Smooth and easy drinking, just enough hops and malts to make it a little better than "flavourless". Unpleasant metallic bitterness in the aftertaste.

330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.6%, 40 IBU. Hops are Cascade, Citra, Simcoe and Amarillo. Reddish brown colour, small off-white head. Aroma of fruity and piney American hops, also hints of brown bread, caramel malts and chocolate malts. Slightly dry flavour of lightly roasted malts, chocolate, roasted nuts, brown bread and fruity and piney hops.

Moderate but nice aroma of candi sugar, malts, caramel and spices. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour is malty with notes of brown sugar, dried dark fruits and moderate spices. Not too sweet. The finish has noticeable hops and is slightly woody. OKish.

Strong and pleasant aroma of spices, Belgian yeast and fruit (cider apples, oranges). Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour is fairly sweet with notes of spices, white candi sugar, yeast and some fruit, noticeable hops in the finish.

330 ml bottle, London. Pale golden sparkling beer, poor head. Moderate hops and grass in the aroma. A tolerable amount of hops in the flavour makes this beer A LITTLE better than the average swill lager. Won’t buy again, though. I you want a good NZ lager, look for Emersons in stead!

330 ml fancy & slim dark green bottle, as St. Paul Speciale, now available in Norway (Vinmonopolet). ABV is 5.5%. Brown to amber coloured beer, huge beige head. Nice fruity and yeasty aroma, notes of cloves and other spices. Pleasant flavour, spicy and moderately oaky, notes of malts and caramel too. Not too sweet. Very moderate hops. The mouthfeel is maybe a bit thin, particularly in the finish. Not extreme in any way, but a quite enjoyable Belgian.

Pleasant aroma of citrus, melon, mango, papaya and guava. Nice flavour with notes of said fruits, also a pleasant hop burn, and a moderate bitterness in the finish.

The flavour is sweet, with noticeable alcohol, notes of citrus, tropical fruits and pine. Okay, but Amazing Haze is a better choice IMO.

May 2012: Sample at Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Golden colour. Nice aroma of tropical fruits and saison yeast. Tropical fruits in the flavour too, also notes of coriander. Good beer.

July 2016: RBESG 2016 in Barcelona. On tap at the Garage. Black colour. Very malty aroma and flavour, a bit unfresh, too moderate hops. Not much smoke though. Did not blow my socks off this one.

March 2017: 355 ml can, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 6%. Cloudy golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of tropical fruits. The flavour is first citrussy, then notes of tropical fruits, before it ends in a distinct bitterness. Slightly sour overall.

Shared 750 ml bottle, at Håndverkerstuene, Oslo. ABV 6.8%. Hazy deep golden colour, moderate white head. Strong spicy aroma, also farmhouse notes, hints of oaked cider. Spicy and fruity flavour, some acidity but not unpleasant. Decent hops. A good and interesting beer.

(500 ml can, in Sweden). Golden colour, good thick head. Sweet candy aroma. Flavour is sweet and alcoholic, but not as cloying and disgusting as some other Swedish lagers of this strength. Slightly lighter and fresher than the most horrific specimens of this style. At least I was able to finish this one. No reason to keep a festival for it, though.

Sampled RBESG 2006 Grand Tasting, 44 cl can. Brewed in Stara Zagora. The brewery is now owned by Heineken. Reddish brown colour. Sweetish malty aroma, kind of sickly. Flavour is also (too) malty sweet, moderately roasty, one-dimensional.
