Aroma of lactic acid, cherries / cherry kernels and marzipan. Very sour flavour, lactic acid galore, notes of sour cherries, lemons and marzipan. Way too sour for me, won't buy again.

Oct. 2017: 500 ml bottle, from the Norwegian importer. ABV is 6.6%. Deep amber colour, moderate off-white head. Nice aroma of spices and malts, hints of brown bread, dark fruits and sea water. Medium sour flavour, notes of lactic acid, lemons, citrus peel, plums, spices and salt.

RBESG 2006 Grand Tasting. The second Gose of my life. Cloudy pale golden colour. Hefeweizen and saltwater aroma. Moderately sour, milky and slightly salty flavour. A nice Gose.

500 ml bottle, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4.3%. Pale golden colour, large white head. Wheaty aroma, hints of fart and smoke. Fizzy mouthfeel. Medium sour flavour, notes of lactic acid and lightly smoked wheat malts, also some fruity notes reminiscent of yellow plums. Low bitterness. Not bad, not great, historically interesting - but there is probably a reason that the Lichtenhainer beer style died out.

Huge white (or slightly off-white) head, overcarbonated. Perfumed aroma of yeast, chamomile, orange peel and coriander. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour has too strong notes of chamomile and yeast, with orange peel and coriander in the background.

The aroma has the expected notes of chocolate and caramel, also hints of brown bread and burnt breadcrumbs. Smooth mouthfeel. The flavour has the same elements as the aroma, also fruity notes of prunes and a hint of honey, but not too sweet. A slight bitterness in the aftertaste. Very pleasant to drink.

Hazy ancient pink to red colour, moderate off-white to pink head. Distinct aroma of over-ripe raspberries. Moderately sour flavour of raspberries, redcurrants and lactic acid. Hardly any bitterness.

Moderately hazy golden colour, small white head. Aroma of citric hops, also notes of tropical fruits, hints of sprucetips. Light bodied. Slightly dry flavour, citrus and hints of tropical fruits, hints of pine in the finish, but the bitterness is low.

Clear and extremely pale golden colour, small white head. Moderate aroma of grassy and herbal hops. Thin and insipid mouthfeel. The flavour has some moderate herbal hops, but lacks a malty backbone.

330 ml bottle, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4.4%. Beautiful and clear chestnut colour, large off-white head. Aroma of malts (some of it lightly roasted), brown bread, burnt breadcrumbs, some caramel. The flavour is not too sweet, but has the same elements as the aroma, and more bittering hops than your average dunkel.

Distinct aroma of lactic acid and citrus zest, hints of ginger and chili. Extremely sour flavour of lactic acid, citrus zest in the background, followed by a vehement burn of habanero chilies and ginger. Sweet Jebus - what a mess!

440 ml can, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4.7%. Slightly hazy pale golden colour, huge white head - overcarbonated. Distinct aroma of mango and passionfruit, some wheaty, yeasty and piney notes too. Citric and fizzy mouthfeel. Wheaty, yeasty and fruity flavour - not very sweet, but too yeasty. Less distinct mango and passionfruit than expected. Hints of pine needles and juniper twigs. Won't buy again.

Rich and warming mouthfeel. Very sweet flavour, notes of roast malts, treacle, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon and oak. I recommend sharing the bottle.

440 ml can, as Moersleutel Smeerolie Mexicake Imperial Stout, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 11%. Pitch black colour, large brown head. The aroma has notes of roast malts, coffee, dark chocolate / cocoa, vanilla and cinnamon, hints of smoked chilies. Smooth, warming and rich mouthfeel. The medium sweet flavour has the same elements as the aroma, but there is now a more distinct chili burn, and moderate bittering hops. Outstanding beer!
