January 2021: 750 ml clear bottle, vintage 2018, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 9.5%. Pale golden colour, pours sparkling with a large but shortlived head. Nice aroma of apples and plums. Crisp and medium dry flavour, nice fruity acidity, notes of apples and plums.

330 ml can, from Vinmonopolet Jørpeland. ABV is 5.5%. Slightly hazy golden colour, large to moderate white head. Aroma of malts, grain, stale jam, popcorn and butter. Flavour with the same elements, a moderate bitterness in the finish. Not something I'll buy again.

Shared 500 ml bottle. Cloudy golden colour, white head. Yeasty aroma, notes of citrus, banana and cloves. Distinct flavour of citrus, very refreshing. Noticeable hops in the finish.

330 ml can, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4.7%. Brewed at Arendals Bryggeri. Slightly hazy golden to orange colour, moderate white head. Decent hoppy aroma, notes of Seville oranges and dried apricots, some pine too. Flavour of bitter oranges, grapefruit and pine needles.

440 ml can, as SOMA Two Left Hands IPA, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 6%. Milky / murky / opaque pale yellow colour, moderate white head. Aroma of citrus, apricots and tropical fruits, hints of spruce. Relatively light bodied. Flavour of pine needles, citrus / grapefruit and apricots. Medium bitter finish.

Sampled bottle, RBNAG 2007 in Grimstad. ABV was 7.7%. Brewed with edible flowers. Golden colour. Unusual aroma of various flowers and herbs + honey and oak. Herbal and very sweet flavour with notes of tobacco. A bit "too special" for me.

Bottle, labelled "Imperial Porter". Is this really the same beer? RBESG 2005, Grand Tasting. Pleasant sweet malty and roasty aroma with notes of chocolate and molasses. Flavour is malty sweet with chocolatey and oaky notes. Aftertaste is malty sweet and fairly unremarkable. Strangely sweet for a porter, but no doubt a craft beer.

355 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar,Stavanger. ABV is 8.2%. Golden colour, moderate white head. Nice aroma of citrussy American hops. Distinct flavour of citrussy and resinous American hops, fairly dry. Light bodied for its strength. Dangerously drinkable. Oh dear, was the bottle empty already?

650 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.0%. Copper coloured beer, big to moderate off-white head. Lovely aroma of fruity and piney American hops, some sweetish malty notes too, but not too much. Rich flavour of copious amounts of American hops and sweet malts, nicely balanced. Some vinous notes, also resin, caramel, oak and dark dried fruits. Definitely one of the better barleywines I’ve had.

On tap at Schouskjelleren, Oslo. Pale golden colour, moderate white head, nice lacing. Very moderate aroma, some fruit, hints of honey. Soft mouthfeel. Pleasant smooth flavour of fruity hops, a moderate grapefruity bitterness in the finish. Easy drinking and refreshing.

650 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 11.0%. Pitch black colour, moderate creamy tan head. Intense aroma of cocoa / chocolate. The flavour has also loads of chocolate and cocoa, but the sweetness is not too extreme. Also some roasted coffee notes. A moderate hoppy bitterness in the finish (Chinook and Willamette) balances some of the chocolate sweetness. Very drinkable for an 11% beer. I had no problem finishing the bottle - but if you hate chocolate, this is clearly not a beer for you.

650 ml bottle, as Southern Tier Imperial Crème Brûlée Stout, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.0%. Pitch black colour, big tan head. Intense aroma of crème brûlée and vanilla from the moment you open the bottle, amazing! The smell includes caramel, of course - but also chocolate and mild coffee. The sweet flavour is first and foremost crème brûlée again, but also roasty notes of strong coffee, dark bitter chocolate and liquorice. Also some hoppy bitterness in the finish. Warming mouthfeel. An incredible dessert beer!

Kettle hops are Magnum and Mount Hood, dry hops are Santium, Sterling and Mount Hood. Golden colour, big white head. Strong and delightful aroma of American hops, also notes of orange marmalade. The flavour is very hoppy but not extreme, with hints of pine needles, on a background of sweet malts with hints of orange marmalade and some caramel. Alcohol is noticeable, but not dominant. A good lager, but I can’t help thinking that it would taste even better if it were an ale ...

Strong aroma of American hops, fruity and resinous notes, sweetish malts in the background, hints of marmalade and caramel. The flavour is first very sweet, followed by a massive assault of American hops, with a distinct grapefruity and resinous bitterness throughout.

650 ml bottle, as Southern Tier Imperial Mokah, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 11.0%. Pitch black colour, moderate to low tan head. Lovely strong aroma of predominant chocolate, also notes of vanilla and coffee. The flavour has loads of dark chocolate, vanilla and strong coffee, with bitter hops (Columbus and Chinook) in the finish. Extremely powerful stuff.

Bottle, kindly shared by gunnar. Dark brown colour, nearly black. Low beige head. Nice aroma of moderately roasted malts, tobacco and some citrus. Flavour also of moderately roasted malts, and fruity and slightly resinous hops. The alcohol is well hidden. Good, but does not blow my socks off.

Bottle, 11% ABV, as Southern Tier Oak Aged Un*Earthly India Pale Ale, RBNAG 2009 in Vatlandsvåg. Deep golden colour. Intense aroma of alcohol, American hops, oak and malt sugar. The flavour is too sweet and alcoholic with loads of American hops, notes of oak too. Overkill.

12 fl. oz bottle, thanks to BA richgo6. Clear deep golden colour, decent head. Lovely aroma of Cascade and Styrian Goldings. The flavour is also very hoppy, a tad too sweet, a hint of orange marmelade, with some "raw" alcoholic notes. Not bad though.

355 ml bottle, as Southern Tier Porter Dark, at Plan B, Copenhagen. Black colour, huge beige head. Lovely vinous and fruity aroma, notes of American hops and orange maramalade. The roasty notes are very subdued. The flavour is very moderately roasty, notes of chocolate and moderate American hops, not very sweet. Decent beer.

Kettle hops are Chinook and Cascade, dry hopped with Cascade, Centennial and Chinook. Orange to amber colour, big off-white head. Aroma of resinous American hops, also hints of stale orange marmalade. The medium sweet flavour is intensely hoppy throughout, bordering on "too much", piney and resinous notes. Some notes of old orange marmalade and caramel too. Not for the faint of heart.
