On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Reddish golden colour, white head. Aroma and flavour of beechwood smoked malts. Low bitterness. Pleasant and easy drinking, as soon as you have accepted that this is how a Rauchbier is supposed to taste.

750 ml corked bottle, 2019 vintage, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 11%. Clear colourless, nearly like water. No carbonation. Aroma of meadowsweet and Williams pears. Medium sweet flavour, very distinct notes of meadowsweet on a background of sweet perry. Interesting, but not something I'm likely to buy again. A little carbonation would have helped.

Oct. 2020: 330 ml can, from the brewery. ABV is 5.8%. Slightly hazy pink colour, small off-white head. Aroma of lactic acid, blackberries / bramble and vanilla. Medium sour flavour with the same elements, quite refreshing.

April 2013: Shared 500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.7%, Golden colour, moderate white head. Moderate malty aroma with some "dusty" notes. Thin mouthfeel. Bland and uninteresting flavour, quite dry, but nearly void of hops.

May 2020: 330 ml can, from the brewery. ABV is 7.5%. Hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Nice aroma of citrus, also tropical fruits and "spicy" hops. The flavour has a moderate malty and fruity sweetness, notes of citrus and tropical fruits again, some pine and spruce in the finish, but the bitterness is moderate to low.

Jan. 2022: Rerate, 750 ml green "champagne" bottle, vintage 2020, bought at the cidery in August 2021. ABV is 9%. Pale golden colour, pours sparkling with a small and shortlived white head. Fresh and pleasant aroma and flavour of the Discovery and Aroma apple varieties. Semi dry. Original rating Oct. 2020: Served per glass at NOK 115 (!) at Hotel Ullensvang, Lofthus. Golden colour, moderately sparkling (the bottle was already opened). Very fresh and attractive aroma and flavour of eating apples / dessert apples, semi-dry (or semi-sweet, if you like). Would happily buy again.

500 ml can, from Bunnpris Sand. Golden colour, moderate white head. The sweetish aroma has hints of blood orange, but more distinct notes of artificial "orange" candy. Citric and thin mouthfeel. Citric flavour, hints of blood orange, not too sweet, moderate bitterness.

330 ml can, from Vinmonopolet Suldal, Sand. ABV is 6.5%. Hazy orange colour, moderate white head. Aroma of orange marmalade, grapefruit and pine. Flavour with the same elements, distinctly piney and quite bitter.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Suldal, Sand, at an outrageous price. Barrel aged 36 months, ABV is 14.2%. Pitch black colour, moderate to small brown head. Intense aroma of booze (dark rum?) and oak, also notes of molasses and fusel. Cloyingly sweet flavour, notes of molasses, raisin, figs and dates, also oak, chocolate and booze. Would not buy again even at half the price.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 5.5%. Hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Modest aroma of malts and a hint of citrus. Citric flavour, a hint of yellow plums. Low bitterness. A decent refreshment, no more, no less.

500 ml can, from Coop Extra, Tau. ABV is 4.7%. Slightly hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Moderate aroma of fruity hops, some piney notes too. The mouthfeel is not too bad for a 4.7% session IPA. The flavour has typical "West Coast" notes of grapefruit and piney hops, decent bitterness. Maybe not so very special, but still one of Mack's better beers, this one.

375 ml slimline bottle, vintage 2022, bought at the cidery. ABV is 10%. Apple variety is Aroma. Clear and deep golden colour, no carbonation. Aroma of concentrated apple juice, oak and sulphites. Very sweet and intense flavour, with the same elements. Excellent stuff.

On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Moderately hazy pale golden colour, large white head. Malts and bakery in the aroma. Malts, citrus and herbal hops (Tettnanger) in the flavour. A fairly decent pilsener.

330 ml can, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 11%. Pitch black colour, large to moderate tan head. Sweetish aroma of malts, dark syrup, chocolate, vanilla and almonds. Sickly sweet and sugary flavour, the same elements as the aroma, but the beer is so revoltingly sweet that it is undrinkable for me. Totally unbalanced.

Aroma of jam of said fruits, also notes of tangerine. Medium sour flavour of gooseberries, prickly pear and tangerine, also lactic acid. Hardly any bitterness. Refreshing and nice to drink.

Aroma of sour & sweet Summerred apples. Crisp and medium dry flavour, moderate fruity acidity, some tannins in the slightly bitter finish.

Aroma of more or less artificial "fruits of the forest" essence. Medium sour flavour of "fruits of the forest" essence and lactic acid. Drinkable, but not a beer I'll buy again.

330 ml can, as Rygr Baldr Vestkyst IPA, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 7%. Slightly hazy orange to amber colour, large white head. Aroma of orange marmalade, grapefruit and pine. Distinctly resinous and grapefruity flavour, with a massive bitterness. A decent "old school" West Coast IPA.

November 2019: 330 ml can, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.5%. Hops are 2018 harvest Columbus, Citra and Centennial. Deep golden to orange colour, moderate white head. Aroma of grapefruit and spruce, a hint of tropical fruits. The flavour has some sweetness, but not too much. Distinct hops as expected, but far from extreme for a double IPA. Moderate aftertaste. Notes of citrus, spruce and pineapple, as the brewery suggests.

April 2020, sampled again today. 440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet Verksgt., Stavanger. ABV is 6.5%. Golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of fruity hops, notes of tropical fruits, hints of citrus and spruce. Hoppy flavour, fruity with a good bitterness. Some malty sweetness. Very good beer.

The flavour is fairly sweet, with the same elements as the aroma, balanced by a decent bitterness. Enjoyable.
