750 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. "French Style Stock Ale - Ale Aged in Oak Barrels". ABV is 7%. Hazy amber to brownish colour, large off-white head. Strong aroma of farmhouse. horse blanket, lemons, oak and apple cider vinegar. Medium sour flavour with lemony and oaky notes, fairly distinct and peppery hops in the finish. "Beware the ides of March!"

330 ml bottle, lot #235, Cardinal Pub, Stavanger. ABV is 8.0%. Hazy dark brown colour, large to moderate off-white to beige head. Strong aroma of brown malts, caramel, brown bread and burnt breadcrumbs. Well balanced flavour, notes of brown malts, nuts, caramel and moderate hops, also fruity hints of kveik and prunes.

500 ml can, as Lervig & Bin Day Shuffleboard Mexican Rice Lager, Cardinal Pub, Stavanger. ABV is 5.3%. Slightly hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Sweetish aroma of malts, maize and floral hops. The flavour is drier and crisper than the aroma made me expect, and fairly refreshing. Moderate malts, rice and maize, with moderate herbal and "spicy" hops.

440 ml can, Cardinal Pub, Stavanger. ABV is 6.8%. Cloudy pale yellow colour, moderate to low white head. Fairly nice aroma of crushed green gooseberries, lemon rind and spicy hops. Sour flavour of lactic acid, unripe green gooseberries, lemon juice and lemon rind. Low bitterness. Quite refreshing.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 6.5%. Moderately hazy reddish brown colour, minimal and shortlived head. Fairly nice aroma of smoked malts, caramel, brown bread and juniper branches. Flavour of smoked malts and juniper, not very sweet.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 6.5%. Deep golden to orange colour, only slightly hazy. Moderate white head. Aroma of orange marmalade and floral hops, hints of pine. The flavour is fairly dry, but has a sufficient malt base to support the Seville orangey, grapefruity and piney hops and the distinctly bitter finish / aftertaste.

Bottle, shared by my beerpal Olav (bought at the brewery). ABV is 7.0%. Deep golden to orange colour, large white head. Nice aroma of American hops, strong notes of spruce. Very hoppy and bitter flavour. Some sweetness, but the bitterness is still overwhelming. Not Port Brewing’s best.

12.7 ounces corked and caged bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.0%. Hazy reddish-brown colour, moderate off-white head. INTENSE aroma of ripe and over-ripe raspberries, some spicy notes too. Strong sour / acidic flavour with loads of raspberries, also notes of lemons. If this is what you like, that’s what you get.

375 ml bottle, waxed top (black metallic wax), Cardinal Pub, Stavanger. ABV is 13.3%. Pitch black colour, moderate to small tan head. Aroma of molasses, dark malts, oak, maple syrup, vanilla, dark rum and bourbon. Rich and warming mouthfeel, low carbonation. Very sweet and rich flavour with the same elements as the aroma, Dessert in a bottle!

330 ml ordinary capped bottle in an oversized metal cylinder with a wooden lid - apparently you pay for more than the beer here. Batch #2466, bottle #11090 out of 15500. ABV is 16%, IBU 100. Purchased at Vinmonopolet Herbarium. Pitch black colour, moderate to small tan head. Strong aroma of coffee, molasses, brown sugars and dark malts. Rich and warming mouthfeel. Very sweet flavour, to some degree balanced by distinct bittering hops, and otherwise the same elements as the aroma. Also hints of chocolate and liquorice.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 7.4%. Moderately hazy deep golden to orange colour, huge white head. Moderate aroma, malts and a little fruitiness, hints of malt vinegar. The flavour is more malty than hoppy, with a slight vinegary acidity (probably not intended) - fair enough to drink, but quite different from the commercial description.

On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Peachy to pinkish colour. Aroma and flavour of tayberries, the rosehips are very subdued. Medium sour, some lemon, tart, astringent finish. Must be good with a dish of fried or grilled salmon.

The flavour is medium sweet, with the same elements as the aroma, and a slightly salty finish. Moderate hops, a little more bittering hops would not hurt. A fine beer as it is, though.

375 ml lilac waxed bottle, batch #1529, Cardinal Pub, Stavanger. ABV is 13.2%. Black colour, large to moderate tan head. Aroma of oak, molasses, dark rum, coconut, vanilla, chocolate and dark malts. Rich and warming mouthfeel. Very sweet flavour, with the same elements as the aroma, low bitterness. Probably good for cellaring for many more years.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet Herbarium. Rye DIPA, ABV is 8.1%. Murky orange to brown colour, LOADS of yeast and protein floaties in the glass, looks awful. Small head, slightly off-white. Aroma of American West Coast hops, notes of orange marmalade and pine, hints of rye bread. The medium sweet flavour is malty with hints of rye bread again, also notes of piney and grapefruity hops, but the bitterness is moderate.

Shared 500 ml bottle, from Donslund Vine, as Novopacké pivo Granát, at local tasting. ABV is 5.0%. Dark reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma of caramel malts and brown bread. Nice flavour, not too sweet, malty and mildly roasty notes, dark brown bread, chocolate and a hint of mild coffee. Very drinkable.
