4301 | Midtfyns Gunners Ale | Denmark | English Strong Ale | 3.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 Sample at Copenhagen Beer Festival. Amber colour. Malty character with some caramel and toffee, but lacks a fresh hoppy "bite", which is a bit surprising, as Styrian Goldings and Pilgrim ought to contribute to a "fresh" character. Too much crystal malts, not enough hops, perhaps? |

Nice aroma of mild coffee, chocolate and vanilla. The flavour is moderately roasty with notes of chocolate, mild coffee, vanilla and oak, hints of caramel and liquorice. 4305 | Midtfyns India Pale Ale | Denmark | IPA | 3.6
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.3%. Amber to brown colour, large off-white head. Fruity aroma, notes of marmalade, also malts and caramel. The flavour is malty and fairly sweet, some fruity hops, but not nearly as much as you expect in an American inspired IPA. Not unpleasant in any way, it’s just the "IPA" label that leaves you slightly disappointed. Hopheads should look to Midtfyns Double IPA in stead. |

4308 | Midtfyns Moulin Ale | Denmark | Scottish Ale | 3.6
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Draught at Carlsen’s Kvarter, Odense. Served too cold. Chestnut colour. Aroma and flavour are very fruity (plums), nearly acidic / vinegary. Decent maltiness, notes of English malt vinegar. Minimal hops. Refreshing and pleasant to drink. Acidic even in the finish, but a wormwoodlike bitterness pops up in the aftertaste. |

4309 | Midtfyns Påskebryg | Denmark | American Pale Ale | 3.1
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 500 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 6.8%. Deep golden colour, large white head. Aroma of butterscotch, caramel and fudge. The flavour has lots of butterscotch, probably some caramel malts but also diacetyl? Medium sweet, with moderate hops for balance. As they say the beer is "American inspired", it probably means that the hops are American, but the hops sure don’t dominate. And I doubt that American beer geeks would be very happy about the diacetyl ... Well, I for one do not get automatically hysterical when I detect butterscotch in beer, so I find Midtfyns Påskebryg quite drinkable. But as there are better beers available on the Norwegian market now, this is probably not one I’ll buy again. |

4310 | Midtfyns Rough Snuff Fisherman’s Ale | Denmark | Belgian Strong Ale | 2.8
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.5%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Big tan head. Weird and unpleasant sweetish aroma, strong notes of cough syrup, anise and tobacco. The flavour is somewhat better than the aroma, notes of dark malts, brown candi sugar, raisins and liquorice, the snuff tobacco is fairly moderate. Very moderate hops in the finish. Not a winner by me. |

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 500 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 9.0%. Nearly black colour, moderate beige head. Aroma of roast malts and piney and grapefruity American hops. The flavour is very well balanced between the malts and the hops, a slight sweetness but not too much, roasty notes with hints of coffee, dark chocolate and liquorice, followed by a distinct grapefruity and piney bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. Jolly good beer! |

4314 | Midus Trakai | Lithuania | Mead | 3.4
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Shared bottle at RBNAG 2011 in Oslo. ABV 15%. A still mead, golden colour. Strong aroma of honey and alcohol. Nice sweet honey flavour, a hint of fruitiness. As I’ve actually been to the (restored) old castle of Trakai many years ago, this mead brought back memories ... |

Lovely aroma of fruity and resinous American hops, malts in the background. Excellent and well balanced flavour, distinct American hops throughout, but not too extreme. 4325 | Mikkeller Beer Geek Bacon | Denmark | Smoked Ale | 4.2
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 500 ml unlabelled bottle, a gift from Mikkeller/Nøgne Ø via Cardinal. Black colour, big brown head. Strong roasty and smoky aroma, notes of tar and old rope rather than bacon (well yes, some uncooked bacon too). The flavour is roasty with notes of strong coffee, dark bitter chocolate and tar, also distinct smoky notes, but not quite as extreme as I expected. Hints of liquorice too, not very sweet. Ah, beer - so much more than a breakfast drink! |
