April 2013: Shared 330 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 5.5%. Very dark brown colour, large off-white to beige head. Interesting sweet & sour aroma, notes of oak and spices, hints of red wine vinegar. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour is not as sweet as I feared, and not extremely sour. Light bodied. Some oaky and mild spicy notes, a hint of red wine vinegar again. Minimal hops, and the finish is rather bland.

April 2014: Shared 330 ml bottle as Petrus Gouden Tripel, at local tasting. Golden colour, white head. Pleasant aroma of spicy Belgian ale yeast, hints of kandij sugar and hops. Fizzy mouthfeel. Medium dry flavour, some spicy notes, decent hops, but not particularly complex.

375 ml bottle, as Salikatt Phoenix 2021, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 13.3%. Black colour, no head and no visible carbonation. Moderate aroma of malts, molasses, oak, fusel and bourbon. Some slight carbonation in the mouth. Sweet flavour of medium roast malts, molasses, caramel, treacle, oak, a hint of bourbon. Nice enough for sharing, but I doubt if I would buy it again.

March 2018: On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Strong aroma of peat smoke (Laphroaig Scotch whisky) and roast malts. Medium sweet flavour, some lactose and dates, roast malts, intense notes of peat smoke, too much peat for me.

Nov. 2020 Shared can from Vinmonopolet Hillevåg, vintage 2020. Hazy yellow to orange colour, white head. Mandarin / tangerine and tropical fruits in aroma and flavour, quite sweet (too sweet?). And there's nothing "Christmassy" about it. Not my choice for Christmas dinner, anyway.

June 2017: 250 ml bottle, from the Norwegian importer. ABV is 3.8%. Served on the rocks as recommended. Yellow colour, large white head. Aroma of yellow fruits, basil and elderberry, also notes of artificial candy. Sweet flavour, notes of artificial candy, yellow fruits and candy. Not good.

May 2014: On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Cloudy brown colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma of red wine vinegar, malt vinegar and malts. Moderately sour and vinegary flavour, some sweetness and malts, no sign of hops. Watery body. Not really my thing.

Dec. 2011: 375 ml green corked and caged "champagne" bottle, wrapped in red paper, as Liefmans Cuvée Brut, will soon be available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.0%. Dark red beer, large pinkish-peachy head. Strong and intense aroma of cherries, also notes of almonds and marzipan. The flavour is cherries all the way, medium sweet, not "brut" by any stretch of the mind. At least it is somewhat drier than Liefmans Fruitesse. Just a hint of hops and oak in the finish. Quite good, if you like cherries (and who doesn’t?), and don’t expect a "normal" beer flavour.

Nov. 2019: Shared 750 ml paper wrapped bottle, at the Yule beer tasting of Lilland Bryggerihotell, Tau. Red colour, pink head. Distinct aroma and flavour of cherries and glühwein (gløgg) spices, more sweet than sour. Sampled moderately chilled, not hot.

Jan. 2020: Shared 750 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. Very dark brown colour. beige head. Aroma of red wine, brettanomyces and oak, hints of red wine vinegar. The flavour is not too sweet, nor too sour, but has distinct notes of red wine, brett and oak. Well rounded and balanced, enjoyable.

March 2016: 330 ml bottle, from the Norwegian importer (I could swear I had rated this beer before, but apparently not). Dark reddish brown colour, large beige head. The aroma has first a whiff of smoke, then notes of red wine, red wine vinegar, oak and horse stable. Pleasant flavour, malty, fruity and only moderately sour, again notes of red wine, red wine vinegar and oak, hardly any noticeable hops. Still easy drinking, due to the fruitiness. The alcohol is well hidden. Nice one.

500 ml bottle, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 5.8%. Gusher bottle. Slightly hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of piney and citric hops, also yeast. Citric and fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour has a distinct grapefruity and piney / resinous bitterness, some malts and yeast in the background.

375 ml waxed bottle, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 13.3%. Pitch black colour, small brown head. Boozy aroma of bourbon whiskey, fusel and molasses, also oak, coconut, chocolate and vanilla. Rich and warming mouthfeel. The flavour is quite sweet, and has the same elements as the aroma, also notes of brown sugar and a hint of dark dried fruits. Sharing the bottle might be a good idea.

750 ml corked & caged clear bottle, vintage 2017, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 10.5%. Clear golden colour, pours sparkling with a large but shortlived white head. Aroma of oxidised apple must and funky cellar. Dry flavour of apples, a hint of oak, some tannins, slightly astringent finish.

April 2017: 750 ml corked & caged green bottle, vintage 2016, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 6.5%. Apple varieties are Discovery, Aroma and Gravenstein. Very pale yellow colour, pours sparkling with a white shortlived head. Strong and beguiling aroma of said dessert apple varieties. Hints of oak and sulphites. Semi-sweet flavour of dessert apples, a hint of sulphites. Expensive, but worth it.

May 2017: 750 ml corked & caged clear bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. Made in 2016. Pale golden colour, pours fizzy with a large but shortlived head. Aroma of sweet dessert apples and sulphites. Moderate carbonation in the mouth. Flavour of sweet apples and appleskins, drier finish with hints of sulphites. The ordinary Alde Sider is better.

Dec. 2021: 750 ml corked & caged clear bottle, batch #01/2019, from the cidery. ABV is 5.5%. Clear and very pale straw colour, pours moderately sparkling with a small and shortlived white head. Aroma of Norwegian apple varieties, a hint of sulphites. Medium dry and fresh flavour of apples, some tannins and sulphites.

375 ml slim bottle, from the cidery. ABV is 10%. Clear deep golden to orange colour, no carbonation. Intense and lovely aroma of ripe dessert apples and concentrated apple juice. Even more intense and sweet flavour - again obvious notes of ripe dessert apples and concentrated apple juice, but also with qualities that can compete with the finest dessert wines like Sauternes or Tokajer.

750 ml corked & caged dark green bottle, vintage 2021, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 9%. Supposed to be a still cider, but there is a slight initial carbonation. Golden colour. Aroma of apples and sulphites, a hint of oak. Pleasant and medium concentrated flavour of dessert apples.
