4476 | Mort Subite Xtreme Kriek | Belgium | Fruit Lambic | 3.1
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 250 ml bottle, from Carrefour, Cartagena, Spain. ABV is 4.3%. Lambic brewed with 10% cherries and elderberries, sugar and sweetener. Gusher bottle. Red colour, moderate pinkish-white head. Intense aroma of preserved cherries and cherry candy. The flavour is intensely sweet and fruity, notes of cherry candy, but not very sour. Hints of marzipan. Good in its own perverted way - there is not much here to remind you that this actually is a beer, though. |

4477 | Morton Scottish Maiden | United Kingdom | Bitter | 2.9
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 April 2015: Cask stillage / gravity dispense, half pint, at The City Arms, Cardiff. Deep golden colour, slightly hazy. Minimal head. Sweetish malty aroma, notes of caramel and fudge. Caramel and fudge in the flavour too, but not overly sweet. The hops are very moderate though. |

4479 | Moss Juleøl (klasse D) | Norway | Dunkel / Dark Lager | 3.0
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 (330 ml bottle). Deep reddish brown colour, good head. Aroma is initially liquid dishwashing soap, later the malts come through. Flavour is very malty and a bit too sweet, calls for a higher ABV. Borg (Sarpsborg) make the Christmas beers of two closed Østfold county breweries, Moss and Fredrikstad, besides their own product. At least they have the decency to use different recipes, and not just change labels. |

4480 | Moss Pilsner (Original Mossepils) | Norway | Bohemian / Czech Pilsener | 2.4
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 4 330 ml brown bottle, bought at Berentsens Brygghus, Ølutsalget, Egersund. ABV is 4.7%. Brewed by Berentsens Brygghus according to old recipes from Moss Bryggeri. Very pale golden colour, big to moderate white head. Aroma of malts, baby porridge and cooked vegetables, reminds me of a n/a beer. Very little carbonation in the glass, soft mouthfeel. The flavour is fairly "neutral", with a very moderate malty sweetness and moderate hops. Far from undrinkable, but boring. I’d prefer Berentsens Rogalands Pils and Økologisk Pils to this one. I don’t really think it was a great service to the good people of Moss town to have this recipe revived. |

Won’t buy again. |

4482 | Møllebyen Juleøl | Norway | Scottish Ale | 3.5
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 On tap at the brewpub. The ABV (2007 batch) was said to be 5.0%. Beautiful dark ruby colour, low head. The aroma has dark fruits, moderate malts and hints of spices. The flavour has some burnt caramel and is fairly malty, with some smokiness and hints of tar, dry finish. Nice. |

4483 | Møllebyen Kong Carl | Norway | Pale Lager | 2.5
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 On tap at the brewpub, the ABV was said to be 4.3%. Is this really supposed to be a kölsch, or is it a pale lager? A "summer beer" ? - well, we had it on the 4th of January! Very pale golden colour, low head. Pleasant aroma of butterscotch (diacetyl). Notes of butterscotch in the flavour too, but very (too) light bodied, without sufficient hops. I had most of the beer with my burger and sweet chili sauce - the beer was definitely no match for the meal. |

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 On tap at the brewpub. ABV was said to be 4.7%. Black colour, dark ruby in the highlights, low head. Moderate roasty aroma, notes of chocolate. Roasty flavour, nice but fairly mellow, notes of chocolate but fairly dry. Good, but too "modest" in its touch. |

4486 | Møllebyen Vinterøl (Winter Ale) | Norway | Amber Ale | 3.9
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 On tap at the brewpub, ABV was 5.2%. "Orange brown" colour, low head. Lovely hoppy aroma (American hops), fruity / citrus / blackcurrants. The flavour has also a decent amount of American hops, decent malts too. A very nice and drinkable beer. |

4488 | Munkholm | Norway | Reduced Alcohol | 1.5
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 2 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 For a non-alcoholic beer (which in itself is a bad idea) this one at least has some traces of initial beer flavour, with an unpleasant medicine-like bitter finish. Good lasting head, weak aroma. Unless you INSIST on having a n/a beer, there's really no reason to sample this one. |

4490 | Munkholm Alkoholfritt Juleøl | Norway | Reduced Alcohol | 1.2
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 2 | Mouthfeel: 2 | Flavor: 2 | Overall: 2 (330 ml bottle). Ringnes' attempt at making a non-alcoholic Christmas/Yule beer. The result is as poor as Santa Clausthaler. Looks pretty good though - reddish colour, thick lasting head. Aroma has some malts on a sickly background of over-boiled vegetables. Flavour is blah! again: over-boiled vegetables and sickly sweet porridge with some caramel. Thin and watery mouthfeel. Aftertaste leaves a real nasty medicinal and metallic bitterness. Another truly miserable n/a beer! |

4492 | Munkholm Classic | Norway | Reduced Alcohol | 1.7
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 2 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 500 ml can. Pale golden colour, decent white head. The usual n/a sickly "boiled" notes (over-boiled vegetables, maize grit) in the aroma (and to some extent in the flavour too). The flavour also has some malty sweetness and noticeable hops, which means that the beer is not totally undrinkable. I’d be fairly desperate for something cold and wet if I ever buy this n/a beer again, though. |

4493 | Munkholm Cuba | Norway | Reduced Alcohol | 1.0
Aroma: 2 | Appearance: 2 | Mouthfeel: 2 | Flavor: 2 | Overall: 2 440 ml can. Extremely pale golden colour, moderate head. The usual Munkholm aroma and flavour of over-boiled vegetables, but less pronounced than in other Munkholm varieties. In addition we are blessed with the disgusting aroma and flavour of artifical "lime" and "mint". No body or any flavour besides that. Absolute and utter crap. Half of it went down the drain. |

4494 | Munkholm Hvete | Norway | Reduced Alcohol | 1.5
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 2 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 330 ml bottle. N/a beer with lactic acid and artifcial aroma added, hmmm..... Typical hefeweizen appearance, greyish pale yellow colour, large head. Weird aroma, reminds me of camomille shampoo, notes of ensilage and bouillion too. Camomille and soap is what I get in the flavour too, maybe a hint of carraway. A faint bitterness in the finish. Pretty bad n/a beer, but what could you expect? |

4495 | Munkholm Münchener | Norway | Reduced Alcohol | 1.8
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 500 ml can, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. This is not a "dark" n/a beer like the label says, it is a golden n/a beer, deep golden if you like. Fluffy white head. The aroma has some of the same sweetish and "boiled" notes of the other Munkholm beers (bad), but there are also some flowery aromatic hops around (good). Flavour is pretty sweet with some weak caramel notes, but there are just enough hops around to make the beer drinkable if cold. Hell, it’s a n/a beer, and you don’t expect much, but if you HAVE TO drive, or avoid alcohol of other reasons, this is the "best" Munkholm beer I’ve had so far. |

4496 | Munkholm Radler Smak av Bringebær & Sitron | Norway | Reduced Alcohol | 1.2
Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 2 | Flavor: 2 | Overall: 2 March 2024: 330 ml can, from Rema 1000 Jørpeland. Distributed by Ringnes, produced by Carlsberg Litauen. Slightlly hazy pink to red colour, small off-white to pink head. Intense aroma of real raspberries and artificial raspberry essence. Sweet and sugary flavour of artificial raspberry essence and glucose syrup. Hints of lemon and malts in the background. Not very pleasant to drink - won't buy again. |

4497 | Munkholm Sommerøl | Norway | Reduced Alcohol | 1.1
Aroma: 2 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 2 | Flavor: 2 | Overall: 2 (330 ml clear bottle). Very pale straw coloured, moderate head, very weak aroma but not offensive, flavour is close to zero, carbonated water with just some faint notes of malts and hops. Little aftertaste, the well known Munkholm metallicness is there, but not as dominant as in the ordinary Munkholm. I'd rather have carbonated water. Honestly, I would. |

4498 | Munkholm Spesial til julens fiskeretter | Norway | Reduced Alcohol | 1.7
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 2 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3 330 ml green bottle. Golden to amber colour, large and lingering head, slightly off-white. Aroma has more of the usual Munkholm "boiledness" (over-boiled vegetables or porridge) than the "Til julens kjøttretter"-variety has. Some fruity hints too. Flavour is relatively dry, notes of over-boiled vegetables, a tolerable bitterness in the finish. Not a drainpour, but not good either. |

4499 | Munkholm Spesial til julens kjøttretter | Norway | Reduced Alcohol | 2.1
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 3 330 ml green bottle. Looks rather good, brown colour, large and lingering off-white head. Tolerable malty aroma with hints of bakery and caramel, the usual Munkholm "boiledness" is subdued in the background. Acceptable (for a n/a beer, that is) flavour of malts with some burnt caramel notes, metallic hops in the finish. The "best" (= least miserable) of the Munkholm varieties so far. |

4500 | Murphy's Irish Red | Ireland | Irish Ale | 3.6
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml can, bought in Norway. ABV here is 4.7%, to permit the beer being sold in our grocery stores. Canned (and watered down?) in Norway by Hansa-Borg Bryggerier. Reddish brown colour, good head. Aroma is malty with caramel, hints of oak and spices. Full malty flavour, nicely rounded, hints of caramel and herbs. Aftertaste is not unpleasant, but short and a bit watery. This beer is better than I expected, and much better than Kilkenny. |
