4202 | Mahou Clásica | Spain | Pale Lager | 3.1
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 440 ml bottle, as Mahou Clásica Original, from Super Cor, La Manga. ABV is 4.8%. Golden colour, pearly carbonation, moderate white head. Sweetish aroma, both malts and hops are noticeable, could be worse. Soft carbonation in the mouth. The flavour has also noticeable malts, the hops are moderate, but for a Spanish industrial lager this is not too bad at all. |

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 5.5%. Beautiful chestnut to ruby colour, creamy and lasting tan head. Moderate but pleasant roasty aroma, notes of bakery, coffee and liquorice. The flavour is roasty with notes of burnt bread crust and burnt sugar. Coffee and tolerable hops in the aftertaste. Not too bad for a Spanish beer. |

4210 | Maisel & Friends Hopfenreiter #8 Double IPA (2023) | Germany | Imperial IPA | 3.8
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7 330 ml bottle, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 8.5%. Moderately hazy orange to brown colour, large to moderate white head. Aroma of citrus, pine and orange marmalade, okay, but surprisingly little complexity of aromas from that many hop varieties. Medium sweet flavour, both malts and hops in abundancy, citric and piney notes, reasonably bitter. |

4211 | Maisels Weisse Alkoholfrei | Germany | Reduced Alcohol | 2.2
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 4 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Hazy brownish golden colour, big and lasting white head. The usual n/a beer aroma of baby porridge, but also notes of malts, with some wheaty hints of cloves. Soft mouthfeel, light bodied but tolerably refreshing when cold. The flavour has again notes of baby porridge, also over-boiled vegetables and dusty malts. A slight citrussy acidity. Minimal hops, bland finish. |

4212 | Maisels Weisse Original | Germany | Hefeweizen | 4.2
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 10 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 500 ml bottle, bought in Germany. ABV is 5.4%. Hazy amber colour, large slightly off-white head. "Absolutely fabulous" aroma, orgasmic in its abundancy of fruitiness and spiciness. Notes of leather too. Flavour is bit more restrained, still very nice with all the traditional hefe characteristics, wheaty and yeasty with cloves but also some caramel and brown bread. Aftertaste is, like with most wheat beers, very moderate but nice. Can you expect a hefeweizen to be much better than this? |

Aroma of roast malts, chocolate and mild coffee. Rich flavour with the same elements as the aroma, the coffee notes are now stronger, also distinct notes of bittering hops in the finish, some sweetness and a hint of smoke. |

4215 | Malheur 12 | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 3.9
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 250 ml bottle, bought in Frederikshavn, Denmark. Hazy dark brown colour, large tan head. Pleasant aroma of dark malts, hops, chocolate, oak and bakery. Flavour is heavy dark malts, sweet, oaky and spicy. Hoppy finish. Warming mouthfeel as expected from a 12% ABV beer, there’s a certain "raw" and alcoholic edge (not entirely pleasant) that probably would benefit from a few years in a cellar. Powerful stuff, with a potential for improvement! |

4216 | Malheur Bière Brut Reserve | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 3.9
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 750 ml "champagne" bottle, from Vinmonopolet (bestillingsutvalget). ABV is 11%. Pale yellow colour, slightly hazy, big white head. The aroma is yeasty and spicy, hints of fermenting fruits and horse blanket - good, but not as great as I expected. The flavour is moderately sweet, certainly not "brut", notes of white candi sugar and spices, with noticeable alcohol. Moderate hops. Again: good, but I hoped for more complexity. Probably worth the price in Belgium, but not in Norway (NOK 219). |

4217 | Malheur Brut Noir | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 4.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 750 ml dark green "champagne" bottle, as Malheur Dark Brut, from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo. ABV is 12%. Hazy dark brown colour, huge beige head. Fairly interesting aroma, malts, chocolate, Belgian ale yeast, stewed dark fruits, hints of farmhouse and spices. The flavour is medium sweet and malty with moderately roasty and chocolatey notes, also spices, notes of prunes and other dark fruits. Moderate hops. Some warmth, but the alcohol is otherwise well hidden. An unusual Belgian, complex and well balanced, a beer to savour - but the big bottle is for sharing! |

4218 | Malheur Cuvee Royale | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 3.8
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 750 ml dark green "champagne" bottle, as Malheur Cuvée Royale Brut Reserve, from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo (bought in October 2011). ABV is 9%. Hazy pale yellow colour, huge white head. Refined aroma of farmhouse (does that make sense?), farmhouse kitchen / brettanomyces, hints of oxidised fruits and mild spices. Crisp, medium dry and spicy flavour. Moderate hops. Well balanced, "refined" seems to be the right word for the flavour too. The alcohol is well hidden. Quite enjoyable. |
