Aroma of "dusty" malts, toffee and caramel, also dark dried fruits and some vinous notes. Smooth mouthfeel. The flavour has malts, caramel and dark dried fruits, also vinous hints with oak. Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 250 ml green bottle, kindly shared by abemorsten, who brought it from Mauritius. ABV is 5.1%. Pale golden colour, low and short-lived white head. "Skunky" lightstruck Heineken-like aroma. Sweetish flavour, weak hops, but not undrinkable. Might work ice cold in the Mauritius heat. |

Moderate lemon aroma. Tastes like a lemon shandy, quite refreshing, but not much beer flavour (just a little malts in the finish). |

4285 | Valášek Citron | Czech Republic | Fruit Beer | 1.8
Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 3 1 liter brown PET bottle, kindly shared by gunnar. ABV is 4.8%. Upon opening the beer gushes out of the bottle, and continues to do so. Apparently infected. Cloudy golden colour, huge white head. Strong lemon aroma. Very lemony flavour, acidity galore, some spicy notes. Might be said to be "good" in a perverted way, but is too sour, and being obviously infected does not help much. |

4288 | De Molen Hel & Verdoemenis Misto B.A. | Netherlands | Imperial Stout | 4.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 180 ml bottle with green waxed top, kindly shared by my beerpal Ivar. ABV is 12%. Pitch black colour, no head, minimal carbonation. Lovely complex aroma, oak, roasted malts, molasses, bourbon and coffee, a touch of fusel alcohols keeps me from giving it a full score. Warming mouthfeel. Oaky flavour with roasty, bourbon and vinous notes, complex and excellent. |

4289 | Hardknott Granite 2009 | United Kingdom | Smoked Ale | 4.2
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 500 ml bottle, kindly shared by gunnar. ABV is 10.4%. Very dark ruby colour, nearly black. Fine tan head. Lovely complex aroma, vinous, smoked, burnt, malty. The flavour is very smoked, peaty, tarry and oaky, sweet and roasty. Not a classical barley wine by any stretch of the mind, more of a "smoked imperial porter" in my book. |

Refreshing wheaty flavour, banana and cloves again, not very sweet. Noticeable hops in the finish. A decent hefeweizen! |

4296 | Primátor Svetlé 10° | Czech Republic | Light / Lite Lager | 3.3
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6 500 ml bottle, as Primátor Svetlý, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4%. Pale golden colour, big white head. Typical Czech pilsener aroma of sweetish malts and grassy and floral Saaz hops, hints of honey. Light bodied of course, but very refreshing, with a better presence in the flavour of both malts and Saaz hops than you’d expect from 4% pilsener. |

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml bottle, bought at Newcastle Intl Airport. ABV is 3.5%. Copper colour, moderate off-white head. Moderate aroma with some malty and nutty notes, hints of caramel and English hops. Light bodied, as expected from a 3.5% beer, but the fairly dry flavour has some nutty malts, a slight acidity, and a distinct and slightly metallic hoppy bitterness in the finish. |

4300 | Cleveland Special K (Kate) | United Kingdom | Bitter | 3.0
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6 Cask (handpump) at the Darlington Spring Thing Beer Festival. ABV is 5.0%. Festival description: "Golden ale, an explosion of hops on the palate resulting in a satisfying zesty aftertaste." My notes: Amber colour, low head. Dry and dusty malts in the aroma. Dry flavour, nothing at all like the description. Not much of an "explosion of hops" here. Makes you wonder if they have put on the right beer ... |
