4751 | Nøgne Ø Tiger Tripel | Norway | Abbey Tripel | 4.3
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.0%. Hazy brownish yellow colour, huge white head. Lovely aroma of Belgian ale yeast, fruits and spices. The flavour is fairly sweet (maybe a tad too sweet? - or maybe not) with a distinct spiciness, some fruit and noticeable hops. Good stuff. |

Pleasant and strong aroma of sea buckthorn, apple cider and brettanomyces, hints of oak. The flavour is fairly sour but not extreme, quite dry, notes of brett and sea buckthorn again, bitter aftertaste. |

4753 | Nøgne Ø Trippel | Norway | Abbey Tripel | 4.0
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 500 ml bottle conditioned. The Trippel is finally for sale in some pubs and restaurants, not yet in Vinmonopolet stores. The beer pours hazy golden with a moderate head which vanishes after a while and leaves very little lacing. Very pleasant yeasty and fruity aroma with notes of oak and spices, hints of barnyard in the background. Flavour is sweet (a bit too sweet?) with an oaky and moderately spicy character. A certain alcoholic punch, not unpleasant. Subtle hops in the finish. I started drinking the beer a little colder than the recommended temperature, but liked it that way. Clearly another craft brew from the good people at Nøgne Ø, but I’d suggest a slightly less generous amount of demerara sugar in the next batch. |

4754 | Nøgne Ø Two Captains Double IPA | Norway | Imperial IPA | 3.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.5%. This was originally the winner beer of the Norwegian Home Brewing Championship 2010, and it has been reported that Russian River Pliny the Elder was the inspiration for the recipe. Cloudy brownish colour, big and lasting off-white head. Very nice aroma of piny and fruity American hops (Columbus, Centennial and Simcoe). The flavour is first fruity and refreshing, then a massive hoppy and nearly medicinal bitterness sets in (bordering on "overkill"), and lasts through the long aftertaste. One for the hardcore hopheads. |

4755 | Nøgne Ø Tyttebær | Norway | Fruit Lambic | 3.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8%. Despite being brewed with some brettanomyces and bacteria, this is a Fruit Beer, not a Sour Ale. Starts pouring out of the bottle by its own will. Brownish red colour, moderate head. Pleasant aroma of "tyttebær" / lingonberries (= a kind of wild Nordic mountain / forest cranberries), also notes of "old farmhouse attic". The flavour has distinct notes of tyttebær, and is fairly dry, with a very moderate acidity (much less than expected). This is no fruit lambic. The finish is a bit "empty", I’d like some bitterness there. The 8% alcohol is nowhere to be found though - untill you rise from the chair ... If I did not know the ABV, I would recommend this as a nice refreshment beer after hard work, fridge cold. As it warms up, it does not improve, and while still being definitely drinkable, it does not quite live up to the high standards of Nøgne Ø. Should (and will) not be a permanent beer in the Nøgne Ø range. |

4756 | Nøgne Ø U.N.P.O.C. Quadrupel | Norway | Abbey Quadrupel | 3.9
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 10 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 500 ml bottle, as Nøgne Ø U.N.P.O.C. Quadrupel, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 13.0%, IBU 30. Very dark brown colour, minimal and shortlived tan head. Aroma of dark dried fruits, chocolate and caramel malts. Rich and warming mouthfeel. Sweet flavour with the same elements, also brown kandij sugar syrup and mild spices, moderate bittering hops. |

4757 | Nøgne Ø Underlig Jul | Norway | Spiced Beer | 4.2
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8 (Bottle conditioned, 500 ml). Another new Yule/Christmas beer from the craft brewers of Nøgne Ø. Very dark brown to ruby colour, decent head. Nice aroma of dark malts, caramel and spices (cardamom and cloves). Unashamedly sweet with a velvety mouthfeel, but not cloying. Rich and malty flavour with caramel, distinct cardamom and cloves (also some ginger and nutmeg??). Sufficient hops and spices in the aftertaste. Very good beer! I’m sure it’s nice enough with cookies, but definitely a treat on its own! |

4758 | Nøgne Ø Upper Middle Class Oblivion TDHNEIIPA | Norway | Imperial IPA | 4.0
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 March 2022: 500 ml bottle, batch #2546, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 12%, IBU 40. Cloudy orange to pale brown colour, moderate white head. Aroma of citric hops and yeast. Thick and warming mouthfeel. The flavour is a bit too far out on the sweet side, notes of brown sugar, malts, fruity hops (citrus, apricot, tropical fruits) and alcohol. Still eminently drinkable. |

4759 | Nøgne Ø Ut På Tur | Norway | Spiced Beer | 3.5
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Based on Nøgne Ø God Jul, matured with spruce and blended with a wild forest cranberry ("tyttebær") "lambic" (brettanomyces fermented). Very dark brown colour, nearly black, with a low beige head. Distinct notes of spruce in the aroma, also notes of fruit / berries, coffee, chocolate and liquorice. Very unusual flavour where the spruce and wild forest cranberries dominate, but I’m not entirely sure how well the various flavour elements really do blend. The mouthfeel is a bit fizzy. Still an interesting beer. |

4760 | Nøgne Ø Wegelage Kriek Reserve | Norway | Fruit Lambic | 4.1
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9 750 ml bottle. as Nøgne Ø Wegelage Kriek Reserve, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. (I also had a small sample on tap at Cardinal.) ABV is 11.5%, IBU 15. Very deep red colour, moderate to small pink head. Aroma of sweet and sour cherries, almonds and marzipan. Medium sour flavour with the same elements, oaky aftertaste. |

4761 | Nøgne Ø Weiss | Norway | Hefeweizen | 3.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 (Bottle conditioned, 500 ml). Rerate: This time I had the beer from a fresh batch, and the dead yeast aroma and flavour was gone. Instead the aroma and flavour were now overpowering yeasty - but from fresh yeast this time(which is not unpleasant). Far better, but I still think the brewers use too much yeast in this brew. But the head of this beer is less enormous when poured than many other weissbiers. So far the least interesting of the Nøgne Ø beers I've had. Original rating: (500 ml bottle). Thick sediment in bottle. Like the brewers recommend, I turned the bottle upside down a couple of times to get the maximum out of the yeast, but having my experience with the Wit in fresh memory, I waited a little longer before opening the bottle this time! Pours with a large head, but not quite as large as some other Weissbiers. Colour is cloudy golden. Weird aroma, not typical hefe. The cloves are there, but the dominant smell is of dead yeast. Must have been over the top, despite "brewed date" being 21.06.03, and "best before date" being 21.06.04. I have a few bottles left, think I'll leave the sediment alone in those. Flavour is OK, but nothing special. Drier than most German Hefeweizens. |

4762 | Nøgne Ø Wit | Norway | Witbier | 4.3
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9 (Bottle conditioned, 500 ml). Thick sediment in bottle. I turned the bottle upside down a couple of times, like the brewers recommend, to get maximum pleasure out of the yeast. The result was that my pants now have the unmistakenly typical witbier aroma of coriander, cloves, over-ripe bananas and orange peel. The rest of the beer hit my glass, and there the aroma was even better! After the ENORMOUS foamy head had subsided a little, I found out there was actually beer underneath - colour: Cloudy golden, nearly brownish. Flavour: Again typical wit - coriander, cloves and orange peel. Very refreshing. Moderate aftertaste. How wonderful that the "lager desert" of Norway now has an uncompromising micro brewery that DARE make good beer! |

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 Nov. 2016: 500 ml bottles, from Coop Extra Farsund and Kiwi Tau. ABV is 4.7%, bitterness 89 IBU. Hazy pale golden colour, huge white head. Pleasant aroma of fruity hops, notes of tropical fruits, hints of sprucetips. Fizzy mouthfeel. Yeasty flavour (obviously too much yeast in the bottle), very bitter (too bitter) hops. |

Opaque dirty yellow colour when the yeast is poured in, small and shortlived white head. Moderate aroma of wort, hints of citrus and coriander seeds. Soft mouthfeel, moderate carbonation. 4766 | Nøisom Bonfire Blonde Pale Ale | Norway | American Pale Ale | 2.6
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6 June 2017: 500 ml bottle, from a grocery store. ABV is 4.7%, 36 IBU. The bottle was not gushing, but when pouring the glass fills completely with white foam, and a pale yellow beer (slightly hazy) appears only very slowly underneath. Ridiculously overcarbonated! Aroma of moderately spicy yeast, some piney notes too. The dry flavour is piney with a faint hint of smoke. Won’t buy again. |

4767 | Nøisom Cascadian APA (5.7% version) | Norway | American Pale Ale | 3.1
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 Nov. 2013: 500 ml test bottle from the brewery. Batch #8. ABV is 5.7%. Golden colour, moderate white head. Moderate aroma of sweetish malts and fruity American hops, a hint of marmalade,a whiff of diacetyl. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour is moderately fruity and medium bitter, with some "dusty" notes in the background. Okay, but not quite there with the top ales of the style. |

4768 | Nøisom Cascadian APA 4.7% | Norway | American Pale Ale | 2.9
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 Nov. 2013: Shared 2 liter bottle / jug, at Mandag i Annen at Cardnal (so far not in ordinary sale there). ABV is 4.7%. Aroma and flavour more like a standard English bitter or golden ale, rather than an APA. Nothing wrong with it, but fairly bland and uninteresting. |

4769 | Nøisom Fusion Mango og Ananas | Norway | Fruit Beer | 1.8
Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 330 ml clear bottle, from Helgø Meny Bogafjell. ABV is 4.7%. Dirty greyish-orange colour, minimal head that disappears instantly. Aroma of over-ripe and decaying mango and pineapple, hints of vomit. The flavour is moderately sour and quite sweet, with notes of over-ripe mango and pineapple, and lactic acid. Hardly any bitterness, and overall very little here to remind you that this is a beer. |

4772 | Nøisom Julestout | Norway | Stout | 2.5
Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Egersund. ABV is 8.2%. Black colour, moderate beige head. Sourish aroma of malts, leftover cold coffee, decaying dark berries. Light bodied for its strength. Flavour of roast malts and coffee, prunes and liquorice, some bittering hops. Weird and unbalanced, the aroma ruins much of the pleasure. |

Aroma of alcohol, yeast, malts, caramel, banana. Sweet flavour (from the alcohol, according to the brewery - they insist on the beer being dry), over-ripe fruits, slightly sour, alcohol. Whatever they have tried to do here, they have not been very successful. |
