51 Boon Framboise Belgium Fruit Lambic 4.2

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

Bottle, at Plan B, Copenhagen. Fizzy, clear red colour, initially large head. Aroma is ripe raspberries (no surprise), "over-ripe" perhaps. Fruit garden notes, smells like an "Indian summer" day. Also notes of blackberries. Flavour is again raspberries, not too sour, well balanced, vinous qualities. A supreme fruit lambic.

54 Gouden Carolus Noel Belgium Belgian Strong Ale 3.9

Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

750 ml bottle, corked "champagne" style. ABV is 10.5%. Deep chestnut colour, large light tan head, nice lacing. Malty sweet and spicy aroma - aniseed, cardamom, ginger, nutmeg, cloves(?) Notes of oak and leather too. Flavour is also dominantly malty sweet (too sweet) with caramel and spices, a certain hoppy bite too. Alcohol is evident, but not overwhelming. A fairly complex beer, but too much malty sweetness keeps me from giving it a top rating.

55 Gouden Carolus Cuvee Van De Keizer Blauw/Blue Belgium Belgian Strong Ale 4.1

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Bottle, RBESG 2005 Grand Tasting. Golden brown colour. Vinous aroma, oaky and sherry notes. Oaky flavour, brandy notes. Could have been even more complex, though. Still, this is another fine and strong Belgian ale.

56 St. Feuillien Triple Belgium Abbey Tripel 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

750 ml bottle, corked champagne-style. Bought in Denmark. Large white head. Beer is clear (hazy when I poured the sediment in) pale golden. Very nice yeasty aroma with notes of fruits, spices, horse stable and some oak. Flavour is initially sweet, spicy and yeasty with decent hops. Light bodied for an 8.5% ABV beer, alcohol is well hidden. Aftertaste is dry with a hoppy and spicy bitterness. A decent triple this one.

57 St. Feuillien Påskeøl (Easter Beer) Belgium Abbey Dubbel 4.0

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

This Easter beer seems to be brewed specially for the Danish market, where specific "Easter" beers (normally less interesting than this one) have more of a tradition than in Belgium. It's kind of a hybrid between the the Brune and the Blonde, leaning more heavily on the brown side. 750 ml bottle, corked champagne-style. Bought in Denmark. Very large and lasting cream-coloured head, beer is hazy brown with a reddish hue. Very strong and "raw" aroma of barnyard, ensilage, ammonia, leather and fermenting fruits, mellows gradually in the glass. Flavour is a bit smoother and mellower than the aroma - chocolate sweetness, some oak and spices, moderate but decent hops. Mouthfeel becomes strangely metallic and watery (for a 7.5% beer, that is) in the finish. Some liquorice in the aftertaste. An interesting beer after all.

58 Urthel Novicius Vertus Belgium Belgian Ale 2.7

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

Bottle, at Den Tatoverede Enke, Copenhagen. Sweet wort aroma, verging on "sickly". Malty sweet flavour too, not much to make me happy here. A cute label and decorated original glass did not help.

59 La Binchoise Blonde Tradition Belgium Belgian Ale 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

330 ml bottle. Pale straw coloured, slightly hazy, very large head. Interesting and complex yeasty, flowery and spicy aroma, some citrus and oak too. Flavour is zesty and spritzy with spices and decent hops, not too sweet. A very enjoyable Belgian blonde!

60 3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze Belgium Gueuze 4.1

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9

Rerate, 375 ml "champagne" bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 6%. Unfiltered, bottled 10/03/2008. Pours very fizzy. Cloudy yellow colour, big white head. Lovely farmhouse aroma, notes of fermenting fruits and spices. The flavour is very sour and tart with notes of lemons and Bramley apples, hints of spices, some hops in the atertaste. Original rating: Sampled bottle, RBNAG 2007 in Grimstad, as 3 Fonteinen Beersel Oude Geuze 1999. Golden colour, large head. Funky aroma / mold, horseblanket. Nice sour flavour with oaky and farmhouse notes.

62 Blanche de Namur Belgium Witbier 4.0

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Draught in Aarhus, Denmark. Pale golden milky colour, low head. Typical witbier aroma and flavour of orange peel and coriander, but there’s also a sufficient base of wheat malts and hops to support it. Well balanced, smooth and very pleasant and refreshing to drink. Not a beer that pops up and says BOOH! - but a very nice one all the same.

Bottle, at Den Tatoverede Enke, Copenhagen. Strong fruity aroma with notes of oak, farmhouse, caramel and spices. Sourish flavour, some oak and spices. Not the best gueuze I’ve had.

67 Watou Tripel Belgium Abbey Tripel 4.2

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

750 ml silk-print corked (champagne style) brown bottle, bought in Denmark. Golden colour, slightly hazy, pours with an enormous, fluffy and lingering white head. Very nice aroma of yeast, oak, brown candy sugar, horse stable and cigars. Slightly spicy and peppery flavour with tolerable maltiness and hops, and a slight alcoholic bite. Aftertaste is okay, but does not last "forever". Not a particularly complex flavour, but a good beer all the same.

68 St. Bernardus Prior 8 Belgium Abbey Dubbel 4.1

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

750 ml corked (champagne style) brown silk print bottle, bought in Denmark. Brown colour with a slight haziness, pours with a large fluffy off-white head. Very nice aroma of oak, leather, yeast, brown sugar, dried fruits and spices, hints of barnyard. Flavour has plenty of brown sugar, malts, oak and figs, hints of sour berries. Some spices and a certain alcoholic bite in the finish. I had to struggle to finish the big bottle by myself, which means that the brown sugar sweetness combined with 8% ABV becomes a little too much in the end. The big bottles are for sharing! Still - this is another solid abbey beer.

69 Delirium Tremens Belgium Belgian Strong Ale 3.7

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

330 ml painted lightproof bottle, ABV 9.0%. Large head, surprisingly pale golden colour, slightly cloudy when yeast is poured. Excellent aroma, red fruits, barnyard and yeast, some oak. Flavour is reasonably malty, quite yeasty. Alcoholic warmth, relatively light bodied despite its strength. Aftertaste is a bit too sweet IMO. Overall quality does not quite live up to the beer's gimmicky name and bottle.

70 Leffe Vieille Cuvee Belgium Belgian Strong Ale 4.1

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

(33 cl bottle, bought in Denmark). Deep golden brown colour, no haziness, large head. Aroma is not very strong, but pleasant - yeasty and fruity (canned plums), some spices and herbs too. Full bodied sweet flavour, still quite smooth. Brown candy sugar, Christmas fruit cake spices and herbs prevail. Some alcoholic warmth, but not dominant. A great sipping beer!

71 Maredsous 10 Belgium Abbey Tripel 4.2

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

(33 cl bottle, now available in Norway). Deep golden to amber colour, large head. Very nice aroma of dried and ripe fresh fruits and herbs, yeast, malts, oak and pipe tobacco. Flavour is spicy with an alcoholic warmth (no surprise at 10% ABV), elements of dried fruits, medicinal herbs and brown candy sugar. Herbal aftertaste. A very good beer that packs a real punch.

72 Duvel Belgium Belgian Strong Ale 4.3

Like most belgian ales more heavily carbonated than I appreciate, otherwise this is an excellent beer! Dangerously drinkable - hence the name.

73 Chimay Grande Réserve (Blue) Belgium Belgian Strong Ale 4.7

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 10 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 10 | Overall: 9

An outstanding beer, very close to "perfect". I agree with all the positive things said by other reviewers, and has little more to add. The spicy, oaky complexity of the aroma and flavour is "out of this world". Wonderful, lingering aftertaste. Alcohol is well hidden. Simply exceptional!

74 Chimay Cinq Cents (White) Belgium Abbey Tripel 4.2

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

Spicy and peppery are the key words here. An interesting brew, something quite out of the ordinary - but given the choice, I would most definitely still prefer the Chimay Blue.
