Strong hoppy aroma of oranges / orange marmalade and grapefruit, hints of caramel and pine needles. The flavour is first fruity and fresh, then a ferocious attack of piney and grapefruity American "C"-hops sets in, and leaves you with a massive bitter finish - all on a background of medium sweet crystal malts.

Shared 355 ml bottle at local tasting,from Voldby Købmandsgaard. ABV is 10.0%. Slightly hazy deep golden colour. Malty aroma with oxidised notes, but also interesting vinous and oaky notes. Some vinous and oaky notes in the medium sweet flavour, acceptable hops in the finish. Slightly warming mouthfeel.

355 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgaard. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Pleasant aroma of moderately roasted malts, caramel, oats, mild coffee and woodwork, hints of chocolate and liquorice. Nice flavour too, medium dry, with the same elements as the aroma. Very moderate hops. Smooth mouthfeel.

750 ml bottle, as Founders Blushing Monk 2015, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.2%. Beautiful clear red colour, moderate pinkish-white head. Lovely and intense aroma of ripe raspberries and raspberry candy. Sweet flavour (too sweet for some, I’m sure - but not for me), raspberries and raspberry candy galore, some tart hints and very moderate bittering hops the finish. The alcohol is well hidden, dangerously drinkable. A fine dessert beer. I was about to write "the big bottle is for sharing", but then I noticed it was empty - and I’m here alone. Oh well ....

Shared 750 ml bottle at local tasting. Pitch black colour, large tan head. Interesting and delightful aroma of ripe raspberries and dark chocolate, hints of marzipan and coffee. Rich mouthfeel and flavour, raspberries and dark chocolate again, sweet but acceptable, smooth and creamy. First class!

330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.5%. Slightly hazy and very pale yellow colour, with a nearly greenish hue. Large to moderate white head. Spicy aroma with grassy and herbal hops, hints of dill and lemongrass. Effervescent mouthfeel. Spicy flavour, dill and lemongrass again, bitter hops in the finish. Warming throatfeel.

330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.5%. Hops are Saaz and Styrian Goldings, dryhopping with Mosaic. Nearly clear pale yellow colour, pours fizzy with large bubbles and a moderate coarse white head. Interesting complex aroma of fruity (tropical fruits, blueberries), grassy, herbal and spicy hops. The flavour is refreshing for a beer of this strength, is quite dry, and has moderate tropical fruits first, then distinct herbal and spicy hops throughout the finish and aftertaste.

Lovely aroma of herbal hops (Saaz, Styrian Goldings and Equinox), hints of citrus and spices. Refreshing despite its strength. Medium dry and crisp flavour, dominated by herbal and spicy hops, some alcohol. Medium bitter finish.

2021: 330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Madla. ABV is 9.5%. Clear pale golden colour, large white head. Aroma of spicy Belgian ale yeast and citrus, with a strange hint of broth. Citric mouthfeel, some warming alcohol. Flavour of spices, white kandij sugar and citrus. Bittering hops in the finish.

Very nice aroma of rich malts, brown kandij sugar, molasses and Belgian ale yeast. Malty flavour, moderate notes of kandij sugar, but not too sweet. Very moderate hops (Aalst Hallertauer).

355 ml slimline can, as Sixpoint The Crisp Pilsner, from Vinmonopolet Verksgata, Stavanger. ABV is 5.4%. Golden colour, moderate white head. Sweetish aroma, with notes of grassy and floral hops. The flavour is medium sweet, and not as crisp as the name suggests. Decent bitterness in the finish though. Okay, but hardly a beer I’ll buy again.

355 ml can, at the Granite City (JDW), Aberdeen Airport. 9.1% ABV, 103 IBU. Orange colour, moderate head, slightly off-white. Surprisingly moderate aroma of American piney and grapefruity hops. In the flavour, however, both the piney / resinous and grapefruity notes are very distinct - still the beer is reasonably well balanced, the malts are sufficient, with a certain fruity sweetness, and where I expected an unbalanced resinous hell, there is actually as much smoothness as you can expect from a 103 IBU beer. Might well buy again.

Sample from can at HaandBryggeriet tasting, Cardinal Pub & Bar. ABV is 7%. Black colour, creamy tan head. Pleasant aroma and flavour of roast malts, dark chocolate and coffee. I tend to prefer stouts where the roast malts alone deliver the coffee flavour, but here the coffee addition is moderate and well balanced. A very good stout!

Low carbonation. Sour but not extreme flavour, typical brettanomyces character. Appetizing. Original rating: Shared bottle at hotel room tasting, thanks to OleR. Hazy deep golden to orange colour. Fresh and vinegary / lemony aroma, notes of brettanomyces, farmhouse and fruit. Medium sour flavour, brett notes. Better than I feared.

Nice aroma of American hops (Citra and Mosaic), notes of citrus and tropical fruits, a hint of spruce, also banana and cloves. Light bodied. Dry and citric flavour, banana and cloves again, a hint of sprucetips, low but noticeable bitterness. Refreshing and enjoyable.

440 ml can, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%, IBU 10. Hops are Citra and Mosaic. Cloudy straw colour, moderate white head. Hoppy aroma of citrus, pine and spruce. Light bodied. Pine needles, sprucetips and grapefruit in the medium dry flavour, more resinous bitterness than expected from alleged 10 IBU. Not bad, but there are many competitors in this field.
