4426 | Sagres | Portugal | Pale Lager | 2.7
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 Really a cross-breed between a European pale lager and an American standard, this is a pretty 'neutral' beer that should neither offend nor excite anyone (but it obviously has). I had it with seafood, at least it was a better choice than Kirin. |

4427 | Sagres Preta | Portugal | Schwarzbier | 2.8
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 4 330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal, Stavanger. Ingredients include maize (corn) and rice. 10.8 degrees Plato. ABV is 4.3%. Very dark colour, nearly black, ruby in the highlights. Low head. Very moderate malty aroma, hints of coffee. Flavour is surprisingly watery and bland, drinking it after the excellent Nøgne Ø and Nørrebro beers obviously didn’t help. "Boiled" notes, wet cardboard and dust abound. Disappointing. |

4428 | Bucegi 4.2% | Romania | Pale Lager | 1.7
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 4 I’ve noticed many raters frequently use the term ’bland’ for a lot of beers, appropriate or not. Now listen guys: You don’t fully realize what a ’bland’ beer is before you have sampled Bucegi! A remnant of the communist era, Bucegi was withdrawn from the market in 1995, but re-launched in February 2002, to nourish some Romanians’ nostalgic sentiments of the good old bad old times. |

4432 | Ciucas Brasov | Romania | Bohemian / Czech Pilsener | 2.6
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 500 ml can, from EkoMarket, Bryne. ABV is 4.6%. Crystal clear and very pale straw colour, huge white head. Sweetish aroma of pilsener malts and newmown grass. "Neutral" pilsener flavour, fairly crisp with moderate bittering hops, but at least there are no offensive off-flavours. Better than I feared. |

4433 | Bucegi 5% (2020-2022) | Romania | Pale Lager | 2.6
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 5 500 ml can, from a grocery store in Norway - I won't say which one, because the can had a sticker (in German) saying that the ABV is 5%. The max limit for selling alcohol in grocery stores in Norway is 4.75%. Bought in May 2024, so I doubt that the can was as old as 2022, but if that was the last year with 5.0% ABV, so be it. BB date 13.03.2025. Pale golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of malts, hay, honey, flowers and newmown grass. Surprisingly dry flavour, rather "neutral", moderate hops. Not undrinkable. |

4436 | Ochakovo Svetloe | Russia | Light / Lite Lager | 1.9
Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 500 ml clear glass bottle, at the Pushkin Restaurant stand at Gladmatfestivalen 2007, Stavanger. Served ice cold. Golden colour, minimal head. Minimal aroma, just a hint of honey. Fizzy mouthfeel. Standard industrial pale lager flavour, moderate bitterness. Not totally undrinkable, but boring. |

4437 | Nevskoe Svetloe | Russia | Light / Lite Lager | 2.7
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 500 ml can, a gift from my brother and sister-in-law, bought in St. Petersburg. ABV is 4,6%. Pale golden colour, big white head. Sweetish and fruity pale lager aroma, not offensive. The flavour is slightly citrussy with a moderate sweetness and very moderate hops. Could have been worse. |

4438 | Baltika 3 (Classic) | Russia | Pale Lager | 2.2
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.8%. Crystal clear pale yellow colour, fizzy white head. Very moderate aroma, some pilsener malts and a weak fruitiness. Very light bodied, relatively dry, very moderate bitterness. Cold, refreshing and easy drinking, but boring. |

4439 | Baltika 4 (Original) | Russia | Dunkel / Dark Lager | 3.5
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.6%. Copper coloured beer with a decent beige head. Interesting aroma of lightly roasted malts, caramel and fruit. The flavour is very malty and sweet (the maltose syrup shows its presence), but there is also some fruitiness. Plenty of caramel, hints of rye bread. Low bitterness. A bit too much sweetness for me, but definitely drinkable. |

4440 | Baltika 5 (Zolotoe) | Russia | Pale Lager | 1.7
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 500 ml clear bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Pale yellow to golden colour. Fizzy beer with a big head. Industrial sweetish pale lager aroma, notes of maize, candy and some fruit. The flavour is fairly sweet with some fruitiness, hardly any bitterness at all. Not much to write home about here. |

4441 | Baltika 7 (Export) | Russia | Lager | 2.1
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 4 330 ml green bottle with pull-off cap, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.4%. Very pale yellow colour, big head. Sweetish fruity and grassy aroma, also notes of candy. Sweet flavour, far too sweet for a pale lager, notes of fruit and candy. Low bitterness. Not my kind of beer. |

4442 | Tinkov Russian Lager (Zolotoe) | Russia | Lager | 2.0
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 (330 ml clear bottle, bought in Denmark). Golden colour, not entirely clear (cold filtered). A whiff of Heineken-like freshness when you open the bottle, disappears in the glass, where the aroma is weak malty with notes of boiled vegetables and wet cardboard, just a faint hint of catpiss (clear bottle?). Flavour is lightly malty with an unpleasant sweetness, notes of boiled carrots and maize (corn). Low on hops. Little aftertaste. The Russians may keep this beer to themselves, as far as I’m concerned. |

4443 | Tinkoff Temnoe (Porter) | Russia | Dunkel / Dark Lager | 3.1
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6 (330 ml bottle, bought in Denmark.) Forget that they call this a porter - this is a dunkel, and as such middle of the road, if I’m being kind. Copper colour, moderate head, weak malty aroma, flavour is smooth and easily drinkable, malty sweet with next to none bitterness. There are better German (and Norwegian!) dunkels around - no need to export this from Russia. |

4445 | Baltika 8 (Wheat) | Russia | Hefeweizen | 3.7
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 330 ml bottle, now available in Norway. Some sediment in bottle, pours with a typical enormous weissbier head. Pale straw coloured, just a slight haziness. Strong typical hefe-weissbier aroma, distinct cloves and banana-flavoured sweets, very nice. Light bodied, thinner mouthfeel than many German hefe-weissbiers, but refreshing. Cloves and moderate hops in the aftertaste. Not bad for a Russian macro brewery. |

4446 | Baltika 6 (Porter) | Russia | Baltic Porter | 3.5
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 June 2013: 500 ml bottle, from Løvbjerg, Ikast. ABV is 7.0%. Black colour, ruby in the highlights. Large beige head. The aroma is bready and moderately roasty, some fruity hints too. Pleasant and smooth flavour of moderately roasted malts, black bread, mild coffee, chocolate and caramel, but not too sweet. Very moderate hops. A beer I might well buy again. |

4447 | Dogma Hoptopod IPA | Serbia | IPA | 3.9
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 500 ml can, from Vinmonopolet Kvadrat. ABV is 6.5%. Hazy orange colour, moderate white head. Aroma of citrus / orange marmalade and piney hops. Fizzy and citric mouthfeel. Distinctly bitter flavour of piney / resinous hops, also notes of bitter oranges and grapefruit. A good West Coast IPA. |

4448 | SeyBrew Lager | Seychelles | Pale Lager | 2.4
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 4 Shared 280 ml green bottle. Pale golden colour, low white head. Moderate citrussy / catty aroma, some wet cardboard in the background. The flavour is fairly fresh with a hint of citrus, no doubt drinkable on a beach in the Seychelles, but not interesting anywhere else. |

4450 | Asia Pacific Tiger Beer | Singapore | Pale Lager | 3.1
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6 For an Asian pale lager, this is not too bad. Far more flavour than e.g. Thailand's Singha. I've never been to Singapore, but can imagine Tiger Beer would be great in the the tropical heat there. So leave the Singapore Gin Sling for the chicks - be a Tiger! |
