May 2015: 500 ml bottle, as Kloster Andechs Bergbock Hell, BB date 13.02.2014, from CITTI-Markt Flensburg. ABV is 6.9%. Pale golden colour, large white head. Moderate aroma, some sweetish grassy and floral notes. Medium sweet flavour, notes of pilsener malts and moderate herbal hops. Not bad, but not the best beer from Klosterbrauerei Andechs.

Moderate aroma of malts, a hint of caramel and prunes. Malty flavour, some caramel but not too sweet, notes of brown bread, smooth and easy drinking.

Shared bottle at local tasting, as Ebeltoft Lust for Life Session IPA. ABV was 5.5%. Hazy pale yellow colour, moderate white head. Nice aroma of fruity hops, some pine too. Medium dry flavour of fruity hops, with a piney and bitter finish. Good beer. *Bought again in Denmark. "Session IPA" is no longer part of the name, and ABV is 5.2%.

Roasty and medium sweet flavour with the same elements as the aroma, fusel is now less distinct, moderate hops. Very tasty beer.

330 ml paper-wrapped bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 5.6%. Hops not listed on the label. Amber colour, moderate head, slightly off-white. Aroma of fruity and piney hops. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour is woody / piney / resinous and quite dry. I don't get the typical characteristics of Sorachi Ace here. Not a beer I'll buy again.

(March 30, 2014) 500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark, probably at Voldby Købmandsgaard. ABV is 5.4%. BB date 20.07.13. Hazy orange colour, large white head. Smells a bit "off", sweetish notes of malts and caramel, only hints of banana and cloves. The flavour is somewhat better, malty character, not too sweet, but again the typical hefeweizen notes of "banana & cloves" are very subdued. Lacks some of the "freshness" of a better hefeweizen, Might buy a fresher bottle at another occasion, to re-rate.

Sweetish aroma of light malts, hints of hay, flowers, honey and newmown grass. The flavour is medium sweet, with floral and herbal hops, moderate bitterness.

The flavour has a slight malt sweetness, with a fairly sharp and slightly metallic and peppery bitterness in the finish.

Lovely aroma of brettanomyces, farmhouse, oak, mild spices, dry white wine, hints of yuzu. The flavour is distinctly oaky and quite dry, medium sour and spicy, some citrus, medium bitter finish.

Moderate bitterness.

Aroma of roast malts, molasses, alcohol, chocolate, vanilla, coffee and Oreo cookies. Warming mouthfeel. Very sweet flavour with the same elements as the aroma, noticeable bittering hops in the finish. Recommended for sharing.

Rich mouthfeel. Flavour of coffee on a sufficient background of malts, also distinct piney hops, hints of bitter orange marmalade, fairly bitter finish and aftertaste.

750 ml bottle, batch #15, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.3%, OG 1085, FG 1015, IBU 44. Pitch black colour (one of the darkest beers I’ve seen), large and impressive head with colour somewhere between coke grey and brown. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, leather and chocolate, mixed with acidic and "farmhouse" notes of brettanomyces. The flavour is rich and medium sweet, with some fruity acidity, but is first and foremost dominated by roasty notes of coffee, hints of dark bitter chocolate and black pepper. Great stuff.

Shared bottle at local tasting. Pitch black beer with a moderate tan head. Roasty and malty aroma and flavour, with notes of strong coffee, liquorice and dark bitter chocolate. Rich and full mouthfeel, warming, maybe a bit too much carbonation. Medium bitterness in the finish. All in all mighty impressive.
