June 2015: 750 ml bottle, as Birra del Borgo Genziana con radici, from Vinmonopolet. BB date March 2015. ABV is 6.1%. Clear deep golden colour, moderate white head. Strong sweetish malty and herbal / vegetable aroma. The flavour is also quite sugary sweet, notes of malts, caramel, herbs and vegetables (the radishes, I assume). Low bitterness. Not really my cup of tea. Drank it moderately chilled - might be more refreshing ice cold.

Shared 330 ml bottle. Hazy pinkish-peachy colour, white head. Aroma and flavour. of over-ripe raspberries, medium sweet. Not the best from Birra del Borgo.

330 ml bottle, probably from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark, or possibly CITTI-Markt, Flensburg. ABV is 7.5%. Cloudy deep golden to amber colour, huge white head. Lovely aroma of fruity hops (mainly citrus, also various tropical fruits), also some herbal notes. The flavour has a more "coarse" character, dominated by yeast, resin and pinewood. Bitter finish.

Shared 750 ml bottle. ABV is 5%. Pale golden colour, white head. Both aroma and flavour has hints of honey, but the beer is not very sweet. Also spicy saison yeast and decent bittering hops.

330 ml bottle, as Birra del Borgo 25 dodici Natale, ABV 8.0%, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Clear and deep reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma of Belgian ale yeast, mild spices, brown kandij sugar, sultanas and orange peel. Medium sweet flavour, spicy, again with notes of kandij sugar, sultanas and orange peel. Tasty.

750 ml bottle, probably from Voldby Købmandsgaard. ABV is 9.5%. Dark brown colour with floaties, moderate off-white to beige head. Pleasant aroma of malts, caramel, orange peel and raisins, hints of mild spices. Medium sweet and mildly spicy flavour, again with notes of orange peel and raisins. Very moderate hops. A quite interesting and pleasant beer, which I’ll be happy to buy again for Christmas.

750 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. Hazy golden colour, large white head. Strong sweetish aroma of American hops and carapilsener malts, notes of citrus fruit / orange marmalade. Soft mouthfeel. Sweet flavour with distinct and fruity American hops throughout. A tasty and enjoyable beer, the alcohol is not well hidden though. Medium bitter finish. Tastes more or less like an American IPA, not much "pilsener" about this one.

Dec. 2012: 750 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.4%. Amber colour, large off-white head. Lovely aroma of fruity and floral hops. The fairly sweet flavour has notes of crystal malts, balanced by pleasant fruity and slightly spicy hops. Medium bitter finish.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 5.2%. Black colour, moderate beige head. The flavour has the expected notes of roast malts, mild coffee and chocolate, but also a distinct fruitiness. The flavour is smooth, roasty and fruity, with chocolate and mild coffee again, and hints of oysters and the tellina molluscs that have been added to the boil. A very enjoyable beer, might buy again.

330 ml bottle, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 3.7%. Golden colour, moderate white head. Pleasant aroma of floral and citric hops. Light bodied as expected, but not bad for a 3.7% beer. Decent hoppy flavour with fruity and herbal notes, ending in a noticeable bitterness. Went down smoothly. Might buy again.

330 ml bottle, from Edeka Sophienhof, Kiel. ABV is 8.3%. Hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Distinct aroma of American hops, notes of grapefruit and pine, hints of caramel in the background. Citrussy flavour, grapefruit notes, some malty sweetness, some spicy and herbal notes, with resinous bittering hops in the finish.

440 ml can, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.7%. Slightly hazy golden to orange colour, large white head. Aroma of oranges and "spicy" Cryo-Pop hops, bready malts in the background. Moderately fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour is medium dry, with citric and slightly piney hops. Moderate to low bitterness. Decent beer, but not exceptional.

750 ml clear bottle, from the cidery, ABV is 5.6%. Single apple variety: Karin Schneider. Pale golden colour with a peachy hue, pours sparkling with a moderate white head that actually lasts a while. Nice aroma of Karin Schneider apples, some "spicy" notes. Flavour of medium sweet dessert apples, pleasant to drink.

330 ml can, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.7%. Slightly hazy golden colour, huge white head that takes "forever" to settle, overcarbonated. Distinct aroma of yellow plums. The flavour has some fruitiness, but first and foremost an unexpected sharp bitterness of hops and dead yeast cells throughout.

Sweet flavour (too sweet) with notes of roast malts and said adjuncts, moderate bittering hops in the finish. Would have been a better beer without the adjuncts.

Keg halfpint, as Belhaven Old Blackfriars Drookit Lager, in the Old Blackfriars pub (Belhaven) in Aberdeen. ABV is 4.0%. Golden colour, white head. Aroma and flavour of butterscotch, some bittering hops.

Cask half pint at The Grill, Aberdeen. 4.0% ABV. Deep golden to copper colour, white head. Very moderate aroma, some malts. Malty flavour, medium dry, with "dusty" and earthy hops. Fairly distinct and sharpish bittering hops in the finish.

Cask halfpint at Old Blackfriars, Aberdeen. ABV was said to be 4.0%. Golden colour, white head. Malty aroma, some toffee. The flavour is fairly dry, hints of toffee, fairly distinct bittering hops, but hardly any fruitiness.

Oct. 2019: On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Orange colour, very little carbonation. Aroma and flavour of earthy English hops. This is a classical British pale ale / bitter in my book, nothing "perfectly modern" about it. A bit more carbonation would help. Quite drinkable though.
