May 2013: Shared 330 ml can, kindly brought home from Cambodia by my cousin. ABV is 5%. Pale golden colour, moderate white head. Minimal aroma. Watery mouthfeel. The flavour is quite dry and rather bland as expected, with a hint of hops in the finish.

Aug. 2014: Shared 330 ml bottle at local tasting. ABV is 8%. Black colour,moderate tan head. Aroma of lightly roasted malts, low quality soy sauce, molasses, thin coffee and dust. Dry flavour, liquorice, coffee and soy sauce.

May 2012: Sample at Copenhagen Beer Festival. Deep golden colour. Both aroma and flavour have caramel, toffee and decent hops throughout. Pleasant to drink. This is a surprisingly well balanced strong pale ale from Greenland. The alcohol is noticeable, but does not dominate.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 10%. Pitch black colour, large to moderate creamy tan head. Aroma of vanilla, chocolate, brown sugar, caramel and roast malts. Sickly sweet flavour of salted caramel (which I hate), and otherwise the same elements as the aroma. A slight hop bitterness in the finish. Won't buy a gain.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 7%. Black colour, large to moderate tan head. Aroma of lightly roasted malts, chocolate and mild coffee. Smooth mouthfeel and flavour. The flavour is not too sweet, and has the same elements as the aroma. Also hints of oatmeal, prunes and burnt breadcrumbs. Moderate but noticeable bittering hops. Very good beer, will buy again.

April 2013: Shared 500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.7%, Golden colour, moderate white head. Moderate malty aroma with some "dusty" notes. Thin mouthfeel. Bland and uninteresting flavour, quite dry, but nearly void of hops.

May 2013: 330 ml bottle shared by our beerpal Ole Anders. ABV is 5%. Hazy pale golden colour, moderate white head. Moderate but nice citrussy aroma. Citrussy flavour as expected, also more hops than normal for a cream ale.

March 2014: 330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6%. Hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Spicy and yeasty aroma and flavour, also strong notes of citrus and hops. Maybe a bit too far out on the yeasty side, but still very drinkable.

Jan. 2016: 500 ml bottle, batch #1101, will soon be available (also on tap) at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.5%. Hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Lovely aroma of lychee, passion fruit and citrus, also a hint of pine. Medium body. The flavour has a slight sweetness, and distinct hops throughout. Notes of tropical fruits, citrus, lemongrass and dill, pine / resin in the finish and aftertaste. Good beer. Certainly no "cream ale", but a more than decent APA.

Feb. 2016: 330 ml bottle, from Matkroken Stokka. BB date 03.07.14. ABV is 4.4%. Very pale yellow colour, moderate to low white head. Sweetish fruity and herbal aroma, some grassy notes too. Fairly fresh and crisp flavour, a little residual sweetness but not too much. Citrussy notes, moderate herbal hops. Better than I feared.

Nov. 2012: 330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.0%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Moderate beige head. Aroma of cold coffee and woodwork, hints of dark chocolate. The flavour is medium dry, with distinct notes of coffee and wood. Some hops in the finish.

Jan. 2013: On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Deep golden colour, large white head. Pleasant aroma of fruity hops (citrus, tropical fruits), also hints of pine. The flavour is dry and distinctly hoppy, notes of pine / resin and grapefruit. Bitter finish / aftertaste. With 4.3% it is naturally light bodied, but has still plenty of flavour.

April 2012: On tap at Schouskjelleren, Oslo. ABV was said to be 4.7%. Black colour, moderate beige head, nice lacing. Pleasant aroma of cranberries, hints of chocolate and mild coffee in the background. Fruity and moderately acidic flavour, cranberries of course, roasty notes (mild coffee). Fairly refreshing.

April 2014: Shared 750 ml corked & caged bottle, at local tasting. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Oaky and vinous aroma. Moderately oaky flavour, decent malts but only mild roasty notes, pleasant to drink. Very moderate hops.

Feb. 2020: 330 ml bottle, as Thomas Hardy's Ale Golden Edition 50th Anniversary, Vintage 2018, bottle No. 01037, from Bestofbeers, Denmark. ABV is 13%. Hazy reddish brown colour, minimal and shortlived of-white to beige head. Low carbonation. Aroma of malts, molasses, tobacco, oak and caramel, hints of dark dried fruits. Moderately sweet flavour with the same elements, distinct oak and tobacco, moderate hops. Warming mouthfeel.

Feb. 2020: 250 ml bottle, from Bestofbeers, Denmark. ABV is 12.7%. Dark brown colour, minimal carbonation, thin and shortlived beige head. Aroma of malts, molasses, oak, raisins and cognac. Rich flavour, fairly sweet, distinct notes of oak, raisins and cognac. Smooth to drink, warming mouth- and throatfeel.

250 ml bottle with a goldfoil neck, No. 00816, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 13.1%. Dark amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma of malts, molasses, stale jam and oak, disappointing. Warming mouthfeel. The flavour is better than the aroma, not too sweet, with distinct notes of French oak, caramel and dark dried fruits.

750 ml bottle, as 3 Fonteinen Aardbei Oogst 2021 (season 21|22) Blend No. 77. Purchased at Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken, at an outrageous price. ABV is 6.5%. Hazy orange colour, moderate and shortlived white head. Distinct aroma of brettanomyces / farmhouse / barnyard, strawberries and oak. Sour flavour of brettanomyces, strawberries, lemons and oak. A hint of solvent in the aftertaste. Not worth the high price.

July 2017: Cask from the wood, halfpint, at the SPBW 1st National Woodfest, Castleford. Black colour, tan head. "Dusty" and dull aroma. Fairly light bodied. Mild roasty notes in the flavour, while a certain fruity acidity helps the drinkability.

July 2017: Cask from the wood, halfpint, at the SPBW 1st National Woodfest, Castleford. Deep golden to orange colour, white head. Nice aroma of citrussy hops. The flavour is fairly sweet, with distinct citrussy and piney hops. Bitter and woody finish.

June 2019: Cask 1/3 pint at the 46th Cambridge Beer Festival, 2019. ABV 3.3%. Very dark reddish brown colour, beige head. Aroma of dust, grain and a hint of chocolate. Light bodied. The flavour has notes of chocolate with a decent fruitiness.

Aug. 2014: 500 ml bottle, from Guernsey. ABV is 3.4%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Moderate beige head. Malty aroma, notes of caramel, hints of liquorice and black bread. Smooth mouthfeel. Malty flavour, but not too sweet. Notes of dark bread and Norwegian "Tomtebrygg". Pleasant to drink.

Feb. 2018: 330 ml can, from Ales By Mail. ABV is 4.5%. Golden colour, moderate to small white head. Moderate aroma of piney and fruity American hops Light bodied. The flavour is moderately fruity first, with some resin, then a sharp and very distinct and medicinal bitterness takes over, and lasts through the long aftertaste. The beer has not enough body to support the bitterness.

March 2014: Shared bottle, as Ilkley Dinner Ale, at hotel room tasting. ABV is 3.3%. Deep golden colour. Aroma of malts, toffee and dust. Surprisingly hoppy flavour for a beer of this low ABV, quite nice, also noticeable malts. Might sample again.

March 2014: Sample from bottle at hotel room tasting. ABV is 3.7%. Dark brown colour, moderate off-white head. Mild roasty notes in the aroma. Smooth and pleasant flavour, mild roasty notes, hints of mild coffee and chocolate, but not sweet. I could easily drink a few pints of this one. Will buy again.
