426 | Bavik Pilaarbijter Blonde | Belgium | Abbey Tripel | 3.4
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 330 ml bottle, thanks to Beer2000. ABV is 7.5%. BB 07/12/09. The glass is first filled by a huge foamy white head, then a cloudy brownish golden beer slowly emerges. Strong sweetish aroma of Belgian ale yeast, over-ripe and rotting berries, artificial candy and fermenting fruits, verging on "sickly". The flavour is sweet (maybe too sweet), yeasty and spicy, some notes of decaying fruits again. A moderate spicy bitterness in the finish. |

Murky brown colour, big to moderate off-white head. Strong aroma of marmalade, caramel, alcohol and over-ripe fruits and berries. The flavour is rich and malty, also notes of caramel and ripe dark fruits, hints of oak, spices and alcohol. A moderate hoppy and spicy bitterness in the finish. Nice. |

428 | 3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze Vintage (2002-) | Belgium | Gueuze | 4.1
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 750 ml "champagne" bottle, now available in Norway (Vinmonopolet). ABV is 6%. Bottle date: 14-02-2007, the "best before" date also reads 02-2007, which obviously must be a misprint. Hazy golden colour, big white head. Lovely aroma of lemons and other sour fruits, with strong notes of farmhouse and horse stable. The flavour is very sour and tart, with lemony notes and a dry and astringent finish with noticeable hops. |

429 | La Caracole Saxo Bio | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 4.1
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 330 ml bottle, bought at Systembolaget. ABV is 7.5%. Some sediment in the bottle. Pours with an enormous white head, which slowly gives way to a cloudy pale yellow beer. Nice fruity and spicy aroma, notes of citrus and coriander, hints of farmhouse kitchen, fermenting apples and white wine vinegar. The flavour is sweet, zesty and very fruity, spicy notes too (coriander). Noticeable hops in the aftertaste. An interesting beer, pleasant to drink. |

430 | Sterkens St. Paul Special | Belgium | Belgian Ale | 3.6
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 330 ml fancy & slim dark green bottle, as St. Paul Speciale, now available in Norway (Vinmonopolet). ABV is 5.5%. Brown to amber coloured beer, huge beige head. Nice fruity and yeasty aroma, notes of cloves and other spices. Pleasant flavour, spicy and moderately oaky, notes of malts and caramel too. Not too sweet. Very moderate hops. The mouthfeel is maybe a bit thin, particularly in the finish. Not extreme in any way, but a quite enjoyable Belgian. |

431 | N'ice Chouffe | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 4.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 750 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 10%. 19 degrees Plato. Refermented in the bottle, unfiltered and unpasteurised. Ingredients include sugars, thyme and curacao. Hazy reddish dark brown colour, huge tan head. Pleasant but fairly moderate aroma with vinous notes, notes of oak and spices, hints of farmhouse. The flavour is distinctly spicy and oaky, with a substantial but not overwhelming sweetness from the malts and sugars. Some yeasty notes. Distinct hoppy bitterness in the aftertaste. Warming mouthfeel, but the 10% ABV does not dominate. As a Christmas beer, this one is better suited to accompany an English Christmas pudding than a main course of meats or fish - but is also nice to drink on its own. |

434 | Rubbel Sexy Lager | Belgium | Pale Lager | 2.4
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 4 330 ml bottle, daft label replete with bikini-clad girl to rub. ABV is 5.0%. Courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Pale golden colour, large to moderate lasting head. Moderate carbonation in the glass. Sweetish aroma, notes of candy. Sweetish pale lager flavour with some lemony notes. Very moderate hops, but there’s a slightly metallic bitterness in the aftertaste. You may think the label is sexy, but the beer is not. |

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.5%. Dark brown colour, huge tan head. Nice aroma - some fruit, notes of malts, caramel and bakery, hints of spices. The flavour is malty sweet with plenty of caramel, also raisins (a certain fruitiness) and chocolate. Some hops in the finish. A good beer, but slightly too much on the sweet side. |

437 | Satan Red | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 4.1
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.0%. Reddish amber colour, slightly hazy, huge and rocky off-white head, lasts "forever". Nice fruity and spicy aroma. Spicy flavour too, notes of oak, some caramel and fruit. Good stuff. By Satan, I think I’ll have another one! |

438 | Wilson Mild Stout | Belgium | Stout | 2.9
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 250 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.2%. Black colour, creamy brown head. Strong and sweet aroma of treacle / caramel, roasted malts, molasses, bakery and chocolate. Nice! Very sweet flavour, largely the same elements as in the aroma, but far too sugary and overwhelmingly sweet for me. |

439 | De Graal Dubbel | Belgium | Abbey Dubbel | 3.7
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 330 ml stubby bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. BB 0608. ABV is 6.5%. Refermented in the bottle. Copper coloured beer (clear first, cloudy when the yeast is poured in the end), large tan head with an orangey hue. Very nice aroma of spices, candi sugar, yeast and raisins. Soft mouthfeel. The flavour is moderately spicy with some caramel and toffee, lacks hops. The finish is kind of "empty", relatively light bodied for its strength. Still a nice and drinkable dubbel, but could have been better. |

440 | Van Diest Fruli Strawberry Beer | Belgium | Fruit Beer | 2.7
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 250 ml bottle, bought at Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4.1%. Cloudy brownish red colour, large pinkish head. Intense sweet aroma and flavour of strawberry jam and artificial "strawberry" candy bars, kind of sickly and sugary. Not undrinkable though. If blindfolded, I would probably not have guessed that this was a beer at all. Not my cup of tea (uh, beer) this one, but people who love candy and strawberry soda might like it. |

Deep brown colour, large beige head. Aroma of malts, dark sugar, dark dried fruits and anise, a hint of sweat. Fizzy mouthfeel. Sweet flavour, malts and dark sugar again, not very spicy, low bitterness, moderate notes of oak. Not bad, but cannot compete with the best trappists. |

443 | St. Feuillien Cuvée de Pâques | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 3.7
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Aug. 2005: 750 ml bottle, corked champagne-style. Bought in Denmark. Very large and lasting cream-coloured head, beer is hazy brown with a reddish hue. Very strong and "raw" aroma of barnyard, ensilage, ammonia, leather and fermenting fruits, mellows gradually in the glass. Flavour is a bit smoother and mellower than the aroma - chocolate sweetness, some oak and spices, moderate but decent hops. Mouthfeel becomes strangely metallic and watery (for a 7.5% beer, that is) in the finish. Some liquorice in the aftertaste. An interesting beer after all. |

Refreshing flavour, distinctly citrussy with some coriander. Nice enough to drink. |

Pours fizzy, crystal clear and very pale yellow colour, moderate but shortlived white head. Sweetish aroma of grass, malts and cookie dough. Fizzy mouthfeel, unpleasant. The flavour has notes of yeast, grass, some fruit and mild spices, some bittering hops in the aftertaste. Not something I’ll buy again. |

450 | Petit Orval | Belgium | Belgian Ale | 3.9
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 June 2016: 330 ml unlabelled bottle at Mikkeller Bar, Aarhus. Brown color, large white head. Aroma and flavour very much like the ordinary Orval, with "farmhouse" and "spicy" notes, distinct hops. It is quite impressive that so much flavour can be put into a beer of this moderate ABV. |
