On tap at Bishop’s Arms Järntorget, Göteborg. Hazy, deep golden colour, moderate head. Lovely aroma and flavour of Amarillo hops, grapefruity and resinous notes. Very refreshing.

Bottle, RBESG 2005, Grand Tasting. Lovely hefe aroma (cloves, bananas) with a substantial contribution made by elderflowers. Flavour is again hefe with elderflowers. A quite nice beer this one!

On tap at The Rover, Göteborg. Amber colour, moderate head. Initially a strange aroma of sweaty socks, then some grapefruity hops come through. Flavour is malty and somewhat alcoholic with raisin notes. Quite sweet, more of a barleywine style.

Bottle, RBESG 2007 in Glasgow, Grand Tasting. Pitch black colour, creamy brown head. Very nice aroma of chocolate and roasted malts, hints of oak. Intensely rich and complex flavour: oaky, vinous, roasty, chocolate, liquorice. An excellent beer, but so is the "ordinary" Stormaktsporter.

On tap at HaandBryggeriet Beer Festival, Drammen. Pitch black colour, brown head. Lovely complex aroma, cognac, oak, vanilla, roasty notes (coffee, liquorice). Excellent flavour, medium sweet and distinctly roasty, notes of cognac, oak, coffee, caramel and liquorice. Top notch!

On tap at Plain Kitchen, Göteborg. Black colour, moderate tan head. Fairly strong roasty aroma, dark chocolate dominates. Flavour of roast malts, but also some sour & sweet notes. Chocolate in the finish. Quite good.

Bottle, RBESG 2005 Grand Tasting. Very nice hoppy aroma, citrus, pineapple. Flavour is dry and hoppy, light bodied, bitter aftertaste. Must be a great beer to drink when you have been working up a sweat doing farm work (or garden work) in the summertime.

On tap at The Rover, Göteborg. Copper coloured, low head. Nice nutty and hoppy aroma, notes of toffee and grapefruit. Hoppy flavour on a decent malty base, grapefruity elements, "dusty" hops in the finish, bitter aftertaste. A bitter well above average.

On tap at HaandBryggeriet Beer Festival, Drammen. Crimson colour, moderate off-white head. Strong aroma of sweet gale ("pors" in Norwegian). The flavour has also a sweet gale dominance throughout, some bitterness in the finish.

RBESG 2006 Grand Tasting. ABV was 9.0%. Pitch black colour, low tan head. Lovely vinous oaky aroma with raisins and roasty notes. Roasty flavour with coffee and oaky (fortified wine) notes. Simply an excellent beer from my favourite Swedish brewery.

RBESG 2006 Grand Tasting. ABV is 6.3%, OG is 1.070. Lovely chocolate aroma, roasty with notes of toffee too, hints of tar and liquorice. Flavour is malty and moderately roasty, pastry notes. Another fine beer from one of my favourite breweries.

May 2013: On tap at Haand Festival 2013, Drammen. Black colour, creamy tan head. Mild but pleasant roasty aroma, notes of dark chocolate and mild coffee. Very well balanced flavour, distinctly roasty without ever being rough and coarse, smooth coffee and dark chocolate again, decent hops throughout.

May 2020: 330 ml bottle, batch #31, from Det Gode Brygg, Kvadrat. ABV is 4.7%. Clear and very pale yellow colour, small white head. Aroma of dried apricots and apricot essence, a bit "artificial". The flavour has the same apricot notes on the base of a run-of-the-mill pilsener, too modest hops. Nothing here to write home about.

330 ml can, from the brewery store, shared by my son. ABV is 4.7%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Moderate off-white to beige head. Aroma of roast malts, mild coffee and piney hops. The dry flavour has the same elements, medium bitter finish. Light bodied.

May 2020: 330 ml bottle, batch #24, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 11.6%. Never mind that the guys at Nedstrand bryggeri can't spell "exaggeration", this appears as an interesting beer. Very dark brown colour, nearly black, with a moderate tan head. Malty aroma, notes of brown malts more than roast malts, hints of nuts. Smooth mouthfeel. Rich and malty flavour, some sweetness but not too much, with toasted and roasted malts, a hint of chocolate, decent hops, nicely balanced. Enjoyable to drink.

330 ml bottle, from Bunnpris, Sauda. Also bought at Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.7%. Golden colour, huge white head. Aroma of piney hops and orange marmalade. The flavour is mid between dry and sweet, notes of bitter oranges and pine needles, a distinct and sharp bitterness in the finish.

June 2019: Shared 330 ml bottle at local tasting. Moderate aroma of fruity and piney hops. Decent hops in the flavour too, but not as citrussy as expected, and the bitterness could be firmer.

440 ml can, batch #135, from Bunnpris Sauda. ABV is 4.7%. Slightly hazy pale golden colour, moderate to small white head. Nice aroma of spicy and herbal hops, a hint of citrus. The flavour is moderately citric and grainy, hints of yeast, not very bitter.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 5.9%. Murky yellow to orange colour, very shortlived head. Artificial aroma of peach and passionfruit, also lactic acid. Low carbonation, flat mouthfeel. Moderately sour flavour with peach, passionfruit and lactic acid. Won't buy again.
