From cask at HaandBryggeriet Beer Festival, Drammen. Cloudy brown colour, low off-white head. Distinct aroma of citrussy and piney hops, some sweetish malts in the background. Lovely hoppy flavour, citrussy (esp. grapefruity) notes. Resinous and piney notes too. A solid bitterness in the finish. For all hopheads: Hallelujah!

330 ml bottle, from Berentsens Brygghus, Ølutsalget. ABV is 4.7%. Bright red colour, moderate pink head. Strong and fresh aroma of raspberries. Fizzy and a bit watery mouthfeel. The flavour is not as sweet as the aroma made me expect. Raspberries with a very slight acidity, dull finish.

The flavour is first moderately malty, then distinct bittering hops take over, but there is not much complexity. Still better than I feared.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Jørpeland. Cloudy golden to orange colour, moderate white head. Pleasant hoppy aroma, notes of citrus, pine and spruce, some spicy notes too. Soft carbonation. The flavour has first a slight sweetness, then grapefruity and resinous hops take over the show, and last through the long and bitter aftertaste.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Jørpeland. ABV is 6.0%, 30 IBU. Black colour, moderate beige head. Aroma of roast malts, liquorice, dark chocolate and mild coffee. Moderately roasty flavour, notes of coffee, hints of liquorice and dark bitter chocolate, moderate but still distinct bittering hops. A decent robust porter.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Sauda. ABV is 7.0%. Deep reddish brown colour, moderate off-white to beige head. Very malty aroma with loads of caramel, hints of Christmas spices. Rich mouthfeel. Rich and malty flavour with plenty of caramel and Christmas spices, sweet but not too much, moderate bittering hops.

330 ml can, from Bunnpris Sauda. ABV is 4.7%. Cloudy orange colour, large to moderate white head. Pleasant aroma of citrus, crushed white grapes and tropical fruits, hints of spruce. Decent body for a beer of this ABV. Dry flavour, moderate citrus fruit with a distinct grapefruity and resinous bitterness in the finish.

250 ml bottle, wrapped in silk paper in a metal cylinder, from Vinmonopolet. Batch #373, ABV is 15.5%. Ingredients include sugars and coffee. 100 IBU. Pitch black colour, moderate greyish brown head. Strong aroma of stale cold coffee, roasted barley and dark bitter chocolate. Warming mouthfeel. Very sweet (too sweet) and sugary flavour, notes of sweetened coffee, syrup, chocolate and liquorice. The bitterness seems quite moderate, because of the overwhelming sweetness. Hints of resin in the aftertaste. Well worth sampling, but this is the least successful edition of Dark Horizon so far. Won’t buy again, as it is also quite expensive..

500 ml bottle, bought at Vaaland, Bryne, also Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%. Sediment, the bottle should be turned upside-down a couple times to get more wheat yeast flavour. Cloudy brownish-yellow colour, moderate white head. Moderate wheaty aroma, notes of citrus, hints of cloves and banana, but not as much as in most German hefeweizens. Light bodied. Refreshing wheaty flavour, moderate notes of citrus, cloves and banana, dry and slightly peppery finish.

Strong aroma of piney and resinous hops, a hint of camphorwood, also tropical fruits / passion fruit - excellent! High level of carbonation. Hoppy and peppery flavour, fairly bitter aftertaste. New Zealand hops rule!
