2507 | Gulpener Korenwolf | Netherlands | Witbier | 3.7
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Rerate, 500 ml can, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5%. Cloudy / milky yellow colour, large to moderate white head. Strong sweetish and spicy aroma, notes of elderflowers, bananas, bubble gum, citrus, coriander and cloves. The flavour is wheaty and refreshing, notes of banana, cloves and herbs. Very moderate hops. Original rating: I got this served in the Amsterdam Arena restaurant in Holland (from bottle) with a slice of lemon in the glass, but suspect it would have a slightly citrussy aroma and flavour even without the slice. Very refreshing, but not enough to be ecstatic about. A bonus point for the cute hamster on the bottle! |

2509 | Grolsch Premium Lager | Netherlands | Pale Lager | 2.9
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 More flavour than the other Dutch macrobrew lagers, still I'm far from ecstatic. Clearly on the bitter (hoppy) side (too much bitterness for me), some sweetness too. Not as easily drinkable as Dommelsch. I had it on tap (in Holland) as well as can (have sampled the original bottle earlier), it didn't improve much from tap, unlike most beers. |

2510 | La Trappe Blond / Koningshoeven Blonde | Netherlands | Belgian Ale | 3.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 This was my first Trappist ale, surely most of the others must be better?? Well, it's not a bad sipping beer, but I expected so much more. Lovely aroma when you open the bottle, diminishes considerably in the glass. I started drinking it too cold, but it didn't improve much as it warmed up. Sweetish aftertaste. Maybe I would have liked it more with a solid meal? Definitely not worth the price. |

2511 | La Trappe Dubbel / Koningshoeven Dubbel | Netherlands | Abbey Dubbel | 4.4
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 This one certainly has a lot more going than the Blond/Enkel. Moderate aroma of oak, spices, dried fruits and English pipe tobacco (before smoking!) Delightful flavour of gently roasted malts, some yeast and spices. Moreish indeed. Moderate hops in the aftertaste. I'm looking forward to the Triple and Quadruple! |

2513 | Christoffel Robertus | Netherlands | Vienna / Amber Lager | 4.2
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 (330 ml swingtop bottle, bought in Denmark). Copper colour, hazy, good thick head. Lovely aroma of spices, leather and caramel - from the aroma, I’d swear this was a Belgian ale. Bottom fermented it is, and it’s easier to sense this is a lager through the flavour and aftertaste, which still are very good. Malty flavour, mild spices and caramel without too much sweetness. Lightly hopped. Moreish. |

2514 | Christoffel Blond | Netherlands | Bohemian / Czech Pilsener | 3.9
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 (330 ml fliptop bottle, bought in Denmark). Hazy pale golden colour, moderate head, leaves some lacing. Aroma is yeasty like a blond ale and flowery (Saaz?) like a Bohemian pilsener. Flavour and aftertaste have a distinct hoppy bitterness, notes of pine needles, eucalyptus and grapefruit. Very nice. One small bottle is not enough! |

2516 | Gelders Ale | Netherlands | Belgian Ale | 3.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Draught at Café t'Arendsnest, Amsterdam. I expected of some reason this to be a Dutch copy of English cask ales, but it has a more yeasty and spicy flavour than any English brew I've had, and is also more carbonated. (But not as carbonated as Belgian ales). Flavour is otherwise dominated by rather bitter hops (but not as bitter as the barman made me expect). The colour is light brown, slightly hazy. You'd think the ABV was higher than it actually is. It is not a bad brew, but I'd prefer most English ales / bitters to this one. Still it's nice to find Dutch alternatives to the inevitable macrobrews |

2517 | Amstel Lager | Netherlands | Pale Lager | 2.7
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 An average lager. Very average! I think it was better the first times I tried it, many years ago (pre-Heineken), but then, my taste may have changed. After they bought the Amstel brewery, Heineken seem to have decided that Amstel should be their "Number 2" brand, in respect of both quantity and quality. |

2519 | Vos Bovengistend Bier | Netherlands | Belgian Ale | 3.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 (Bottle in Amsterdam, the restaurant nearest the Concergebouw). Reddish amber colour, moderate head. Flavour and mouthfeel more of a premium lager than an ale, good beer but nothing to get excited about. Fairly malty, some caramel, lager-like carbonation. |

2520 | t IJ Paasij | Netherlands | Belgian Ale | 4.1
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 This Easter brew is one of the best Dutch beers I've had, even if the "style" isn't my definite favourite. Had it on tap in Amsterdam, very enjoyable indeed. Pleasant spicy aroma with hints of leather and wood, the yeast is not as dominant as with some other beers of this style. Some sweetness in flavour and aftertaste, but not too much. Apparently this is a "you either like it or you don't"-beer. And I like it! |

2521 | t IJ Turbock | Netherlands | Belgian Strong Ale | 3.7
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 I had this beer at Café t'Arendsnest in Amsterdam (bottled - is it available on tap at all??). Cloudy brown colour, strong and powerful, warming mouthfeel. Flavourful, yeasty, heavy carbonation. It is not a bad brew, but I find the yeast flavour too dominant to give it a definite top rating. |

2522 | Supersol Lager | Netherlands | Pale Lager | 2.0
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 4 330 ml can, bought in Tenerife. ABV is 4.8%. Very pale golden colour, decent head. Weak aroma, some sweetish notes of maize (corn). Spritzy mouthfeel, moderately sweet, minimal hops. Thin. Typical run-of-the-mill contract brewed industrial lager. |

2523 | Lindeboom Pilsener | Netherlands | Bohemian / Czech Pilsener | 3.1
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 300 ml bottle, now available in Norway (Vinmonopolet). Golden colour. large head. Fairly malty aroma for a pilsener, flavour is also relatively sweet for a pils, there’s some unpleasant cardboard / boiled vegetables hints in the background, tolerable hops in the finish. A drinkable pils after all, but it can’t match the best Czech and German pilseners. |

2525 | Jopen Hoppenbier | Netherlands | Belgian Ale | 3.7
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 300 ml bottle, bought in Frederikshavn, Denmark. ABV is 6.8%. Top fermented blonde ale, brewed since 1994, allegedly replicated from a city of Haarlem recipe from 1501. Cloudy golden colour, huge head. Yeasty and fruity aroma, notes of barnyard and rotting/fermenting apples and pears. Flavour and aftertaste are fruity and mildly acidic, hints of oak and spices. Good beer! |
