May 2013: 500 ml bottle, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4%. Deep golden to amber colour, large white head. Strong aroma of American hops, citrus and pine notes. Light to thin body, dry flavour, some grapefruity and piney notes, medium bitter finish. An okay summer refreshment, but clearly not Ægir’s best beer.

Aroma of malts and molasses, hints of oak and caramel. Rich and warming mouthfeel. The flavour has the same elements as the aroma, also pleasant notes of dark dried fruits, and unexpectedly distinct bittering hops.

Rich and malty flavour with plenty of caramel and Christmas spices, sweet but not too much, moderate bittering hops.

Medium sweet flavour of malts, caramel, dark dried fruits and surprisingly decent bittering hops, hints of Christmas spices.

November 2019: 330 ml can, from Helgø Meny Tasta Senter. ABV is 4.7%. Very pale straw colour, slightly hazy. Large white head. Strong aroma of floral hops, hints of citrus, wheat and honey. Citric and wheaty flavour, very refreshing. Moderate but noticeable hops.

440 ml can, from SPAR Jørpeland. ABV is 4.7%. Clear golden colour, large white head. Sweetish aroma of pilsener malts, hints of sweat and honey. The flavour is a bit on the sweet side, more malty than hoppy. Not bad, but hardly something I'll buy again.

On tap at Ølmessen Nærbø, and Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.0%. Amber coloured beer, low head. Aroma of moderate fruity American hops - on the second tasting I also found aroma elements of Belgian saison yeast, maybe just my imagination, because I was misinformed about the yeast used here (no saison yeast has actually been used, only Ægir’s normal California ale yeast). The flavour is distinctly hoppy throughout (American hops again, Columbus if I remember correctly), but there are also some faint hints of farmhouse. A quite nice autumn beer.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger, as Ægir Hefeweissen (disregarding that someone can’t spell Hefeweizen, nor Hefe-Weissbier). Hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Strong and typical h.w.-aroma of ripe bananas, citrus and cloves. High level of carbonation. Refreshing wheaty flavour, banana and cloves again, not very sweet. Noticeable hops in the finish. A decent hefeweizen!

Moderate carbonation. Flavour also of citrus and tropical fruits, not too sweet, with a moderate to low bitterness in the finish. Refreshing.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 7.0%. Hazy orange colour, moderate white head. Aroma of citrus and pine, a hint of tropical fruits. Pleasant hoppy flavour on a sufficient base of malts, not too sweet, with a nice balance between citrus, pine / resin and tropical fruits.

500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Bottle conditioned, ABV is 6.5%. Deep golden colour to orange colour, big and lasting off-white head with an orangey hue. Nice aroma of American hops. The flavour has notes of orange marmalade and resin with a substantial hoppy bitterness, but it is not overdone. Medium sweetness. Grapefruity bitter and long aftertaste - and yngwie is right: there is actually a hint of camphor too!

440 ml can, as Ægir Juicy Fruktig IPA, from Helgø MENY Hundvåg. ABV is 4.7%. Hazy pale brownish golden colour, moderately hazy. Moderate white head. Pleasant aroma of lime and other citrus fruits, also notes of tropical fruits. Citric fruity flavour too, also notes of artificial fruit candy, a moderate piney bitterness in the finish. Overall refreshing and nice.

500 ml bottle, thanks to Beer_2000. Bottle conditioned. ABV is 4.7%. Amber to brown colour, large head with an orangey hue. Nice aroma of Christmas spices, toffee and some malts. The flavour also has Christmas spices and a moderate sweetness, but the mouthfeel is still very thin - too thin for a Christmas/Yule brew. Very moderate hops in the slightly metallic aftertaste, but this beer definitely needs more hops. Actually it needs more malts and more alcohol too!

500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Cloudy very dark brown colour, big to moderate creamy tan head. Nice aroma of malts, Christmas spices, brown sugar and some fruit. The flavour is malty sweet and rich with moderate notes of spices, dark dried fruits and brown sugar. There is a subtle acidity to balance the sweetness, but the hops are moderate. This is a very nice Yule/Christmas beer, will go better with fruit cake than the traditional Scandinavian Christmas dinner.

March 2022: 330 ml can, from Coop Mega Madla Handelslag. ABV is 4.7%. Deep reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head. Very nice aroma of malts and caramel, hints of roasted nuts. Malty flavour too, but not too sweet. Again notes of caramel and roasted nuts, moderate earthy hops in the finish.

Bottle, RBNAG 2009 in Vatlandsvåg. ABV was 6%. Orange to amber colour, low head. The aroma has notes of cinnamon and other undefined spices, some American hops. The flavour has notes of cinnamon, but they are not overdone, and blend in quite nicely with the malts and hops.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV was said to be 7%, possibly incorrect. If the two versions were labelled correctly: The Ægir version has a ruby colour (significantly paler than the Nøgne Ø version), The aroma is more moderate, but the notes of smoke are distinct. Drier flavour, more carbonation, medium sweet. More distinct notes of liquorice and smoke. Salty notes.

Fruity aroma (apples and citrus). The flavour is also fruity with some peppery hops. Like other kölsches it is a nice and refreshing beer, but not really very exciting. Might be a gateway beer for pale lager drinkers into the world of ales.

Strong sweetish aroma of malts, molasses, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, oak and American whiskey. The flavour has very much the same elements, but the Jack Daniels whiskey is even more in front now. This beer has earned its position in the Top Division of Norwegian beers!

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8%. Deep golden colour, low white head. Moderate "dusty" lager aroma, nothing exciting there. The flavour has a nice balance between the malts and hops, fairly easy drinking for its strength.

440 ml can, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.7%. Copper to amber colour, small and shortlived white head. Aroma of bread, caramel and raisins. Flavour of malts and bread, hints of caramel, but not very sweet. Moderate herbal hops, a little more would not hurt. A traditional Märzen should pack an ABV between 5.1% and 6.0%, 4.7% is just too modest.

500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10%. Black colour, big and lasting creamy tan head. The aroma is first surprisingly moderate, some roasty notes, mild coffee, hints of chocolate and liquorice. Improves as the beer warms up a little. Rich and warming mouthfeel. The flavour is roasty, malty and fairly sweet, notes of sweetened strong coffee, dark bitter chocolate and English liquorice, with a pronounced hoppy bitterness throughout. Alcohol is noticeable. Bitter aftertaste. A couple years in the cellar might be a good idea.
