Solid hops in the finish. Brilliant stuff. |

930 | Mikkeller / Three Floyds Boogoop | Denmark | American Barleywine | 4.4
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Amber colour, moderate head, slightly off-white. Lovely aroma of fruity and resinous American hops, malts in the background. Excellent and well balanced flavour, distinct American hops throughout, but not too extreme. There is a sufficient malty backbone to support the hops. Not too sweet. Jolly good! |

931 | Amager Drei von Dänen | Denmark | Baltic Porter | 3.8
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Shared bottle at local tasting. Black colour, moderate brown head. Strong roasty aroma, notes of coffee, tar, smoke and old rope. Smoky and tarry flavour, quite dry. Salty finish. A bit too much for me. The cognac barrel aged version was more pleasant to drink. |

933 | De 5 Gaarde Juliane | Denmark | Vienna / Amber Lager | 3.3
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, bought at Superbrugsen, Skødstrup. ABV is 4.9%. Ingredients include "burnt sugar". Amber to copper colour, moderate off-white head. Very moderate aroma, just a hint of caramel. Lagerish flavour, like a Danish Classic with a little extra caramel, but the beer is not very sweet. Quite okay to drink though. |

934 | Braunstein Næsgaarden Økologisk Brown Ale | Denmark | Brown Ale | 2.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 500 ml bottle, bought at Superbrugsen, Skødstrup. The dusty bottles on the shelf testified that this was not the store’s most popular beer. Sampled 06.07.10, bought just a couple days earlier - "best before"-date was 14.06.10. Organic beer, ABV is 6%. Dark brown colour, hazy. Moderate off-white to beige head. Nice aroma of fruity hops, also notes of caramel and nuts. The flavour was fruity and acidic, nearly lemony. Definitely past its prime. |

935 | Vestfyen Malt Øl | Denmark | Reduced Alcohol | 2.9
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 5 330 ml bottle, from Superbrugsen, Skødstrup. ABV is 1.8%. Ingredients include glucose syryp and colour (E 150c). Very dark brown to ruby colour, big and creamy tan head. Sweetish aroma of malts, caramel, brown bread and syrup. The flavour is very malty, very sweet, with loads of caramel and syrup - but amazingly pleasant to drink. Hardly any bitterness. A flavourful beer with minimal alcohol, in the Danish "mørkt hvidtøl" tradition - a nice "change of pace"-beer when you have to drive afterwards. |

Strong aroma of smoked malts, smoked meat, bonfires and tar. Thin and slightly acidic mouthfeel, but refreshing. The flavour is smoked malts from A to B, fairly dry. Moderate hops in the finish. Highly drinkable - an interesting experience. |

937 | Gourmetbryggeriet WitBier | Denmark | Witbier | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, as Gourmetbryggeriet WitBier. ABV is 4.8%. Bought in Denmark. Very pale straw coloured, big white head. Distinct aroma of citrus / lemons, hints of coriander and cloves. Soft mouthfeel. Refreshing flavour, moderately citrussy, distinct notes of coriander, hints of cloves. Moderate hops in the finish. OKish. |

938 | Gourmetbryggeriet Cloudy Wheat | Denmark | Hefeweizen | 3.4
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV is 5.5%. Despite the name, this is one of the least cloudy hefeweizens I have seen, pretty close to a kristallweizen. Pale golden colour, big to moderate white head. Typical hefeweizen aroma of ripe bananas, cloves and bubblegum. The flavour has also notes of banana and cloves, hints of citrus, very moderate hops in the finish. |

939 | Carlsberg Semper Ardens Easter Brew | Denmark | Bock | 3.1
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 660 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV is 6.5%. Allegedly a Carlsberg recipe from 1907. Hops are Spalt and Saaz. Beautiful amber to copper colour, big off-white head with an orangey hue. Flavour of over-boiled vegetables, baby porridge and caramel. The flavour has notes of malts and caramel, but is not too sweet. As the beer warms up a little, a very moderate fruitiness comes through. However, the amount of hops used is far too moderate to make this a really great drinking experience. The beer is drinkable though, but I expect more from a Semper Ardens brew. |

940 | Løkken Witbier | Denmark | Witbier | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV is 4.5%. Cloudy golden colour, big to moderate white head. Moderate wheaty aroma, hints of citrus. The flavour is fairly malty for a wit, with very moderate hops and a hint of citrus, but I don’t think any coriander has been used here. There’s a hint of "traditional homebrew" (maybe a slight infection?) in the finish. Drinkable, but certainly not the best witbier around. |

941 | Djaevlebryg Nekron Stout | Denmark | Stout | 4.1
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 6.5% - unless there is a typo on the rear bottle label (brewery website says 8.5%). Pitch black colour, big brown head. Fine aroma of tar and strong coffee, also hints of smoke, salt water and liquorice. The flavour is smoky and salty with notes of tar and strong bitter coffee. Also bitter hops in the finish. Quite dry. Good stuff, but I’d like a little more sweetness. |

942 | Mikkeller Beer Geek Bacon | Denmark | Smoked Ale | 4.2
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 500 ml unlabelled bottle, a gift from Mikkeller/Nøgne Ø via Cardinal. Black colour, big brown head. Strong roasty and smoky aroma, notes of tar and old rope rather than bacon (well yes, some uncooked bacon too). The flavour is roasty with notes of strong coffee, dark bitter chocolate and tar, also distinct smoky notes, but not quite as extreme as I expected. Hints of liquorice too, not very sweet. Ah, beer - so much more than a breakfast drink! |

943 | Jefferson Bruin Brown Ale | Denmark | Brown Ale | 3.7
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, from Voldy Købmandsgård. Brewed with organic barley malts and oats. ABV is 5.5%. Deep brown colour, big and lasting beige head. Strong aroma of caramel, also hints of brown bread, nuts and over-ripe peaches. The flavour is malty, bready, nutty and mellow, notes of caramel but not too sweet, with very subdued hops that still are noticeable in the aftertaste. Fairly decent beer. |

944 | Randers Classic | Denmark | Vienna / Amber Lager | 3.2
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml bottle, from Superbrugsen, Skødstrup. ABV is 6.0%. Unfiltered and unpasteurised. Hazy deep golden colour, big white head. Aroma of herbal and grassy hops, hints of caramel malts. The flavour is maltier, a little sweeter and a bit more alcoholic than a standard Danish Classic, more like a Maibock. Noticeable hops throughout. Not too bad. |

945 | Refsvindinge HP Bock (Højt Prioriteret) | Denmark | Bock | 3.5
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV is 7.4%. Deep golden colour, big white head. Nice aroma of caramel, toffee and butterscotch, hints of Danish bakery and marmalade. The flavour is fairly sweet and malty with loads of caramel, alcohol is noticeable but not really disturbing. Very moderate (too moderate) hops. |

946 | Løkken Mørk Kutterøl | Denmark | Mild Ale | 3.6
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV is 5.2%. Very dark brown to ruby colour, nearly black. Big to moderate beige head. Fairly nice aroma with a mild roastiness, notes of caramel, mild coffee and some fruit. The flavour has basically the same elements as the aroma, but with less caramel and a very slight acidity. Hints of chocolate too. Dry aftertaste. As a "strong dark mild", this is not too bad! |

947 | Gourmetbryggeriet Blue Mountain Stout | Denmark | Stout | 3.5
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 660 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV is 6.5%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Big beige head. "Dusty" aroma with notes of coffee, hints of chocolate. Moderately roasty flavour with notes of coffee and dark chocolate (which indeed are among the ingredients), not very sweet. The hops are fairly subdued. Light mouthfeel, the alcohol is well hidden. Decent enough to drink, but not the greatest stout I’ve had. |

948 | Gourmetbryggeriet Blanche | Denmark | Witbier | 2.8
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV is 5.0%. Crystal clear extremely pale straw colour, moderate white head. Fairly decent aroma of fruity (yes, apricots) and floral hops. The flavour is clean, crisp and refreshing with a moderate sweetness, but the hops are too moderate. The name "Blanche" makes you expect a witbier / bière blanche, but this is just another pilsener - not a bad one, but far from exciting. |

949 | Baldersbrønde Balder Mørk Ale | Denmark | Brown Ale | 3.2
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV is 4.6%. Clear brown colour, big off-white head. Fairly nice aroma of toffee, caramel and biscuits. The flavour has also toffee and biscuit notes, not very sweet. Minimal hops, not very exciting, even for a brown ale. |

Pleasant aroma of Belgian ale yeast with fruity (citrus) and spicy notes. The flavour is spicy and fairly sweet, alcohol is noticeable, peppery and moderately bitter finish. |
