5784 Slaapmutske Tripel Belgium Abbey Tripel 4.2

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. Also available in Norway at Vinmonopolet. ABV is 8.1%. According to the label it is brewed by Brouwerij Slaapmutske in Melle, but bottled in Lochristi. Original gravity is 16 degrees Plato, IBU is 31. Deep golden to orange colour, slightly hazy. Huge off-white head. Lovely strong aroma of Belgian yeast, fruits and spices, hints of leather. Complex spicy flavour with some fruit in the background. Warming mouthfeel. The aftertaste could have lasted longer, but this is still a very good beer!

5785 Val-Dieu Blonde Belgium Belgian Ale 3.3

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. Also available in Norway at Vinmonopolet. ABV is 6%. Brewed in the abbey. Secondary fermentation in the bottle. Hazy golden colour, no head, minimal carbonation. The bottle cap can’t have been air tight - a part of the glass rim was missing. The aroma and flavour were okay, though. Yeasty, sweetish, fruity and spicy aroma, notes of leather and oak too. Fruity and spicy flavour, quite nice. Soft mouthfeel, due to lack of carbonation. Will need to try another bottle.

5790 Greens Endeavour Double Dark Beer Belgium Belgian Ale 2.9

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 5

This is the second gluten free beer on the Norwegian market, Glutaner (a pale lager) was the first one. Green’s Endeavour is called a "Double Dark Beer". ABV is 6%. Website www. glutenfreebeers.co.uk . Green’s is a trademark of Charles Cooper Ltd. The beer has a dark reddish brown colour and a thick and creamy tan head. Distinct sweetish aroma and flavour that remind me more of cheap fortified wines than of beer. Notes of raisins and spices. Some hops in the aftertaste. No masterpiece, but drinkable even for people who are not "forced to" drink it by coeliac disease.

5791 Silenrieux Joseph Spelt Ale Belgium Witbier 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

250 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. Also available in Norway at Vinmonopolet. ABV is 5%. This spelt beer is organic (French: "biologique")., and has had a secondary fermentation in the bottle. Very pale blonde colour, hazy. Large and fluffy white head. Yeasty, spicy (cloves a.o.) and citrussy aroma, nice. Spritzy mouthfeel. The flavour is wheaty, fairly dry, notes of citrus and pepper. Not very different from their buckwheat beer "Sara". Joseph is a decent beer, but not worth the ridiculously high price in Norway.

5797 Bryghuset Braunstein Heritage 2005 Edition Denmark Doppelbock 3.6

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

500 ml brown bottle, packed in a cardboard cylinder, like a whisky bottle. Bottle No. P 1689, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 11.8%. Very dark reddish brown colour, large tan head. Vinous sweet aroma with notes of raisins, oak, malts, molasses and caramel. The flavour is malty sweet with hints of oak and molasses, surprisingly moderate hops. Too sweet. Not that exciting. 5800 Bryghuset Braunstein BB Amber Lager Denmark Marzen / Oktoberfest 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

500 ml brown bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 5.2%. Amber colour, slightly hazy. Fizzy head, poor head retention. Nice hoppy aroma, notes of fruit and honey. Fizzy mouthfeel, which takes away some of the drinking pleasure for me. The flavour is reasonably well hopped, hints of caramel, butterscotch and yeast. Possibly a slightly infected bottle. Could have been better, could have been worse. Will try another bottle later.
