Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8 Vintage 2010, shared bottle at local tasting. ABV is 13%. Black colour, hardly any head. Intense aroma of concentrated malts and fusel alcohols, vanilla and bourbon. The fusel brings the aroma score down. Intense and complex flavour, much better than the aroma, loads of vanilla, chocolate, roasted malts and bourbon, sweet but not too much. |

7140 | Cigar City Or Black Ale | United States | Imperial Stout | 4.1
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 355 ml bottle, from Ølbutikken (or possibly Høkeren), Copenhagen. ABV is 11.2%. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Compared to CC Either, the aroma is very moderate: Dusty notes up front, followed by notes of mild coffee, hints of dark chocolate and wood. Warming mouthfeel. In the flavour, wood is up front, followed by malts, molasses, chocolate and honey. Distinct resinous hops in the finish. Good stuff, but Either is a tad better. |

7141 | Goose Island Pepe Nero | United States | Saison | 3.4
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 355 ml bottle, from Ølkonsortiet, Aalborg. ABV is 6%. Dark brown colour, nearly black. Huge and lasting beige head. Pleasant "Belgian" ale aroma with spicy / peppery and fruity notes. Hints of coriander, banana, citrus and cloves. The flavour is citrussy, possibly a bit more sour than intended? (slight infection??), moderately spicy / peppery, just a hint of dark malts and coffee. Okay, but not as great as I hoped. Won’t buy again. |

Reddish brown colour, large off-white head. Nice and strong aroma of Amarillo hops, notes of spruce, orange marmalade and caramel. Well hopped flavour throughout (spruce / pine and grapefruit), on a fairly malty caramel background, nicely balanced. Moreish. A beer that easily could become one of my regulars, if it were available in Norway. |

7146 | Jolly Pumpkin Madrugada Obscura | United States | Stout | 2.4
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 4 750 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV 8.1%. Blend 4, bottled 20. Jan. 2011. My bottle was a big time gusher, half of the content came out of the bottle by its own will. I know Jolly Pumpkin have wild yeast in all their beers, but this one was too wild. Pitch black colour, foamy tan head. Strong aroma of wild yeast / farmhouse, vinegar and roasted malts, notes of dark chocolate and coffee. The flavour is medium sour and vinegary, does not blend in well at all with the roasty notes of a stout. Clearly infected. |

7147 | Jolly Pumpkin / Nøgne Ø / Stone Collababeire Special Holiday Ale | United States | Spiced Beer | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 750 ml bottle, blend 4, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9%. Cloudy dark brown colour, moderate beige head. Some sediment in the bottle, you’re in for floaties if you pour too vigorously in the end. Strong sourish and vinous aroma, with notes of Flemish red ales and red wine vinegar. Sour flavour with notes of oak, red wine vinegar, herbs and spices, noticeable hops in the finish. Quite interesting, but requires that you’re into the sour stuff. |
