Oct. 2016: 650 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.7%. Dark brown colour, large beige head. Aroma of rich malts and fruity and earthy hops. Medium sweet flavour, malty first, followed by fruity hops and a very resinous and earthy massive bitterness.

330 ml clear bottle, brought home from Turkey by my wife. ABV is 6.1%. Dark reddish brown colour, big greyish beige head. Smells "thin" and metallic, also notes of cooked vegetables and wet cardboard. The flavour is first tolerably malty with notes of brown bread and some caramel, without being very sweet. Some fruity acidity in the middle. Dull finish, minimal hops. Clearly drinkable, but boring. Don’t expect to find anything much better than this in Turkey, though.

500 ml brown bottle, Fiçi Bira, special design. ABV is 5%. Shared with my beerpal Olav who bought it in Turkey, thx! Golden colour, moderate white head. Initially a whiff of standard pilsener aroma with some hops, then a very moderate sweetish aroma with notes of malts and maize. Standard pilsener flavour, no offensive sidenotes (unlike other Efes beers), moderate hops.

(330 ml bottle). Very pale yellow colour, decent head. Sweet fruity aroma. Flavour is, uh, thin... some alcoholic/fusel notes, like Norwegian "hjemmebrent" (="moonshine"). Might be drinkable ice cold at the beach of Antalya. Anywhere else: Avoid!

750 ml clear ’champagne’ bottle, bought at Centra, Oslo. Made from the Aroma apple variety, vintage 2007, bottle #2494. ABV is 4.7%. Extremely pale yellow colour with a greenish hue. Pours heavily sparkling with a shortlived head. Carbonation in the glass subsides rapidly. Aroma and flavour of sweet apples, sulphur and cheap white wine. Fairly thin mouthfeel, sugary finish. They have probably used ’yeast stopper’ and sulphur here to terminate the fermentation prematurely, in order to keep the ABV below the Norwegian ’grocery store limit’ (less than 4.75%). I am not a big fan of this one. Won’t buy again.

750 ml clear "champagne" bottle, made of Aroma apples, vintage 2008. Bottle No. 124, bought at Vinmonopolet. ABV is 11%. Golden colour, pours very fizzy with a huge white head that lasts longer than normal for a cider. Aroma of oxidised eating apples (which indeed the Aroma apple variety is), hints of sulphur. The flavour is more tart than I expected, especially in the finish. Oxidised apples again with hints of sulphur, medium sweetness.

750 ml clear corked bottle. Bottle No.3685, made of the Aroma apple variety 2010. A little sediment in the bottle. This is supposed to be a still cider, but it pours fizzy with a white head - so they have either mislabelled the bottle, or an unintended secondary fermentation has taken place in the bottle. ABV is 7%. Clear and very pale yellow colour. Moderate carbonation in the mouth. Moderate dryish aroma of apples. Fairly dry and crisp flavour, despite being made of sweet eating apples. Pleasant enough to drink, but no real depth or character.

Bottle, kindly shared by gunnar. Very dark brown colour, moderate beige head. The aroma has notes of brown bread, some caramel and smoked meat. The flavour has notes of smoked meat, malts and brown bread, a little hops in the finish.

330 ml bottle, now available in Norway. Golden colour, large to moderate head. Strong flowery aroma with notes of honey and butterscotch. Made with "modified hops and hop extract", hmmm .... Clean pilsener flavour with flowery elements and a respectable hoppy bitterness. A solid pilsener in my book.

September 2019: 330 ml can, from Vinmonopolet Kvadrat. ABV is 5.4%. Beautiful and clear reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma of malts, caramel and mild Christmas spices. Malty flavour with the same elements, not too sweet, moderate hops. Pleasant to drink. Better than expected.

500 ml can, from Rúsan, Tórshavn. ABV is 4.4%. Golden colour, moderate white head. Weak aroma, grainy and dusty, just a faint hint of fruit. Fizzy mouthfeel. Bland flavour, grainy and dusty again, very dry, minimal hops, not good at all.

500 ml can, from Helgø Meny Kvadrat. Cola colour, large to moderate beige head. Aroma of malts, caramel and pumpernickel bread. Very sweet flavour with loads of malt sugar and caramel, also notes of pumpernickel and liquorice. Low bitterness.

500 ml can, as Egils Premium Export, from Rúsan, Tórshavn. ABV is 5.7%. Pale golden colour, large white head. Moderate sweetish "industrial" aroma, hints of wet cardboard. The flavour is first medium sweet, some acidic fruity notes, hints of cardboard again, some bitterness in the dry and dusty finish. No masterpiece this one.

750 ml dark brown bottle, vintage 2023, from the cidery. ABV is 6%. Golden to orange colour, slightly hazy. Pours sparkling with a moderate and shortlived white head. Aroma of apples, yellow plums and meadowsweet. Dry flavour of meadowsweet and apples, hints of yellow plums in the background.

750 ml bottle, from the cidery. ABV is 6.0%. Slightly hazy pale straw colour, pours moderately sparkling with a moderate white head. Aroma of apples and rose petals, a hint of pears. Mild and medium dry flavour of apples, hints of rose petals, gooseberries, lychee and pears.

375 ml slimline bottle, vintage 2022, bought at the cidery. ABV is 10%. Apple variety is Aroma. Clear and deep golden colour, no carbonation. Aroma of concentrated apple juice, oak and sulphites. Very sweet and intense flavour, with the same elements. Excellent stuff.

750 ml bottle, vintage 2022, from the cidery. ABV is 5.5%. No sulphites. Slightly hazy pale straw colour, pours vigorously sparkling with a shortlived white head. Fresh aroma of Discovery apples. Light bodied. Dry flavour, some fruity acidity from the apples, some spicy hints.

500 ml bottle, bought at KaDeWe, Berlin. dark brown colour, nearly black. Large and lasting greyish brown head. Moderate malty aroma with notes of caramel and bakery, hints of prunes. Moderate carbonation, mellow and pleasant mouthfeel. Nice moderately malty flavour with a pleasant roastiness, hints of schwarzbrot. Easy drinking. I like it.

330 ml clear bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 6.5%. Hazy yellow colour, small and shortlived white head. Aroma of lactic acid and lemons, a hint of smoke. Extremely sour flavour, nearly undrinkable, lactic acid and lemons galore, also some misplaced notes of smoke. Won't buy again.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 7.7%. Clear and deep reddish brown colour, small and short-lived off-white head. Aroma of lactic acid and vinegar, notes of blackcurrants and oak. Like all beers I've had from this brewery, the flavour is way too sour, with lactic acid and vinegar galore, but at least there is some complexity here. Distinct notes of oak and blackcurrants.

330 ml bottle, batch f101p6, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 6.6%. Golden colour, small white head. Aroma of lactic acid, lemons, rhubarb and sea water. The flavour is ridiculously sour, lactic acid galore, nearly undrinkable, extremely sour lemons, difficult to point out the rhubarb, it is all just a sour mess. And there is way too much salt in this mess. Won't buy again, that's for sure.

330 ml clear bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 5%. Hazy pink colour, small off-white head, poor retention. Aroma of lactic acid and over-ripe raspberries. Very sour flavour, loads of lactic acid, way too sour, unbalanced. Notes of over-ripe raspberries again. Another totally unbalanced beer from Norway's most overrated brewery.

330 ml clear bottle, from Vinmonopolet Sauda, shared with my son. ABV is 5%. Moderately hazy sharp red colour, moderate pink head. The aroma has loads of lactic acid, sour cherries and cherry kernels / marzipan. Very sour flavour, loads of lactic acid again, hints of lemons, but also distinct notes of sour cherries.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 5.2%. Hazy pink to purple colour, moderate off-white pinkish head that's there and gone in seconds. Aroma of lactic acid and over-ripe red berries, esp. raspberries, hints of stale saltwater ponds. The flavour is way too sour, lactic acid galore, over-ripe and unfresh raspberries, some salt. Nearly undrinkable, drainpour for me.

330 ml clear bottle, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 7.2%. Reddish brown colour, large to moderate off-white head. Aroma of vinegar, lactic acid, sour berries, lemons and caraway. Very acidic flavour, lactic acid and vinegar galore, also lemons, berries and caraway. The extreme acidity makes it undrinkable for me.
