801 Ørbæk Fionia Abbey Ale Denmark Abbey Dubbel 3.2

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

500 ml bottle, from SuperBest Skødstrup. ABV is 6.8%. Amber to brown colour, fairly pale for a dubbel, moderate off-white head. Spicy and malty sweetish (bordering on sickly) aroma, also notes of caramel and chocolate. The flavour is very sweet, sugary and malty with loads of caramel, hardly any bitterness. Some spicy notes, incl. anise. Unbalanced, too far out on the sweet side, lacks hops and a "fresh" character.

802 Jacobs Julebryg Denmark Bock 3.2

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

330 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 7.5%. Copper colour, large to moderate off-white head. Fruity / citrussy aroma, also notes of caramel and brown sugar. The flavour has moderate notes of citrussy hops on a caramel and brown sugar base. Very moderate bitterness. Not very complex. Clearly drinkable, but not my favourite Christmas beer. Wouldn’t buy again.

500 ml bottle, from Dagli’brugsen Skødstrup. ABV is 5.3%. Black colour, dark brown in the highlights. Large tan head. Pleasant roasty aroma, notes of coffee. The flavour is roasty and quite dry, notes of coffee, hints of liquorice. Fairly light bodied, but nice enough.

804 Krenkerup Påskeøl Denmark Abbey Dubbel 4.0

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

500 ml bottle, from Dagli’brugsen Skødstrup. ABV is 6.5%. Deep reddish brown colour, huge orangey-beige head of good retention. Very nice aroma of spices, Belgian ale yeast, caramel malts and brown kandij sugar. The flavour is moderately malty, not too sweet, with spicy notes, also notes of dark dried fruits and caramel, hints of oak. The mouthfeel could have been fuller, but this is still a remarkably drinkable beer.

805 Beer Here Ammestout Denmark Stout 3.9

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 6.5%. Black colour, large brown head. Roasty aroma, strong notes of coffee, hints of dark chocolate. The flavour is roasty and medium sweet, strong notes of coffee again. A nice stout, but it would be probably be tasty even without the coffee, which I assume the nursing mother and her baby wouldn’t miss before they go to sleep.

806 Mikkeller Koppi Tomahawk x Guji Natural Coffee IPA Denmark American Black Ale 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

330 ml bottle, Cardinal & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.9%. Amber colour, slightly hazy. Large off-white head. The aroma has strong notes of coffee and powerful Tomahawk hops, an unusual combination. The flavour has a considerable sweetness, followed up by strong notes of coffee and resinous and fruity hops. The combination feels kind of weird, but on the other hand: Why not?

807 Wiibroes Porter Imperial Stout Denmark Baltic Porter 4.4

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9

At last - the elusive Wiibroe Porter Imperial Stout is mine. 330 ml bottle, at Plan B, Copenhagen. Black colour, moderate creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel, coffee, chocolate and liquorice, hints of oak and dark dried fruits. Roasty flavour, dark malts and coffee, hints of liquorice and dark chocolate. Lovely!

808 Det Lille Bryggeri Lakrids Porter Denmark Porter 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

500 ml bottle, from Høkeren, Copenhagen. Batch #RØ156. Unfiltered and unpasteurised. ABV is 5.7%. The cap was not tight enough for my flight from Copenhagen to Stavanger, and about 1/4 of the beer leaked out in my suitcase. Still plenty of carbonation left in the bottle. Murky / opaque very dark brown colour, nearly black. Moderate tan head. Distinct roasty aroma with strong notes of coffee, also dark chocolate and liquorice, hints of wood and smoke. Medium dry flavour, again with strong notes of coffee, also liquorice, wood and dark bitter chocolate. Also a hoppy bitterness in the finish. Fairly decent beer.

809 Croocked Moon Lawnmower Denmark Lager 3.4

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

On tap at Copenhagen Beer Festival. Pale yellow colour. Distinct aroma of American hops. Very dry and light bodied. The hopping may not be extreme per se, but with such a light body, it seems pretty extreme. A "lawnmower beer" should be light bodied, but this one would probably be more refreshing with a more subtle hopping. Still, way above the tasteless swill most people choose as "lawnmover beers".

810 København Armstrong Denmark IPA 3.6

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

On tap at Copenhagen Beer Festival. Deep golden colour. Aroma more of caramel and toffee than hops, not unpleasant though - just a bit unexpected in an IPA. However, there are more hops in the flavour, which is quite nice. Fruity notes, hints of apricots, ending in a decent bitterness. Very drinkable.

811 Fanø Lynghvede Denmark Spiced Beer 3.4

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

At Copenhagen Beer Festival. Unfiltered. Brewed with heather flowers, lavender and chamomile flowers. Hazy yellow colour. Moderate aroma of said flowers/herbs. The flavour is very mild, with only a moderate presence of the above. I think I would have skipped the lavender, used more heather, and added a little more hops. Still, it is always nice when brewers dare to use some of the many fine wild growing herbs we have in Scandinavia.

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

At Copenhagen Beer Festival. Golden colour, slightly hazy. Hoppy and fruity aroma. The flavour has plenty of zesty and fruity hops, but not too much. Some herbal and piney notes too. Very good.

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

At Copenhagen Beer Festival. Black colour, tan head. Aroma of chocolate and mild coffee. Smooth and medium sweet flavour, not cloying, notes of mild coffee again. Quite drinkable and decent.

814 Fanø Julebryg Denmark Stout 4.0

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

At Copenhagen Beer Festival. ABV was listed as 7.5%. Dark brown colour. Aroma and flavour of coffee, vanilla and cinnamon, well balanced. Very enjoyable - a beer I’d be happy to drink at the Yuletide. Well, at any time of the year, actually.

815 Svaneke Double Brown Ale Denmark Brown Ale 3.2

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

500 ml bottle, as Svaneke Double Brown Ale, from Dagli’brugsen Skødstrup. ABV is 5.7%. Unfiltered. Hazy brown colour, moderate head of good retention. Aroma of brown malts and caramel, also some fruity notes. The flavour is first fruity and refreshing, followed by distinct notes of brown and lightly roasted malts, some caramel. Moderately bitter aftertaste. Could have been better, could have been worse.

816 Øl-laboratoriet Summit Single Hop IPA Denmark IPA 3.8

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

At Copenhagen Beer Festival. Hazy deep golden to amber colour. Summit hops were a new aquaintance for me, and they are clearly present in both aroma and flavour of this brew. Fruity (grapefruit, peaches) and resinous notes, with a bitter and moderately sharp finish. IBU was said to be 111, but the beer felt not that extreme. Very drinkable, and my interest in trying Summit hops in homebrew has increased.

817 Øl-laboratoriet Original Old Porter Denmark Porter 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

At Copenhagen Beer Festival. Dark brown colour, moderate tan head. This is supposed to a classical English brown porter. Moderate roasty aroma, notes of coffee, hints of liquorice and smoke. The fairly dry flavour has also notes of mild coffee, and hints of liquorice, wood and smoke.

818 Øl-laboratoriet Hophead IPA Denmark Imperial IPA 3.9

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

At Copenhagen Beer Festival. Hazy amber colour. Nice aroma of American hops. The flavour is allegedly "vehemently hopped" with Columbus, Centennial and and Simcoe. The beer is indeed well hopped, but not "vehemently". Seems quite well balanced to me, and is very drinkable.

819 To Øl First Frontier Denmark IPA 4.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9

At Copenhagen Beer Festival. Hazy deep golden colour. Strong and pleasant aroma of American hops (Warrior, Simcoe and Centennial), fruity and piney notes. The flavour is also dominated by said fruity hops, but is not too extreme. Noticeable malts with a little caramel balance the flavour nicely. Very good!

At Copenhagen Beer Festival. Black colour, tan head. Malty and moderately roasty aroma, with notes of cassanade sugar, caramel and and hints of smoke. Also some hoppy notes. The flavour has also moderate roasty notes, chocolate and some caramel, hints of wood and smoke. Moderate but noticeable hops. Very nice!

821 Svaneke Jule Spektakel Denmark Belgian Strong Ale 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

At Copenhagen Beer Festival. After reading the commercial description, my expectations were high, but the beer did not quite live up to them. Reddish brown colur, but paler than expected. Moderate malty aroma, some caramel. Did not get much of the promised complexity. The flavour has some malts and caramel, a little fruit, a little spiciness - but too little of everything. Drinkable of course, but I want something better than this for the Yuletide.

822 Søgaard Gækkebryg Denmark American Pale Ale 3.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

On tap at Copenhagen Beer Festival. Served too warm, but I should not complain, as it was a free sample. Deep golden colour, huge white head. Floral and mild hops in both aroma and flavour. Drinkable, but not remarkable.

824 Det Lille Bryggeri Humlemord High and Low Denmark IPA 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

330 ml bottle, from Ølbutikken (or was it Høkeren?), Copenhagen. ABV is 3,6, IBU 101, OG 1038, FG 1010. Hops are Magnum, Hersbrücker, Cascade and Willamette. Some sediment in the bottle. Hazy golden colour, large white head. Strong sweetish aroma of fruity (tropical fruits incl. passion fruit), floral and grassy hops. Light bodied and refreshing. The flavour is a hoppy explosion from start to finish, with fruity (esp. grapefruity) notes. Very bitter (too bitter?) aftertaste, nearly medicinal.
