Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

250 ml bottle, simply labeled "Rodenbach", courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.2%. Very dark reddish brown colour, moderate beige head. Nice aroma of red wine vinegar, sour cherries and farmhouse kitchen. The flavour is moderately sweet and sour, notes of musty fruit, funk and red wine vinegar. Some oak in the finish, minimal hops. Not nearly as complex, powerful and interesting as the Grand Cru, but okay.

330 ml green stubby bottle, Strag stand at Smak 09. ABV in Norway is 4.7%. Pale golden colour, slightly hazy, low head. Citrussy / lemony aroma, notes of coriander too. Lemony flavour, notes of coriander, but lacks the rounded character of some other witbiers. Still a nice summer refreshment.

409 Hoegaarden Citrons Belgium Fruit Beer 1.8

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3

250 ml bottle, as Hoegaarden Citron, thanks to tarjei. ABV is 3.0%. Very pale straw coloured, slightly hazy, big to moderate white head. Aroma of lemon and lime (as expected), also more unpleasant notes of rotting fruits and vomit. The flavour is sugary sweet and citrussy, without the zesty freshness I hoped for (considering the beer had already had the misfortune of being diluted with this citrus stuff). Nope, this is not a beer for me. Drainpour.

410 Hoegaarden Rosée Belgium Fruit Beer 2.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

250 ml can, thanks to tarjei. ABV is 4.5%. Cloudy pink colour, big to moderate head with a pinkish hue. Strong sweetish aroma of ripe raspberries / raspberry jam. The flavour is sugary sweet with loads of ripe raspberries. Oh dear. Well, at least it is not as horrible as Hoegaarden Citron. I was able to finish this one.

412 Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor Belgium Belgian Strong Ale 3.9

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

330 ml bottle (Vinmonopolet, bestillingsutvalget), ABV is 8.0%. Ingredients include maize and sugar. Pale golden colour, slightly hazy, huge white head. Lovely complex fruity, sweetish and spicy aroma - fruitiness both from the yeast and the hops. The flavour is sweet and spicy with yeasty and fruity notes, and a distinct hoppy bitterness in the finish. High level of carbonation. Alcohol is noticeable.

413 Malheur Bière Brut Reserve Belgium Belgian Strong Ale 3.9

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

750 ml "champagne" bottle, from Vinmonopolet (bestillingsutvalget). ABV is 11%. Pale yellow colour, slightly hazy, big white head. The aroma is yeasty and spicy, hints of fermenting fruits and horse blanket - good, but not as great as I expected. The flavour is moderately sweet, certainly not "brut", notes of white candi sugar and spices, with noticeable alcohol. Moderate hops. Again: good, but I hoped for more complexity. Probably worth the price in Belgium, but not in Norway (NOK 219).

414 Beersel Oude Geuze Belgium Gueuze 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

375 ml "champagne" bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 6.0%. Pours with an enormous white (possibly slightly off-white) head, which slowly reveals a beer of hazy deep golden colour. Lovely complex aroma of farmhouse and fermenting fruits, hints of oak and spices. The flavour is fairly sour and tart, with a dry finish. Some hops in the aftertaste. Good stuff!

415 De Dolle Oerbier Special Reserva Belgium Belgian Strong Ale 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

330 ml bottle, vintage 2007, kindly shared by Ole_R. ABV is 13%. Deep red colour, low tan head. Vinous aroma, notes of claret, red wine vinegar and barnyard. The flavour is (more or less) "typical Flemish Red", notes of red wine vinegar, some lemony notes, astringent finish. Moderate hops. The high ABV is extremely well hidden, I might have guessed that the beer was half as strong as it actually is.

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

330 ml bottle, bought at Systembolaget, Sweden. ABV is 6.0%. Golden colour, huge white head. Lovely aroma of Belgian ale yeast and spices, hints of farmhouse kitchen. The flavour is mildly spicy and quite refreshing, but I’d like some more hops in the finish. A very drinkable beer all the same.

417 Finnfestøl Belgium Pale Lager 2.6

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. No GTIN code on the label, but the "Finnfest" commander general confirms that it is brewed by Van Steenberge. ABV is 4.5%. Ingredients include sugar. Clear pale golden colour, huge white head, no traces of sediment in the bottle. Sweetish "pale lager" aroma, notes of grass, some fruit and yeast. The flavour is moderately sweet with a somewhat sharp hoppy "bite" in the finish. Not a remarkably good beer, but drinkable.

422 Affligem Tripel Belgium Abbey Tripel 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

750 ml corked bottle, now available in Norway at Vinmonopolet. ABV is 9.5%. Pours with a huge white head, which slowly gives way to a golden beer. Pleasant typical triple aroma of Belgian yeast, fruit and a mild spiciness. The flavour is fresh and fruity, again with a mild spiciness, alcohol is noticeable but not overwhelming. Moderately sweet, the finish is slightly peppery, with moderate hops.

423 Slaapmutske Christmas (Christmas Nightcap) Belgium Belgian Strong Ale 4.1

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

330 ml bottle, as Slaapmutske Christmas, at the Christmas beer tasting of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Beautiful dark reddish brown colour, huge, creamy and long lasting off-white to beige head. Both aroma and flavour have a distinctly malty presence (not too sweet though) with some mild spicy, fruity and caramel notes, the hops are moderate - but the beer is overall so well balanced and highly drinkable that it deserves a high rating, even without being so very "special", nor extreme in any way.

Nice fruity and spicy aroma, moderate notes of Belgian yeast, hints of honey. The flavour is distinctly spicy on a moderately sweet and fruity background. The beer is fairly light bodied for its strength, alcohol is noticeable but not too much. Slightly peppery finish. A decent tripel! Will buy again.

375 ml corked and capped green bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5%. Clear red colour, big pink head. Intense aroma of ripe and sour raspberries. The flavour is very sour and tart, again with notes of sour raspberries. Good stuff, but requires that you like fruit lambics in the first place.
