected from a 12% ABV beer, there’s a certain "raw" and alcoholic edge (not entirely pleasant) that probably would benefit from a few years in a cellar. Powerful stuff, with a potential for improvement! |

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 330 ml bottle, as St. Idesbald Dubbel. Some say this is the same beer as Duinen Dubbel. ABV was 8%. Bought in Frederikshavn, Denmark. Pours deep copper coloured with floaties, large off-white head. Sweetish malty aroma with caramel and some oak. Flavour is malty sweet and spicy with plenty of caramel, some hops, oak and alcohol in the finish. Moderately warming mouthfeel. A bit too sweet for me. |
