Pleasant aroma of pineapple, mango, passionfruit and other tropical fruits, a hint of sprucetips. Citric and juicy mouthfeel. The flavour is medium sweet, with notes of tropical fruits and citrus, a very moderate bitterness in the finish. Nice to drink.

Aroma of caramel, medium roast malts, brittle, raisins and prunes. Smooth flavour, with the same elements as the aroma. Moderate hops. Nice to drink.

330 ml can in cardboard cylinder (Berserk series), at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 12%. Black colour, moderate tan head. Distinct boozy aroma of dark rum and oak, hints of fusel and molasses. Warming mouthfeel. Sweet and rich flavour, again distinct notes of dark rum and oak, some roast malts, hops do not come forward, but there is a slight bitterness in the finish.

330 ml clear bottle, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 7.2%. Reddish brown colour, large to moderate off-white head. Aroma of vinegar, lactic acid, sour berries, lemons and caraway. Very acidic flavour, lactic acid and vinegar galore, also lemons, berries and caraway. The extreme acidity makes it undrinkable for me.

375 ml gold waxed bottle, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 13.3%. Pitch black colour, small brown head disappears instantly. Aroma of salted peanuts, hints of roast malts, caramel, molasses, vanilla and bourbon. Minimal carbonation, sticky mouthfeel. Very sweet flavour (way too sweet), with the same elements as the aroma. Would not buy again.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet Kvadrat. ABV is 8%. Nearly clear orange colour, large white head. A slight haziness when the yeast is poured in the end. Nice aroma of tangerine and orange marmalade, a hint of crushed gooseberries and kiwi fruit. Flavour of oranges (incl. bitter Seville), piney bittering hops in the finish. More of a West Coast IPA than a double NEIPA in my book, but who cares, as long as it tastes good?

330 ml can, as Rygr Hòkunått Norsk Julebock, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 4.7%. At this ABV, it is not a bock (despite the name) nor a Dunkel, but a Schwarzbier. It is not sweet (despite what the brewery says). Black colour, large to moderate beige head. Roasty aroma and flavour, coffee notes, burnt toast, quite dry. One-dimensional, but nice enough to drink. Not my preferred choice with the traditional Norwegian Yule fare, but nice to drink after dinner, or with a shot of aquavit at the side.

Aroma of roast malts and brown malts, not as roasty as the 4.7% Hòkunàtt Norsk Julebock. Smooth flavour, roast malts and brown malts again (a bit more roasty now), notes of coffee, dark chocolate and caramel, but not overly sweet. Nice to drink.

A small sample from 750 ml bottle, at Cardinal, Stavanger. Black colour. Distinct notes of oak and whiskey in aroma and flavour. Warming mouthfeel. Very sweet, but there is still a kind of balance here. A real treat - but the big bottle is for sharing!

Oct. 2020: 330 ml can, from Gualting Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.7%. Cloudy straw colour, moderate white head. Pleasant and fresh aroma of fruity kveik and fruity (citrus, tropical fruits) hops, hints of spruce. The flavour is medium dry and crisp, still with fruity and piney notes. Moderate bitterness. Might well buy again.

Citric mouthfeel and flavour, with piney and resinous notes throughout, but the bitterness is moderate. More of an American West Coast Pale Ale than anything typical English. Nice beer.

Slightly sweet flavour, notes of pilsener malts, hints of honey again, herbal German hops in the finish. Not bad.

Fruity and moderately citric flavour, enough acidity to be refreshing, interesting notes of kveik, moderate coriander, very moderate bittering hops.

500 ml can, from SPAR Jørpeland. ABV is 4.5%. Clear pale golden colour, moderate white head. Moderate but nice aroma of citrus and tropical fruits, including lychee. The flavour has pleasant notes of citrus and lychee, fortunately not too sweet. Might well buy again, when I just want a nice summer refreshment. A tad more bitterness would not hurt, though.

May 2013: 500 ml bottle, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4%. Deep golden to amber colour, large white head. Strong aroma of American hops, citrus and pine notes. Light to thin body, dry flavour, some grapefruity and piney notes, medium bitter finish. An okay summer refreshment, but clearly not Ægir’s best beer.

Aug. 2020: 330 ml can, from Det Gode Brygg, Kvadrat, Sandnes. ABV is 4.0%. Clear amber colour, moderate white head. Intense and repulsive aroma of artificial mango and orange essence. The flavour has much of the same artificial essence, but is not as sweet as I feared. Sharpish bitter finish. Unbalanced and unpleasant - by far the worst beer I've had from Ægir. Drainpour. Do us a service, and bury this recipe!

440 ml can, from SPAR Jørpeland. ABV is 4.7%. Slightly hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Sweetish aroma of malts and maize / sweet corn, some grassy notes, a hint of caramel. The flavour has also some sweetness, but not as much as the aroma made me fear. A surprisingly distinct and sharpish metallic bitterness follows the sweetness. Unbalanced, unharmonious - not a beer I'll buy again.

May 2015: Kinn Bresjnev Sovjet Staut, 750 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.0%. Hopped with Fuggles. Pitch black colour, moderate but lasting tan head. Strong dryish roasty aroma, notes of roast malts and coffee, some woodwork too. Medium dry flavour, just enough residual swetness to carry through the strong roasty notes of coffee and dark bitter chocolate. Fairly bitter finish, both from the hops and the roast malts.
