Cask (hooray!), gravity dispense, at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Brown colour, slightly hazy, small head. Decent natural carbonation. Malty aroma, a little fruit and yeast. The flavour is also malty but fairly dry, notes of yeast and earthy hops. Will probably be in even better nick a day later.

500 ml bottle, from Ales by Mail, ABV is 5.5%, 77 IBU. Malts are pale, caramalt and Vienna, hops are Columbus, Bramling Cross, First Gold and Galaxy. Golden colour, slightly hazy. Moderate white head. Pleasant hoppy aroma, notes of tropical fruits and citrus, hints of pine. The malty base is slightly sweet, but this is first and foremost a hopdriven ale, with grapefruit, pine needles and resin, also hints of tropical fruits, and a solid bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. This is an IPA in my book.

500 ml bottle, from Ales By Mail. ABV is 7%, IBU 52. Chestnut to mahogany colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma of ripe red and dark fruits, hints of rye bread and bitter orange marmalade, also lightly roast malts. The flavour has moderately roast malts, mild coffee, rye bread and earthy and orangey hops. Reasonably good beer.

Shared 500 ml bottle at local tasting. ABV is 6%. Brown colour, off-white head. Nice malty aroma, notes of caramel and roast nuts. Malty flavour, moderately sweet, medium roast malts and roast nuts, some caramel.

Aroma of fruity and piney American hops, some catty hints, also notes of stale orange marmalade. Slightly dry flavour, some malts, grapefruity and some stale and "dusty" notes, solid bittering hops. A half-decent session IPA.

Shared 500 ml bottle at Tau Slipp. ABV is 4%. Golden colour, white head. Moderate aroma, a hint of citrus and cornflakes. Light bodied and refreshing, but a bit boring. Hints of citrus, cornflakes and grain. Allendale can do better than this.

500 ml bottle, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4%. Malts are pale, Vienna and Munich, hops are Columbus, Cascade and Citra. IBU is 45. Golden colour. Gusher bottle, moderate to small white head. Moderate aroma of grain, malts, bread and earthy hops. The flavour is fairly dry, with distinct earthy and grapefruity hops throughout.

500 ml bottle, as Allendale Wagtail English Bitter, from Ales by Mail. ABV is 3.8%, IBU 33. Hops are Target, Fuggles and Goldings. Malts are pale, amber and dark crystal. Deep golden colour, a slight haze in the finish. Moderate to low white head. Aroma of malts, dried fruits and marmalade. The flavour is moderately malty and fairly fruity, hints of caramelized orange marmalade, but not really sweet. Moderate hops in the finish.

On tap at Cardinal Pub, Stavanger. Opaque pale yellow colour, white head. Aroma of pineapple, lychee and other tropical fruits, hints of spruce and pine. Flavour of citrus and tropical fruits, hints of sprucetips. I doubt if Zizi Jeanmaire was an avid beer drinker, but if she were, I bet she would like this one.

440 ml can, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.0%. Cloudy pale yellow colour, large white head. Pleasant aroma of spruce, citrus and tropical fruits. The flavour is not too sweet, but the beer has still a decent body for its ABV. Citric flavour with tropical fruits and sprucetips in the background. Moderate to low bitterness, but very refreshing and easy drinking.

440 ml can, as Pomona Island Phaedra Pale, from Vinmonopolet (probably Nettbutikken). ABV is 5.3%. Hazy yellow colour, large white head. Pleasant aroma of tropical fruits and citrus. Refreshing flavour, citrus and tropical fruits again, but not too sweet. Hints of sprucetips. Low bitterness. Fairly light bodied.

500 ml bottle, ABV 4.0%, from Joker Vatlandsvåg. Also sampled on numerous occasions previously. I still think this "beer" should be unrateable, but apparently it is. Best served over ice, this alcoholic soda has a nice ginger flavour and "burn" throughout. Golden colour, pours sparkling with a large white head. Sugar, fruit soda esters and ginger - a lot of it. A nice drink when I want something else than a beer.

Aroma of pale and biscuit malts, canned yellow plums and apricots, and spicy bière de garde yeast. Spicy and peppery flavour, medium dry, distinct herbal hops, hints of stewed plums.

Pleasant, interesting and complex aroma: notes of brettanomyces / farmhouse, dry white wine, mild spices, vanilla, hints of yellow plums and tropical fruits. Crisp and dry flavour, oak, vanilla, oaked and dry white wine, a slight acidity, mild spices, moderate but noticeable bittering hops.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 12.0%. Pitch black colour, moderate brown head. Aroma of roast malts, chocolate, caramel and vanilla. The flavour is sweet, but not cloying, with the same elements as the aroma. Low bitterness.

The flavour is not too sweet, and is very well balanced throughout, with decent hops. Also notes of chocolate, prunes and mild coffee. A hint of liquorice. Remarkably good.

Aroma of dark dried fruits, particularly prunes and raisins, also hints of molasses and brown sugar. Very fruity flavour, notes of apricot and raisins, a moderate acidity, not too sweet, moderate hops. Unusual and nice to drink.

500 ml can, from Seven Cellars. ABV is 6.2%. Cloudy pale yellow colour, large white head. Aroma of citrus zest and yuzu juice, notes of spruce too. "Spritzy", citric and slightly peppery mouthfeel. The flavour is very fruity and hoppy but not too sweet, with the same elements as the aroma. Low bitterness. Refreshing and very enjoyable.
