Small sample from can at Vectura-messe. Cloudy beer. Aroma and flavour of lactic acid (lots of it) and nothing else. Uninteresting. There's thirteen in a dozen of these beers nowadays. I will rerate if a get a larger sample, but only if it's for free.

500 ml bottle, batch 589, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%. Cloudy pale golden colour, large white head. Intense aroma of Citra hops, citrus and tropical fruits galore, some catty hints too. Very hoppy flavour on a slightly sweet background, notes of grapefruit and resin, hints of tropical fruits, medium bitter finish. Maybe not perfectly balanced, but a decent beer all the same.

500 ml bottle, from the brewery. ABV is 8%. Dark reddish brown colour, moderate off-white to beige head. Nice aroma of malts, brown bread, caramel and bakery. Fairly sweet flavour, notes of caramel, molasses, slightly roast malts, moderate hops. Good beer.

440 ml can, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%, IBU 10. Hops are Csacade, Citra and Mosaic. Cloudy reddish brown colour, surprisingly dark for something called a "golden ale". Moderate white head. Aroma of citrussy hops, also notes of spruce. Citric mouthfeel and flavour. Resinous hops in the finish, but the bitterness is moderate.

Original rating: 500 ml bottle, as HaandBryggeriet Dobbel Dose IPA, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Bottle conditioned, unfiltered and unpasteurised. Batch #108, brewed Nov. 07, BB Nov. 09. ABV is 8.5%. Very cloudy orange-brown colour, big off-white head. Nice hoppy aroma, notes of flowers and orange marmalade, a hint of oak too. The flavour is sweet (too sweet) and somewhat alcoholic, with a substantial dominance of hops (as expected from a Double IPA), but not quite as extreme as I feared. Bitter finish. When pouring the last sediment in the glass the beer becomes extremely muddy, but the flavour also becomes more complex and interesting.

Shared bottle at hotel room tasting, thanks to OleR. Black colour, low tan head. Moderate roasty aroma, oaky notes. Dry flavour, oaky and roasty. Decent enough, but I can’t say it is better than the "ordinary" Dark Force - on the contrary, I’d rather say.

Up to 2017: 500 ml bottle, batch #991, from Det Gode Brygg, Sandnes. ABV is 4.5%. Golden colour, moderate white head. Fairly nice aroma of German(?) and/or Czech(?) hops, grassy and herbal notes. Bland flavour, dry and "dusty", easy to forget. 2018 onwards: 440 ml can, from Bunnpris Sauda. ABV is 4.5%, IBU 10. Hops are Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe and Eukanot. Malts are pilsener, wheat and oat. Very cloudy pale yellow colour, moderate white head. Aroma of various citrus fruits and tropical fruits. Fizzy and citric mouthfeel. Flavour of fruity (citric, tropical fruits) and piney hops, the bitterness is moderate, but seems higher than 10 IBU.

Sample from can at HaandBryggeriet tasting, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.8%. Pitch black colour, small tan head. Aroma and flavour of roast malts and chocolate, hints of cherries and raspberries. Very sweet flavour, too sweet for me, really - even if this is a sipping beer and not a refreshment beer. Hints of liquorice. The flavour is also fairly alcoholic.

The flavour has also notes of mango and distinct piney / resinous hops, with a distinct bitter finish. The mango nearly drowns in the bitterness.

500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark, probably at Voldby Købmandsgaard. ABV is 5.4%. BB date 20.07.13. Hazy orange colour, large white head. Smells a bit "off", sweetish notes of malts and caramel, only hints of banana and cloves. The flavour is somewhat better, malty character, not too sweet, but again the typical hefeweizen notes of "banana & cloves" are very subdued. Lacks some of the "freshness" of a better hefeweizen, Might buy a fresher bottle at another occasion, to re-rate.

500 ml bottle, as Bristol Beer Factory Seven, from Ales by Mail. ABV is 4.5%. Clear copper colour, moderate white (or slightly off-white) head, Aroma of malts and toffee, a hint of caramel. The flavour is more dry than sweet, but has still hints of caramel sweetness. Decent English hops throughout, with earthy notes and a good bitterness.

Strong but not particularly nice aroma of passionfruit and citrus, sourish, hints of coriander. Medium sour flavour, passionfruit and citrus again, minimal coriander, no noticeable hops. Not my cup of tea.

The flavour is moderately sweet, malty and biscuity, again with notes of chocolate and vanilla. Hardly any noticeable bitterness.

Distinct and boozy aroma of roast malts, bourbon whiskey, oak, vanillin / vanilla, cocoa / chocolate, coconut and cinnamon. Moderate carbonation. Medium sweet flavour with the same elements as the aroma. Low bitterness, a bit more would be a good idea. Warming throatfeel.

Re-enter old rating that disappeared mysteriously: Had this beer in a pub just outside Glasgow Queen Street Station - I think it was cask, but might have been keg. Colour was fairly dark for a bitter, brownish. Aroma had indeed notes of "old fart" (sulphur), but the flavour was fairly malty and quite pleasant. The name probably alludes to the target group for this beer (old farts), a group I am now proud to be part of!

500 ml bottle, as Hook Norton Hooky, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 3.5%. Deep golden colour, moderate white head. Sweetish aroma of malt sugar and grassy hops. Thin mouthfeel, drier than the aroma made me expect. The flavour has some weak toffee and caramel notes, followed by a fairly distinct bitterness, but is not particularly complex. Still a drinkable "ordinary" bitter.
