The aroma is first Heineken-like and grassy ("thanks" to the clear bottle), then some sweetish vanilla notes come through. The flavour is fairly sweet with citrussy notes, also strong notes of vanilla, moderate notes of wood. Very moderate hops in the aftertaste. |

4655 | J.W. Lees Moonraker | United Kingdom | Old Ale | 4.2

The flavour is malty sweet and rich, notes of caramel and dark dried fruits again, vinous and oaky notes too, moderate hops in the finish. A lovely strong ale! |

4656 | Gourmetbryggeriet Blanche | Denmark | Witbier | 2.8
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV is 5.0%. Crystal clear extremely pale straw colour, moderate white head. Fairly decent aroma of fruity (yes, apricots) and floral hops. The flavour is clean, crisp and refreshing with a moderate sweetness, but the hops are too moderate. The name "Blanche" makes you expect a witbier / bière blanche, but this is just another pilsener - not a bad one, but far from exciting. |

4657 | Løkken Mørk Kutterøl | Denmark | Mild Ale | 3.6
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV is 5.2%. Very dark brown to ruby colour, nearly black. Big to moderate beige head. Fairly nice aroma with a mild roastiness, notes of caramel, mild coffee and some fruit. The flavour has basically the same elements as the aroma, but with less caramel and a very slight acidity. Hints of chocolate too. Dry aftertaste. As a "strong dark mild", this is not too bad! |

4658 | Gourmetbryggeriet Blue Mountain Stout | Denmark | Stout | 3.5
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 660 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV is 6.5%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Big beige head. "Dusty" aroma with notes of coffee, hints of chocolate. Moderately roasty flavour with notes of coffee and dark chocolate (which indeed are among the ingredients), not very sweet. The hops are fairly subdued. Light mouthfeel, the alcohol is well hidden. Decent enough to drink, but not the greatest stout I’ve had. |

4660 | Randers Classic | Denmark | Vienna / Amber Lager | 3.2
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml bottle, from Superbrugsen, Skødstrup. ABV is 6.0%. Unfiltered and unpasteurised. Hazy deep golden colour, big white head. Aroma of herbal and grassy hops, hints of caramel malts. The flavour is maltier, a little sweeter and a bit more alcoholic than a standard Danish Classic, more like a Maibock. Noticeable hops throughout. Not too bad. |

4661 | Flying Dog Raging Bitch Belgian IPA | United States | Imperial IPA | 3.8
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8 355 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 8.3%, IBU 60. Clear orange colour, big off-white head. Lovely strong aroma of fruity and piney American hops, notes of oranges and slightly caramellized orange marmalade. The flavour is a hoppy explosion from start to finish, fruity (orange marmalade) first, very bitter in the end. There is a considerable malty sweetness that stands up to the bitterness. I don’t get many "Belgian" notes out of this "Belgian IPA", it is all very American to me. |

4662 | Warka Jasne Pelne (Warka Beer) | Poland | Bohemian / Czech Pilsener | 3.1

Very moderate aroma of flowery hops, hints of honey. Standard pilsener flavour, moderate hops, dry finish. Decent enough, but nothing special. |

Pitch black colour, big tan head. First a fairly moderate but very nice roasty aroma (gets even better as the beer warms up a little) with some vinous notes, hints of dark dried fruits and leather. The flavour is also vinous, oaky and roasty, hints of raisins, coffee and liquorice. Overall brilliant. |

4664 | Lucifer (Vintages through 2008) | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 2.9
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 330 ml bottle, bought at Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 8%, brewed by Het Anker. Very pale yellow colour, hazy in the end, huge white head. The aroma has notes of "Green Apples Shampoo", Belgian ale yeast and spices. The flavour is fairly refreshing for its strength and moderately spicy, notes of green apples again, also notes of white candi sugar and artificial candy, unpleasant soapy aftertaste. Overall disappointing. |

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, from Voldy Købmandsgård. Brewed with organic barley malts and oats. ABV is 5.5%. Deep brown colour, big and lasting beige head. Strong aroma of caramel, also hints of brown bread, nuts and over-ripe peaches. The flavour is malty, bready, nutty and mellow, notes of caramel but not too sweet, with very subdued hops that still are noticeable in the aftertaste. Fairly decent beer. |

Deep golden to amber colour, big to moderate white (or slightly off-white) head. Spicy and herbal aroma, hints of flowers and honey too. The flavour is fairly sweet and malty with caramel and moderate hops, hints of honey, the alcohol is noticeable. Lacks the crisp freshness of the Hildegarde Blonde. |

4667 | Lervig Lucky Jack | Norway | American Pale Ale | 3.8
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7 330 ml bottle (filtered and pasteurised), also sampled unpasteurised on tap, both courtesy of Lervig brewery. Deep golden colour, big to moderate white head. Very nice aroma of American hops (Chinook, Amarillo and Citra - also dry hopped), notes of orange marmalade and pine. Refreshing flavour with distinct hoppy notes throughout, citric and resinous notes, not too sweet, bitter finish. Light bodied, ideally this should have been a beer around 5.6% ABV, but then you have the Norwegian limit at 4.75% ABV for beers sold in grocery stores, making it necessary to compromise. Still, this is an enjoyable beer as it is. |

4668 | Lervig Northwestern Lager | Norway | Lager | 3.9
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Sampled on tap at Gladmatfestivalen, Stavanger. Unfiltered and unpasteurised. Will be made available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Deep golden colour, slightly hazy. Moderate white head. Excellent aroma and flavour dominated by American Northwestern hops (Chinook, Amarillo and Citra), perfectly balanced by the malts (pilsener and crystal). Citric and resinous notes, just the right bitterness. One of the best lagers I’ve had in a long time. |

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 4.6%. Golden colour, big to moderate white head. Nice aroma of floral and fruity hops, "dusty" malts in the background. The flavour is fruity, on a background of fairly sweet pale malts, ending in a very moderate bitterness. Like other Badger bottled beers: refreshing and drinkable, but does not blow your socks off. |

4671 | Mikkeller Beer Geek Bacon | Denmark | Smoked Ale | 4.2
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 500 ml unlabelled bottle, a gift from Mikkeller/Nøgne Ø via Cardinal. Black colour, big brown head. Strong roasty and smoky aroma, notes of tar and old rope rather than bacon (well yes, some uncooked bacon too). The flavour is roasty with notes of strong coffee, dark bitter chocolate and tar, also distinct smoky notes, but not quite as extreme as I expected. Hints of liquorice too, not very sweet. Ah, beer - so much more than a breakfast drink! |

4672 | De Leckere Witte Vrouwen | Netherlands | Witbier | 3.7
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 300 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 5.0%. Hazy pale golden colour, big white head. Wheaty and spicy aroma, notes of cloves and coriander (even though coriander has not been added, the spiciness comes from the yeast alone), also notes of over-ripe and decaying bananas. Soft mouthfeel, moderate carbonation in the glass. Clean and very refreshing wheaty flavour, with hints of bananas and a mild spiciness, not too sweet. Moderate hops in the aftertaste. Moreish - one bottle is not enough! |

4673 | Wittekerke Rose | Belgium | Fruit Beer | 3.5
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 250 ml nip bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 4.3%. Cloudy pink colour, big off-white / pale pink head. Strong aroma of raspberry juice and raspberry jam. The flavour is sweet but still refreshing, with plenty of raspberry juice and just a hint of hops. I think they could with advantage have skipped the aspartame and artificial aromatics, though. |

4674 | Nøgne Ø Imperial Stout Belgique (Frank’s Sour Black) | Norway | Imperial Stout | 3.7
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 On tap at Nærbø Beer Festival and a private tasting at Cardinal. Can’t find my original notes of this beer, but I remember it as a very special combination of the roastiness of NØ Imperial Stout (of which I am a big fan) and the sourness of Flanders red (or even lambic). A fun experiment, but I’ll admit I would prefer the original Imperial Stout on a daily basis. |

4675 | Pausa Café P.I.L.S. | Italy | Bohemian / Czech Pilsener | 2.7
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. According to the label, ABV is 4.8%, brewery website says 4.7%. Golden colour, minimal white head. Nice aroma of Saaz hops, floral, fruity and herbal notes. Minimal carbonation in the glass. The flavour is very sweet (too sweet) and sugary for a pilsener, notes of fruits and herbs too, decent hoppy bittterness in the finish. The excessive sweetness and minimal carbonation might be due to a production error, the beer has been retired from Vinmonopolet before it came for sale there. Still drinkable as it is. |
