1776 | Dalane Brygghus Sommerøl | Norway | American Pale Ale | 4.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 500 ml bottle, at Gladmatfestivalen 2008, Stavanger (where it also was available on tap). Served too cold. Unlike other Norwegian "sommerøl", which are crappy pale lagers, this one is an ale of respectable quality. Ingredients include some wheat malts. Orange colour, hazy, with a thick and lasting head. Nice hoppy aroma and flavour, fruity / citrussy notes, maybe some spruce too. Refreshing and very good. |

1777 | Dalane Brygghus Sterk Juletradisjon | Norway | Spiced Beer | 1.8
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Ingredients include wheat malts, honey and sugar. ABV is 7.6%. Hazy deep brown colour, moderate off-white head. Intense and unpleasant aroma of artificially flavoured sweets/candy, rotten fruits (incl. bananas) and monkey turd, hints of spices. The flavour is sugary sweet, again with notes of artificially flavoured candy, also oranges and anise - and, to be fair, some malts. Astonishingly bad. |

The flavour has notes of citric hops, with a fairly bitter and slightly metallic finish. Lacks a backbone of malts. |

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml bottle, from Bier Huis, Ossett. ABV is 4.5%. Clear deep golden colour, small white head. 1783 | Daleside Monkey Wrench Strong Ale | United Kingdom | English Strong Ale | 4.1
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 500 ml bottle, bought in Scarborough. Possibly filtered, but probably not pasteurised. ABV is 5.3%. As a cask ale it was voted "Champion Winter Beer of Britain 1998". Chestnut coloured beer, rich off-white to beige head. Very nice malty aroma with oaky and vinous notes, also caramel and dark fruits. Malty flavour with caramel, some raisiny and vinous notes, moderate hops. Moderate carbonation, soft mouthfeel. A pleasant beer to drink. |

1784 | Daleside Morocco Ale | United Kingdom | Spiced Beer | 3.8
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8 500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgaard. ABV is 5.5%. Deep brown colour, large to moderate beige head. Unusual and interesting spicy and malty aroma, also notes of brown bread and caramel. The flavour is is also distinctly malty, medium sweet with some caramel, and a combination of exotic and "dusty" spices and hops that I’ve had in no other beer. More of a beer I’d like to have on a dark autumn night than on this hot summer’s day. |

1785 | Daleside Santas Progress | United Kingdom | Bitter | 2.2
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 Cask pint at Wetherspoons, London Victoria Station. Cloudy orange-brownish colour, low off-white head. Very moderate aroma, a little malts, a hint of butter. Minimal carbonation, poor condition. Initially dull flavour, quite dry. Some earthy hops in the finish cannot save the beer from falling in the "boring" category. Daleside can do better than this - and JDW should serve their beers in better condition. Could not finish the pint. |

1787 | Damm Lemon | Spain | Fruit Beer | 2.8
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 330 ml green bottle, as Damm Lemon 6-4 Cerveza & Limón, from ICA Kilden. ABV is 3.2%. Milky yellow (nearly more white than yellow), large white head. Strong aroma of lemon juice, which I like. The flavour is a blend of uninteresting pale lager and tolerably refreshing lemon juice. It is not as sugary as I feared, and may serve its purpose as a "beer" alternative for people who really don’t like beer. |

1788 | Dancing Duck Ay Up / Ey Up | United Kingdom | Blonde Ale | 2.5
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 Cask (hand pump) at the Darlington Spring Thing Beer Festival. ABV is 3.9%. Pale golden colour, low head. The aroma is moderate with some citrus. "Dusty" and unpleasant flavour, a little citrussy hop is not enough to save this beer. Fail. |

1791 | Danevang Hvedeøl | Denmark | Witbier | 3.7
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, from BilkaToGo, Skalborg. ABV is 4.8%. Slightly hazy pale straw colour, moderate white head. Distinct aroma of banana and cloves. The flavour has also banana and cloves, and some citrus. This must have been intended as a Hefeweizen, not a witbier? But coriander and orange peel are on the ingredients list. |

Moderate and dull aroma, "dusty" notes, only a hint of citric hops. Light bodied, fizzy mouthfeel. Slightly citric flavour, but hardly an IPA by any stretch of the mind. |

1795 | Dansk Mjød Old Danish Beer | Denmark | Mead | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 Oct. 2014: Shared 750 ml corked and caged bottle at local tasting, from the museum shop at Koldinghus castle. Deep amber colour, white head. Nice aroma of honey, sweet malts and mild spices. Sweet flavour, loads of honey, malts and spices. This is, after all, a beer with mead added - not a mead with beer added. |

1797 | Darguner Pilsener | Germany | Pale Lager | 1.9
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 4 500 ml bottle, bought in a NETTO store, Denmark. Very pale golden colour, large head. This is a reinheitsgebot beer, but the aroma still has strong elements of maize/corn-like sweetness, notes of boiled vegetables, honey and a flower bouquet on its way to the dustbin. Flavour is dominated by over-cooked vegetables and corn, far too sweet for a pilsener, lacks completely the freshness and crispness a good pils should have. A harsh bitterness in the finish does not help much. Disappointing, but I guess that’s what you should expect when crap brewers Harboe own the brewery. |

1799 | Dark Horse Sapient Trip Ale | United States | Abbey Tripel | 3.6
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7 12 fl. oz. bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is not mentioned on the label. Murky brownish colour, moderate to low white head. Strong sweetish aroma with notes of white candi sugar; Belgian ale yeast and various spices. Moderate carbonation in the glass, but enough to make the beer fresh and pleasant to drink. The flavour is not as sweet as the aroma made me fear, the sweetness is actually well balanced with a fine spiciness and distinct hops in the finish. Nice one! |
