1906 | Moersleutel Willy Tonka - Tonka & Chocolate 2 | Netherlands | Imperial Stout | 3.1
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 Small sample from 440 ml can at Cardinal, Stavanger (I hope this is the right edition). Black colour, small tan head. A violent and overly sweet attack on the nose and tastebuds from sugar, tonka beans, cocoa and spices. But the guys at "Mandag i Annen" liked it, so who I am I to disagree (even if I claim to hate tonka beans in general)? Well, it is not bad in small portions. |

1908 | Cerveza Aguila (Columbia) | Colombia | Pale Lager | 1.5
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 2 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 Nov. 2013: 330 ml bottle, from Coop Mega Sola. ABV is 4.0%. Very pale yellow colour, moderate white head of poor retention. Moderate sweetish aroma, notes of grass, maize and artificial candy. Watery and soft mouthfeel. Bland flavour, some slight citric notes, could with some benevolence be called "refreshing", empty finish, minimal hops. We don’t need this. |

1909 | Sapporo Premium Lager | Japan | Pale Lager | 2.8
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 Oct. 2005: 330 ml bottle, as "Sapporo Premium Lager", brewed "under license in the EU". Ingredients are water, malts, hops and hop extract - no maize (corn) or rice here. Different recipe? Bought in Norway at Ultra. ABV here is 4.7%, to comply with our 4.75% upper limit for beers sold in grocery stores. Pale golden colour, large head. Flowery sweet aroma, not unpleasant. Flavour is surprisingly clean tasting, no sign of adjuncts and off-flavours, tolerable hops. Well, it’s a light bodied pale lager - I don’t expect miracles, but it sure was a lot better than I feared. |

1913 | Seven Island HoHoHo Hot Choco | Greece | Imperial Stout | 2.4
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 Small sample from can, at Cardinal, Stavanger. Black colour, beige head. First reaction: "Å du syge banan!!!". Sugary aroma and flavour, apparently intended to exterminate drinkers by giving them severe diabetes. This is just ridiculous. Also insane amounts of cocoa, marshmallows, nutmeg and cinnamon. At least it is not thin and insipid.. |

1915 | Rygr Hòkunàtt Norsk Doppelbock (8%) | Norway | Doppelbock | 3.7
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7 330 ml can, as Rygr Hòkunàtt Norsk Doppelbock, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 8.0%. Very dark brown to black colour, large beige head. Aroma of roast malts and brown malts, not as roasty as the 4.7% Hòkunàtt Norsk Julebock. Smooth flavour, roast malts and brown malts again (a bit more roasty now), notes of coffee, dark chocolate and caramel, but not overly sweet. Nice to drink. |

1916 | Rygr Hòkunàtt Norsk Julebock (4.7%) | Norway | Schwarzbier | 3.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 330 ml can, as Rygr Hòkunått Norsk Julebock, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 4.7%. At this ABV, it is not a bock (despite the name) nor a Dunkel, but a Schwarzbier. It is not sweet (despite what the brewery says). Black colour, large to moderate beige head. Roasty aroma and flavour, coffee notes, burnt toast, quite dry. One-dimensional, but nice enough to drink. Not my preferred choice with the traditional Norwegian Yule fare, but nice to drink after dinner, or with a shot of aquavit at the side. |

1924 | Krecher Jormungrinder | Norway | Imperial IPA | 4.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet Kvadrat. ABV is 8%. Nearly clear orange colour, large white head. A slight haziness when the yeast is poured in the end. Nice aroma of tangerine and orange marmalade, a hint of crushed gooseberries and kiwi fruit. Flavour of oranges (incl. bitter Seville), piney bittering hops in the finish. More of a West Coast IPA than a double NEIPA in my book, but who cares, as long as it tastes good? |
