Lots of fruit, pine needles and resin in the slightly sweet flavour too. Bitter finish, very bitter aftertaste.

Medium sweet and smooth flavour, again with moderate roasty notes of coffee and chocolate, hints of caramel, vanilla and sweet liquorice. Very nice to drink.

Strong aroma of piney hops, hints of grapefruit, spruce and mint. The flavour is mid between dry and sweet, notes of sweet grapefruit, pine needles and resin, a hint of mint. Fairly bitter finish.

Shared 355 ml bottle at local tasting ABV is 4.5%. Golden colour, moderate white head. Weak aroma, only a hint of ginger. More distinct ginger in the flavour, but not overpowering. A slight fruity acidity in the otherwise uninteresting pale ale base. Thin mouthfeel.

650 ml bottle, shared by Ole Anders. Black colour, moderate to low beige head. Strong aroma of smoked meat and Østbye’s ski wax (pre-WW II). Plenty of smoke in the flavour too, accompanied by moderate roasty notes. Too much smoke for my taste.

750 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.4%. Hazy brown colour, moderate but lasting off-white head. Very nice aroma of fruity and piney American hops, some sweetish malts in the background. The flavour is dangerously drinkable and even refreshing for a beer of this strength, some sweetness but no too much. And of course large amounts of American hops, fruity first, with a massive resinous bitterness in the finish.

Sample on tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Served too cold. Black colour, beige head. Moderate aroma of roasted malts and dust. Roasty flavour, notes of liquorice and coffee, medium sweet.

On tap at Cardinal’s big Brewers’ Night. Golden colour, moderate white head. Lovely aroma of tropical fruits and citrus. Lovely hops in the flavour too, but the malty base is a tad too sweet for my taste, with the typical American crystal malts / orange marmalade character. Still a fine beer, which I’d be happy to sample again.

473 ml can, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 8.2%. Hazy golden to orange colour, small white head. Aroma of fresh and mixed citrus fruits, also some stale orange marmalade in the background. The flavour is sweet, fruity, alcoholic, unrefined, very bitter and unbalanced. Still not undrinkable.

650 ml bottle, from the Norwegian importer. ABV is 6.5%. Very dark brown colour, moderate beige head. Sourish malty aroma, hints of bourbon, oak and rye bread. Medium sour and malty flavour - and that’s about it, very little here that invites you to take another sip. Could not possibly finish a whole bottle on my own.

750 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.6%. Orange to amber colour, huge off-white head. Distinct aroma of rye whiskey oak barrel, hints of caramel and dark dried fruits. The flavour has a slight malty sweetness, again followed by notes of rye whiskey or bourbon oak barrel, caramel and brown sugar, dark dried fruits and mild spices. Moderate hops. Overcarbonated, fizzy mouthfeel.

Medium dry flavour, distinct notes of said smoked ingredients. Hints of bourbon barrel in the finish. Not really my cup of tea, but drinkable.

RBESG 2016 in Barcelona. Shared can at Rosses i Torrades. Very dark brown colour. Roasty aroma and flavour, medium dry, well hopped. An average brown ale.

Cask half pint at JDW, Victoria Station, London. ABV was 5.0%. Brewed at Shepherd Neame. Dark amber to brown colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma and flavour of toffee and caramel, but the beer is not very sweet. Very moderate bitterness, a bit disappointing for an "American" guest brew.

Refreshing flavour, medium dry, notes of herbs and spices, some citrus, not overly bitter for an IPA.
