500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, as Mylius-Erichsen Stout Mørketid. ABV is 5%. Black colour, big tan head. Nice roasted aroma with notes of coffee, hints of dark chocolate and leather. Soft mouthfeel, fairly light bodied for a stout, but nice. The flavour has moderate roasty notes, mild coffee, hints of chocolate, not very sweet, a slight fruity acidity in the finish. Very modest hops.

953 Vestfyen Willemoes Porter Denmark Baltic Porter 3.7

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 9.8%. Ingredients include artificial colour (hm ...) E 150 c, liquorice and anti-oxidant E 300. Black colour, big tan head. Moderate aroma of roasted malts, caramel and some fruit. The flavour is fairly sweet with plenty of caramel and liquorice, while the roastiness and hops come through in the finish. Notes of dark dried fruits too. Roasty aftertaste. Overall too much caramel, but a nice Baltic porter all the same.

954 Hornbeer Black Magic Woman Denmark Imperial Stout 4.6

Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9

500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 10%. Pitch black colour, impressive brown head. The aroma has strong notes of peat smoked and birch smoked malts (which indeed are essential ingredients in this beer), also notes of tar, old rope and coffee, hints of dark chocolate. The flavour has loads of smoke, tar and sweet malts, caramel, roasted notes with coffee and dark bitter chocolate. Roasty and hoppy bitterness in the aftertaste. A solid imperial stout.

955 Jefferson Dubl Kloster Abbey Ale Denmark Abbey Dubbel 3.7

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 6.8%. Brown colour, huge off-white head. Malty aroma with notes of brown bread, caramel and slightly stale strawberry jam. Fairly light bodied for its strength. Moderately malty flavour, notes of brown bread and caramel. Not much of a hoppy bite, but definitely drinkable. As far as dubbels go, there are many "real" Belgian specimens that are better, though.

956 Beer Here Mørke Pumpernickel Porter Denmark Porter 4.3

Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. Batch #425. ABV is 7.5%. Pitch black colour, huge brown head. Moderately roasty aroma, notes of mild coffee, chocolate and fennel seeds, possibly other undefined spices too. Rich and creamy mouthfeel. The flavour has notes of pumpernickel bread (no surprise!), fennel seeds, coffee and dark chocolate, hints of liquorice. An impressive, well made and tasty beer, but (if anything) I would perhaps recommend going a bit easier on the fennel seeds.

958 Djævlebryg Gudeløs Denmark Imperial Stout 4.6

Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9

500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 8.9%. Ingredients include 6 kinds of barley malts, roasted barley, 3 kinds of hops, demerara sugar, black syrup and raisin syrup (+ water and yeast, of course). Pitch black colour, huge brown head. Roasty and somewhat sweetish aroma, notes of dark malts, syrup, bakery, coffee and chocolate, hints of liquorice. Sweet and roasty flavour, notes of strong coffee, dark and pale malts (with a good deal of residual sugar) and dark syrup, with a distinct hoppy and roasty bitterness in the aftertaste, hints of English liquorice. Regard it as an atheist product or as a gift of God - this is under any circumstance a mighty powerful beer!

959 Djaevlebryg Pride Of Nekron Denmark Imperial Stout 4.2

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 10.5%. Black colour, big to moderate brown head. Lovely roasty aroma, notes of roasted barley, coffee and dark chocolate, hints of dark syrup and liquorice. The flavour is intensely sweet and roasty, strong notes of dark syrup and brown sugar, dark malts, coffee, raisins and dark chocolate. Warming mouthfeel. Moderately bitter aftertaste. Good, but a bit too far out on the sweet and syrupy side to get a full score.

960 Mikkeller Black Tie Denmark Imperial Stout 4.3

Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. Batch #427. ABV is 11.5%. Pitch black colour, huge chocolate brown head. Strong roasty aroma with notes of coffee and tar, also notes of peaty smoke (from the whisky barrel, obviously - and the smoked malts), hints of sea water, dark dried fruits and oak, some vinous notes too. The flavour is extremely intense, loads of tar, very strong coffee, oak and smoke. The honey is barely noticeable. Quite bitter, with an ashy finish. Not for the faint of heart.

961 Bøgedal Nr. 173 Denmark Strong Ale 3.9

750 ml "champagne" bottle, as Bøgedal No. 173, from Vinmonopolet Valkendorfsgate, Bergen (spesialutvalget). ABV is 6.5%. The cork popped to the ceiling, but the beer did not gush out. Very moderate carbonation in the glass. Very dark brown colour, cloudy, nearly black. Moderate beige head. Very nice aroma of caramel, bakery and spices, hints of liquorice. The flavour is "christmasy" with notes of caramel malts and season’s spices, also notes of chocolate, mild coffee and liquorice. Moderate but noticeable hops. Quite good.

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. "Best before" date: The Day of Judgement! ABV is 10.5%. Deep copper to brown colour, big beige head. Strong sweetish aroma, notes of raisins and dark dried fruits, oak, fortified wine, caramel and brown sugar. The flavour is very sweet and vinous, with basically the same elements as in the aroma. Moderate hops in the finish. Good, but sweet enough to make one small glass enough for one sitting. The 500 ml bottle is for sharing!

963 Midtfyns Chili Tripel Denmark Abbey Tripel 3.4

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

500 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, bestillingsutvalget. ABV is 9.2%. Hazy brownish amber colour, big to moderate white (or slightly off-white) head. Strong sweetish aroma of candy, syrup, Belgian ale yeast and chili, hints of honey. The flavour has sweet notes of malts and Belgian ale yeast, hints of honey and syrup, minimal hops. Not much chili flavour while the beer is in your mouth, but there’s a distinct chili burn in the aftertaste. A bit weird, but well worth sampling.

966 Ribe Jubilæums Ale Denmark Spiced Beer 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Bottle, kindly shared by my beerpal Jan Magnus. ABV is 6.0%. In addition to barley malts and hops it is brewed with rye malts, wormwood, juniper berries, rowan berries and liquorice root. Deep golden colour, moderate white head. Moderate aroma of caramel with some unusual spicy and herbal notes, hints of berries. Fairly dry flavour, moderate notes of spices and rowanberries. Decent beer, but with all these interesting ingredients I kind of expected a stronger herbal "punch" in the flavour.

967 HaandBryggeriet Merry NewYear (2008) Denmark English Barleywine 4.1

500 ml bottle, UK style barleywine, vintage 2008, kindly shared by my beerpal Christian. ABV is 10.6%. Beautiful ruby colour, big off-white to beige head. Strong vinous and oaky aroma, notes of dark dried fruits and caramel. Sweet flavour but not extreme, notes of dark dried fruits and oak again, hoppy bitterness in the finish. A good beer from the (now sadly defunct) Danish HaandBryggeriet.

971 Carlsberg Carls Jul (Christmas Beer) Denmark Vienna / Amber Lager 3.4

972 Carlsberg Carls Lager Denmark Vienna / Amber Lager 3.0

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Bottles, bought in Denmark. Historically interesting recipe, but this is not a beer I'd choose for daily consumption. Rerate: I generally like Münchener dunkels (which is what Carls Lager is supposed to be), but this one is too bland, despite some caramel in aroma and flavour. Would profit on a higher ABV.

973 Carlsberg Carls Påske Denmark Vienna / Amber Lager 3.2

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Bottles, bought in Denmark. An acceptable reddish amber Easter brew, some caramel in aroma and flavour. Rerate: Fairly bland beer compared to the stronger Carlsberg Påskebryg 1847.

974 Carlsberg Crown Denmark Strong Lager 2.7

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6

Bottle, bought in Denmark. "Danish malts, GLUCOSE SYRUP, Tasmanian hops" .... hmmm. Carlsberg’s attempt to make a beer with champagne-like qualities ... hmmm - I’m not a big fan of real champagne (price considered), but I’d definitely prefer real champagne for a celebration, if Carlsberg Crown were the best beer on offer. Fruity but not very strong aroma, bubbly/fizzy fruity flavour, not offensive but far from interesting. Alcohol is well hidden (behind what??). I am not a monarchist, but I think the happy couple deserved something better than this.

975 Carlsberg Light Denmark Reduced Alcohol 1.9

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 4

Typical "light" (which in Denmark and Norway previously always meant "low alcohol") beer. Little more to add. A 2.5% version was made for Norway. Golden colour, moderate head. A very watered down pale lager, but with some malt and very moderate hops in aroma and flavour, not totally undrinkable when you have to drive afterwards.
