5551 | Williams Brothers Roisin Tayberry | United Kingdom | Fruit Beer | 3.6
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, bought at Real Foods, Edinburgh (an organic food store, but there’s no mentioning on the label that this beer is organic). ABV is 4.2%. The basis of this beer is Williams Gold, with added tayberries and left to mature for a few weeks. Williams Bros Róisin Tayberry Beer pours with a clear pinkish red colour and a decent pale pink head. Strong aroma of ripe tayberries (which appears to be a crossbreed between raspberry and blackberry, much like boysenberries). The flavour is also dominated by tayberries, but the beer is not very sweet, nor very sour, and there are noticeable hops in the finish. The mouthfeel is a bit thin though. Still a nice change-of-pace beer. |

5552 | Tullibardine 1488 Majestic Whisky Ale | United Kingdom | Scottish Ale | 3.0
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml bottle, as "Tullibardine 1488 Majestic Whisky Ale", bought in Edinburgh. ABV is 7.0%. Brewed and bottled by Traditional Scottish Ales Ltd. for the Tullibardine Distillery, using the distillery’s spring water and malted barley. Clear and deep golden colour, pours very fizzy, when the fizziness subsides just a small white head remains. Strange aroma, sweetish / sugary and oaky, with peaty and fruity notes. The flavour is very sweet and alcoholic. There are notes of whisky casks and peat as expected, but I also expected something far drier and maybe more "scotch & club soda"-like, not this overwhelming sweetness. Are there any hops in this beer at all? Still, when you get used to the sweetness, the beer is drinkable - but remains a disappointment. |

5553 | Pinkus Hefeweizen | Germany | Hefeweizen | 3.7
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, bought at Real Foods, Edinburgh. ABV is 5.0%. Like all Pinkus Müller beers, it is organic. Cloudy pale yellow colour, huge white head. Strong and typical hefeweizen aroma, spicy notes of cloves and banana, hints of farmhouse and oak. Soft mouthfeel. Wheaty flavour, subdued cloves and banana, moderate sweetness. Another good hefeweizen, but not the very best. |

5555 | Unibroue Trois Pistoles | Canada | Belgian Strong Ale | 4.4
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. Dark brown beer with a huge beige head. Very fine and complex aroma with vinous notes, also notes of oak, spices, cocoa, red berries and dark fruits, hints of barnyard and tobacco. The flavour is sweet, vinous and fruity, quite smooth for 9% ABV beer. Moderate hops. Many of the elements of the aroma stay with you through the flavour and aftertaste. An excellent beer! |

5567 | Atna Riksøl | Norway | Reduced Alcohol | 2.9
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 5 330 ml green bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. Hazy golden colour (like a hefeweizen), moderate head. Quite nice aroma, notes of yeast, wood and heather. Smooth mouthfeel, light bodied. Refreshing flavour with a distinct hoppy bitterness in finish. Very bitter aftertaste. None of the "boiled" notes of other n/a beers. This is, par excellence, the best n/a beer I’ve ever tasted (but then most of the others have been pretty bad). |

5568 | Cobra Alcohol Free Lager | United Kingdom | Reduced Alcohol | 1.8
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 330 ml green bottle, as "Cobra Extra Smooth Alcohol Free Premium Beer", courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. Crystal clear pale golden colour, decent head. Sweetish typical n/a lager aroma: maize (corn) and boiled vegetables. The flavour is sweetish with minimal hops, pretty bad, but the beer is not completely undrinkable when ice cold. |

5574 | Wiibroes Argangsol | Denmark | Strong Lager | 3.3
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7 Wiibroe Årgangsøl (= "Vintage Beer") has (like all other Wiibroe beers) been brewed by Carlsberg in Copenhagen since 1998. They have had a tradition of brewing each vintage 0.1% stronger than the previous year, but the basic recipe seems to be the same. Sampled 330 ml bottle, vintage 2002, in Denmark. When brewers (in general) try to make a pilsener-style lager with more than 10% ABV, the result is normally disastrous. Not so in this case. Golden coloured beer. Pleasant aroma, alcohol presence in the flavour but fairly well balanced. Not a great beer, but not bad either. |
