On tap at HaandBryggeriet Beer Festival, Drammen. Pitch black colour, brown head. Lovely complex aroma, cognac, oak, vanilla, roasty notes (coffee, liquorice). Excellent flavour, medium sweet and distinctly roasty, notes of cognac, oak, coffee, caramel and liquorice. Top notch!

On tap as Närke Äkta Capsylo, at HaandBryggeriet Beer Festival, Drammen. OG was 1049, ABV 4.9%. Deep golden colour, large white head. Moderate aroma of fruity hops (tropical fruits). Nice hoppy flavour, fruity and resinous notes, bitter finish. Decent beer.

On tap at HaandBryggeriet Beer Festival, Drammen. Reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head. This is supposed to be some kind of gruit beer. Herbal aroma and flavour, notes of hemp. The mix of herbs is quite complex, it is difficult to identify single herbs. Bitter finish (possibly wormwood?). It is debatable how "good" this beer is, but at least it is among the most INTERESTING of its kind.

On tap at HaandBryggeriet Beer Festival, Drammen. Brownish red (more than reddish brown) colour, moderate off-white head. Fruity, oaky and vinous aroma, slightly acidic. (According to the brewer, no grapes nor any other fruit has been added to the beer, but it has fermented and matured in oak barrels previously used for their grape-infused beers), The flavour is oaky, fruity and slightly acidic / vinegary, but lacks a hoppy counterpoint, and there is not much malty sweetness either.

375 ml capped green bottle, from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo. ABV is 7.7%. 1/3 of the beer leaked out in my suitcase during the flight from Oslo to Stavanger. (But that was nothing compared to another bottle where ALL the beer leaked out, and the two botlles that broke, despite being wrapped in bubblewrap.) Still plenty of carbonation left in the bottle. Pours fizzy with a large off-white / peach head, the beer is cloudy red. Intense aroma of brettanomyces / "farmhouse", cranberries and red wine vinegar. The flavour is very sour, lemony and crisp, plenty of cranberries, oaky notes.

750 ml corked "ghost bottle", at an exclusive tasting with Garrett Oliver. Deep golden colour, moderate white head. Wonderful vinous and complex aroma, spicy, notes of tobacco. Excellent complex flavour, spicy notes. I hope this beer will be made widely available.

500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.1%. Pitch black colour, moderate brown head. Strong smokey and roasty aroma, notes of peat and strong coffee, hints of tar, dark chocolate and liquorice. Rich and full mouthfeel. Rich flavour, sweet up front, strong roasty notes, strong and bitter coffee, moderate notes of peat smoke, dry and roasty finish, long bitter aftertaste. Pretty massive stuff.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.3%. Golden colour, large white head. Lovely fruity and spicy aroma, notes of orange peel, coriander and pepper. The flavour is fresh and pleasant, with distinct citrussy and peppery notes, but I expected more bittering hops in the finish. Still a nice beer that stands out from the crowd. I don’t think the red peppercorns are too dominant.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Dark brown to ruby colour, beige head. Aroma of butterscotch, caramel and biscuits. The flavour is not too sweet, but has also notes of caramel, butterscotch and brown bread. Decent enough to drink, but does not stand out from the crowd.

620 ml green bottle, in Bali. ABV is 4.5%. Pale yellow colour, low white head. Typical green bottle "skunky" pale lager aroma, but not too bad. Some sweetish malty and grassy notes. The flavour is bland as expected, but not horrid. At least there is a hint of malts and hops, and it is not sugary sweet. Ice cold it may serve as a thirstquencher in the Indonesian heat.

330 ml can, as San Mig Light, brewed under licence by PT Delta, Indonesia. ABV is 4.9%. Clear pale yellow colour, low white head. Sweetish "industrial" aroma, notes of artificial candy. Thin and fizzy mouthfeel. Nearly void of flavour, quite dry, only a touch of sweetness in the background. One to forget.

330 ml bottle, in Bali, as Storm (Beer) Bronze Ale. ABV is 5%. I bought two bottles with slightly different labels and barcodes, but it was said to be the same beer, the brewery is just in the process of changing labels. Bronze colour, moderate white head. Moderate aroma, some malts and caramel, a hint of spruce. Medium dry flavour, light bodied, a hint of caramel, some bitterness in the finish. Not impressive.

330 ml bottle, as Storm Beer Iron Stout, in Bali. ABV is 5%. Black colour, moderate tan head. Moderate but nice roasty aroma, notes of coffee, hints of dark chocolate. Relatively light bodied. Medium dry flavour, distinct roasty notes of coffee, again with hints of dark chocolate. Fairly decent beer.

330 ml bottle, as Storm Golden Ale, in Bali. ABV is 5%. Golden colour, slightly hazy, moderate white head. Aroma initially of cooked vegetables, then some nicer notes of tropical fruits come through. The flavour has moderate notes of Styrian Goldings hops, but not nearly as distinct as in the Pale Ale. Slightly yeasty finish. Like the other beers from this brewery it has a fizzy mouthfeel. Clearly drinkable, but not exciting.

Can and bottle in Bali, as Guinness Foreign Extra, brewed in Indonesia. ABV is 4.9%. Black colour, tan head. Nice roasty aroma, coffee, caramel and palm sugar. Smooth flavour, moderate roasty notes, coffee, a slight acidity in the finish.

330 ml bottle from Hardy’s supermarket, Sanur, Bali. ABV is 5%. Hazy greyish pale yellow colour, large to moderate white head. Typical hefeweizen-aroma of cloves and over-ripe bananas, also other decaying fruits. Tolerably refreshing flavour, cloves, citrus and banana, some acidity, hardly any noticeable hops.

330 ml bottle, from Hardy’s supermarket, Sanur, Bali, Indonesia. Brown colour, huge off-white to beige head. Aroma of brown malts and brown bread, also notes of caramel, cloves and banana. The flavour is fairly refreshing, with the same notes as in the aroma, also some citrus. Slightly acidic and yeasty finish. Minimal hops.

Bottle, as Panther Fine Extra Stout, in Bali. ABV is 5%. Very dark brown colour, moderate beige head. Moderate aroma of brown malts more than dark malts, notes of mild coffee and caramel, a hint of dark fruits. Thin mouthfeel. The flavour is moderately malty with only a very moderate roastiness, notes of mild coffee again, a hint of caramel, low bitterness. Has very little to brag about. This is a weak porter more than an "extra stout".

330 ml bottle, in Bali. ABV is 5%. Golden colour, slightly hazy, moderate white head. Very nice hoppy aroma, notes of citrus, pine and tropical fruits. Relatively light bodied, but the flavour has a pleasant hoppy fruitiness throughout, tropical fruits again, moderate but sufficient bitterness. Storm’s best beer.

500 ml can, from a Bali supermarket. ABV is 5%. Golden colour, large white head. Typical industrial lager aroma, some sweetish candy notes, also strong grassy notes, hints of alcohol. The flavour is medium sweetish with tolerable malts, smooth and easy to drink. The hops are very moderate, but there are no offensive side flavours in this beer, and it is actually better than I feared.

330 ml bottle, from a Bali supermarket. ABV is 5%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Large to moderate beige head. Aroma of dark malts, mild coffee, caramel and palm sugar. The flavour is medium dry and only mildly roasty, again notes of mild coffee and dark malts, hints of caramel and palm sugar. Slightly acidic and thin finish. I cannot say that I am able to identify the ginseng.
