Nice malty aroma, with a moderate roastiness, notes of mild coffee and a touch of wood and ashes. The flavour is malty and sweet, with more caramel than roastiness, minimal hops. Not your typical stout, but nice enough.

500 ml bottle, at Olympen, Oslo. ABV 5.2%. Unfiltered and unpasteurised. Brewed with Nelson Sauvin hops. Slightly hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Nice fruity aroma of Nelson Sauvin hops, notes of white grapes. Distinct hoppy flavour with a solid bitterness, but fairly light bodied. Very good.

The flavour is rather sweet, fruity and grassy, with a moderate bitterness in the finish. Lagerish mouthfeel. Drinkable, but did not blow my socks off.

550 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. 2009 brew, BB June 2012. ABV is 9%. Copper to chestnut coloured beer, large off-white head. Strong sweetish malty and vinous aroma, notes of raisins, caramel and oak. The flavour is also malty, oaky and vinous, with notes of old sherry, treacle and raisins, tolerable hops in the finish. Harmonious, elegant and very enjoyable.

440 ml nitro can with widget, from Rúsan, Tórshavn. ABV is 5%. Deep golden to amber colour, typical nitrogen pour, moderate creamy white head. Aroma of caramel, butterscotch and dark berries. Smooth and creamy nitro mouthfeel. The flavour has again notes of caramel, butterscotch and dark berries, bland in the middle, moderate bitterness in the finish. Not great, but better than I feared.

500 ml bottle, from SuperBest Hjørring. ABV is 5.6%. Deep golden colour, moderate white head. Moderate but nice aroma of fruity hops, hints of orange marmalade, also notes of caramel and toffee. The flavour is medium sweet, notes of caramel and bitter orange marmalade again, plenty of fruity and piney hops, ending in a solid bitterness which is surprisingly sharp and distinct for a Welsh ale.

330 ml bottle, from Ales By Mail. ABV is 5.8%. Hop is Target. Black colour, moderate tan head. Aroma of roast malts, coffee, exotic woodwork, dark chocolate. The flavour is mid between dry and sweet, with distinct roast malts, strong coffee and dark bitter chocolate, also distinct bittering hops.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Hazy deep golden to orange colour, low white head. Lovely and intense aroma of tropical fruits, also some citrus. The flavour is mid between sweet and dry, tropical fruits and citrus again, pine needles and resin in the medium bitter finish.

500 ml bottle, as Butcombe Original Beer, bought in Jersey..ABV is 4.5%.Beautiful clear amber colour, moderate to small head, slightly off-white. Malty and grainy aroma, hints of toffee. The flavour is also malty and grainy with a hint of caramel, but not sweet. Moderate earthy and "dusty" hops. Okay, but not remarkable. Cask pint at The Post Horn, St. Helier. ABV 4.0%. Deep copper colour, off-white head. Malty aroma, a hint of malt vinegar. Malty flavour, slightly sweet, again with a hint of malt vinegar. Undistinctive.

Thin and watery mouthfeel. The very moderate flavour is quite dry, with notes of oxidised cider apples and sulphites.

Only the faintest haziness, far from "cloudy". Aroma of sour and bittersweet cider apples. The flavour is more sweet than dry, but still rather crisp. Very moderate tannins. Pleasant to drink.

Nutty notes, a hint of tingling fruit and toffee. Very moderate hops. Smooth to drink. Shared 500 ml clear bottle at local tasting, from a Tesco store in Gloucester. ABV is 4.3%. Copper colour, low hite head. Weak aroma, a little caramel and nuts. Nutty flavour, medium dry, tolerable hops, not exciting but easy drinking.
