Soft mouthfeel. The flavour is bland and fairly uninteresting, but not undrinkable. Hints of over-cooked vegetables again.

November 2016: Shared 500 ml can at local tasting. Dark ruby colour, off-white to beige head. Moderate malty aroma, bready notes. Distinctly malty flavour, notes of brown bread and caramel. Not too sweet, minimal hops as expected.

Pleasant aroma of cider apples and dessert apples, hints of oak and sulphites. The flavour is mid between dry and sweet, with the same elements as the aroma.

Pleasant aroma of cider apples and dessert apples, hints of oak and sulphites. Slightly sweet flavour of apples, oak and sulphites.

Moderately hazy golden colour, pours vigorously sparkling with a large white head that actually lasts a while. Pleasant aroma of cider apples, a hint of oak and sulphites. Medium sweet flavour of apples and oak, a hint of sulphites again. A very good cider.

500 ml can, in Coop Obs hypermarkets, Norway. ABV is 4.7%. The design of the the can reveals that this is another tasteless plale lager aimed at young people. Extremely pale straw colour, moderate white head. Sweetish, grassy and grainy aroma. The flavour is medium sweet, with an otherwise very thin body, weak metallic hop extract in the finish. Pretty bad, but not totally undrinkable when cold.

Bottle, RBESG 2005, Grand Tasting. Hazy golden colour. Pleasant fruity sweet aroma , strong notes of pineapples and papaya. Yeasty flavour, some hefeweizen characteristics, quite light-bodied and refreshing.

Very nice aroma of banana and spices (cloves, coriander e.a.), candisugar and Belgian yeast. The flavour is fairly sweet (maybe too much), fruity, spicy and yeasty. Moderate hops in the finish.

500 ml bottle, as Kloster Scheyern Kloster-Export Dunkel, bought at Rewe Getränkemarkt, Erding. ABV is 5.4%. Mahogany coloured beer, moderate off-white to beige head. Moderate aroma of brown bread. The flavour is moderately malty with notes of caramel and brown bread, but it is not too sweet. Just enough hops to make this a fairly well-balanced and drinkable dunkel.

500 ml swingtop bottle, under its alias "Das Echte Altbayreuther Braunbier", bought at KaDeWe, Berlin. Reddish brown colour, large and lasting off-white head. Rye bread / bakery aroma, notes of lightly roasted malts and caramel too. Mouthfeel is surprisingly watery, flavour is rather bland and bready, lightly roasted malts with minimal hops. Slightly sourish finish. By all means a drinkable beer, but I expected more flavour than this.

Bottle, as Schlafly Reserve (Ale aged on oak) Barleywine Style Ale 2008, ABV 10.2%, at RBNAG 2009 in Vatlandsvåg. Orange to amber colour, low head. Aroma of alcohol and oak, some American hops and caramel too. The flavour is very oaky and alcoholic, notes of vanilla and coconut.

330 ml bottle, from Systembolaget, shared in Oslo by my son Steinar. Deep golden colour, white head. Decent aroma and flavour of malts and herbal German hops, nice balance. Will buy again if this beer is introduced at Vinmonopolet.

Jan. 2018: 330 ml swingtop bottle, from El Corte Ingles. Santa Cruz de Tenerife. ABV is 5.6%. Clear deep golden colour, moderate white head. Malty and grainy aroma with hints of caramel, also notes of herbal German hops. Soft mouthfeel. The flavour is first citrussy and refreshing, then malty, grainy and dusty, ending dry with moderate hops.

(Bottled 2003). Deep golden/amber colour, moderate head. Aroma of sugary alcohol and hay. Grossly over-hyped and over-rated beer, mostly by people obviously fascinated by the high ABV. Sorry, I have difficulties respecting the ratings of people who actually LIKE this crap. Flavour is cloyingly & revoltingly sweet, alcohol, molasses, syrup, syrup and more syrup. And alcohol. Did I mention syrup? And alcohol? This is gross. This is REALLY gross. Half of it went down the drain. And I paid nearly US$10 (in Norway) for this bottle! (Sob!) Cellaring it for 30 years might have helped A LITTLE, but why cellar crap? A real drainpour, if I ever saw one. Thank God I drank it in November - "Samichlaus" would have ruined my Christmas completely.

500 ml brown PET-bottle, a gift from Germany. It is "Gebraut und abgefüllt in Deutschland" - "Exclusively for Plus" (a German supermarket chain?), "By: HGI Hanseatische Getränke-Industrie GmbH, 22755 Hamburg". ABV is 4.9%. Pale golden colour, large head. Sweetish fruity aroma, not bad. The flavour is rather moderately hopped for a German pils, there is a very moderate sweetness in the background. Not a great pils by any means, but not repulsive either. At least it is "Reinheitsgebot" ... I guess this is pretty much what you can expect from German contract brewed supermarket discount pilseners.

500 ml bottle, as Schlossbrauerei Grünbach Greabecker Urweisse Hell, bought at Rewe Getränkemarkt, Erding. ABV is 5.3%. Cloudy brownish-yellow colour, huge and lasting white head. Strong typical hefeweizen aroma of banana and cloves, also other undefined spices. The flavour has moderate notes of banana and stronger notes of cloves / other spices, but is drier than many other hefeweizens, and the moderate hops in the finish are actually noticeable. A bit too much carbonation in the mouth for my taste, but otherwise a nice h.w.

On tap, or possibly the glass was poured from bottle, as Mariabrunner Dunkel, at the Brauerei-Gasthof zur Post, Erding. Very dark brown to ruby colour, moderate off-white head. Pleasant malty aroma with notes of dark bread and caramel. The flavour has distinct notes of dark münchener malts and caramel, also notes of brown bread. Minimal hops. A decent dunkel.

Distinct aroma of lactic acid and citrus zest, hints of ginger and chili. Extremely sour flavour of lactic acid, citrus zest in the background, followed by a vehement burn of habanero chilies and ginger. Sweet Jebus - what a mess!

330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub, Stavanger. ABV is 3.5%. Hazy pale yellow colour, some floaties. Moderate white head. Sickly aroma of lactic acid and yeast. Thin body. Extremely sour flavour, loads of lactic acid, nothing else. Not a beer for me - undrinkable.
