4751 | Slottskallans Nisse | Sweden | Spiced Beer | 3.5
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, 2009, bought at Systembolaget. ABV is 5.3%. Copper colour, big to moderate off-white head. Sweetish aroma of oranges and spices (cinnamon, ginger and cloves). The flavour is not as sweet as the aroma made me fear, there is some sweetness but it is not overdone. Notes of said spices again, noticeable hops in the finish . The beer is fairly light bodied and drinkable, not too bad. |

Very nice fruity aroma (ripe berries), also strong notes of bakery and lightly toasted malts. The flavour is more roasty than the colour and aroma made me expect, notes of burnt breadcrumbs. Not entirely pleasant. |

4753 | Slottskällans Black Rocket Porter | Sweden | Porter | 4.3
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 330 ml bottle, from Systembolaget. ABV is 5.5%. Black colour, big brown head. Lovely aroma of roasted malts, dark bitter chocolate and coffee, hints of English liquorice. The flavour is roasty with notes of coffee, hints of liquorice, dark chocolate and burnt toast. Some fruity notes in the background. Distinct bitter finish, both from the hops and the roasted malts. |

4754 | Mariestads Porter | Sweden | Porter | 3.6
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Sampled bottle, RBNAG 2007 in Grimstad. Vintage 2007, ABV was 5.9%. Dark reddish brown colour, nearly black. Moderately malty aroma with mild roasty notes, hints of liquorice. Is this really a top fermented porter, or is it bottom fermented (technically more of a "Baltic" porter)? Very little fruitiness in the flavour. Malty with loads of caramel, some roasty bitterness, hints of liquorice. |

4762 | BFM Abbaye de Saint Bon-Chien 2008 | Switzerland | Wild Ale | 4.0
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9 750 ml bottle, 2008 vintage (assemblage January 2009), bought at Systembolaget, Sweden. Bottle No. 00276. ABV is 11.0%. Sediment in the bottle. Hazy orange-brown colour, moderate to low off-white head. Some of the haziness might be chill haze, I started drinking it too cold. Very nice sourish-fruity aroma with a distinct brettanomyces character. The flavour is distinctly sour but not extreme, very fruity and tart (notes of sour cherries and Bramley apples), hints of oak, with just the right hoppy bitterness in the dry finish. The alcohol is well hidden - if someone had told me that this was a 6% beer, I would gladly believe it. A very fine beer, but it requires that you are into the sour stuff (a "sourhead") to really appreciate it. |

4764 | Balik Beer | Switzerland | Baltic Porter | 4.1
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Allegedly brewed according to an old Russian porter recipe, with kvas/kwas as one of the ingredients! Contract brewed by Brauerei Locher "im Auftrag der BALIK Räucherei im Toggenberg AG", website www.balik.com . The Räucherei even supplied the smoked salmon I had with this beer (330 ml bottle) at the Seafood Bar at Stansted Airport, London (Norwegian salmon, smoked in Switzerland, sold in England, eaten by a Norwegian - a well travelled fish!) According to the BALIK website the beer should be served cool at 12 degrees C, but I got it served fridge cold. While the coldness must have taken away some of the flavour details, it probably made the beer more drinkable with seafood, taking the edge off the heavy sweetness. The beer has a brown colour with a slight haziness, low head. Aroma and flavour are more like a port wine than a "normal" beer. Very sweet, warming mouthfeel (no surprise at 11% ABV!), spicy, a bit alcoholic, but interesting. Decent hops in the finish. |

4765 | BFM Abbaye de Saint Bon-Chien (2012) | Switzerland | Wild Ale | 2.8
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 750 ml green bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 11%. Beautiful reddish brown colour, small off-white head. Strong aroma of red wine vinegar and oak. Sweet and sour flavour, loads of red wine vinegar, also oak. Too sweet and sour for me. Not my cup of tea at all. Waste of money. |

4767 | BFM √225 Saison | Switzerland | Saison | 3.7
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Rerate, 750 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6%, vintage 2016. Cloudy golden colour, large white head. Fresh aroma of lemons and brettanomyces. Lemony sour flavour, also "spicy" brettanomyces notes. I'm upping it a point or two. Original rating: Sample from bottle at Edle Dråper-messen, Stavanger. Pale straw colour, hazy. Lemony aroma and flavour, more sour than any other saison I’ve had. Refreshing? Oh yes. A masterpiece? Hardly ... Worth spending a fair amount of money to buy a 750 ml bottle? It’s up to you, but I doubt I will. |

Very brown colour, nearly black (= fairly pale for an imperial stout), huge beige head. Roasty aroma, roast malts, roast pepper, coffee, hints of vanilla and chocolate. Smooth and fairly sweet flavour, plenty of chocolate / cocoa, mild sweetened coffee, hints of molasses, medium bitter hops in the finish. Quite enjoyable. |

4774 | Chang Beer | Thailand | Pale Lager | 2.6
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 This beer seems to need a split in the BeerPal database - my 330 ml bottle (in France), simply named "Chang Beer", was a typical standard pale lager at 5.0% ABV, and can’t possibly be "the same beer" as a 6.4% "strong lager"??!! Anyhow, my beer pours with a golden colour and a large head. "Neutral" lager flavour, not offensive, moderate sweetness. Okay with a spicy Thai meal. |

4775 | Chang Beer Light | Thailand | Light / Lite Lager | 1.8
Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 330 ml bottle, simply as Chang Beer 4.2%, now in Norwegian grocery stores. Extremely pale yellow colour, nearly colourless. Moderate to low white head. Aroma of baby porridge and grass. The flavour has some sweetish pilsener malts and hints of citrus, making the beer not undrinkable - but this is certainly not something to seek out. |
