3701 København Armstrong Denmark IPA 3.6

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

On tap at Copenhagen Beer Festival. Deep golden colour. Aroma more of caramel and toffee than hops, not unpleasant though - just a bit unexpected in an IPA. However, there are more hops in the flavour, which is quite nice. Fruity notes, hints of apricots, ending in a decent bitterness. Very drinkable.

3702 København VesterWeisse Denmark Hefeweizen 3.6

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Draught at the brewpub. ABV was said to be 4.7%. Cloudy brownish golden colour. Lovely yeasty hefe aroma, "banana split" caramel candy and cloves. Typical hefe flavour, fairly dry. Slightly too bland and watery. It being served ICE cold probably didn’t help.

3703 Kragelund American Pale Ale Denmark American Pale Ale 3.9

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 5.5%. Some sediment in the bottle. Clear amber colour (cloudy when the yeast is poured in), moderate off-white head. Lovely fruity / citrussy aroma of Cascade hops. Refreshing flavour, distinct Cascade hops throughout, on a background of moderate malty sweetness, distinct bitterness in the finish. Very enjoyable.

3704 Kragelund Extra Special Bitter Denmark Extra Special Bitter 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

500 ml bottle. as Kragelund ESB, from Voldby Købmandsgård. Batch No. 40. ABV is 5.6%. Amber colour, slightly hazy, large off-white head. Moderate but nice aroma, notes of herbal and fruity hops. The flavour has a fairly decent balance between the malts and hops, some sweetness in the middle, and the typical East Kent Goldings dry and "dusty" finish. Distinctly bitter aftertaste.

3705 Kragerø Pilsner Norway Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 2.6

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

500 ml can. Contract brewed by Trio Bryggeri for Libo Trading (trade mark owner). I wouldn’t bet that this isn’t a re-label of Trio’s ordinary pilsner, but I can’t do a side-by-side comparison, so I can’t really tell. Like Trio Pilsner: Pale golden colour, moderate head. Run of the mill pils, "neutral" flavour, thin mouthfeel. Nothing to write home about.

3706 Krajan Czarny Kon Ciemne (Irlandzkie Mocne) Poland Dunkel / Dark Lager 3.2

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

RBESG 2006 Grand Tasting, as Krajan Irlandzkie Mocne. ABV is 6.5%, malt content is 14%. Malty sweet aroma and flavour, bready and pastry notes. Okay, but too sweet and one-dimensional to make me excited.

3708 Kraus Hirschaid Pils Germany Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 2.9

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

500 ml brown bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 4.7%. Pale golden colour, decent head. Unusual aroma for a German pils: butterscotch, boiled vegetables, rotting grass, some malts. Where are the aromatic hops? Aroma gets slightly better as the beer warms up a little, and the butterscotch dominates. Flavour is somewhat better than the aroma, there’s a certain hoppy bitterness on a moderate and slightly sweet malty base, hints of butterscotch in the background. Drinkable, but Kraus Lager is better!

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Rerate, June 2019: 500 ml swingtop bottle, from Det Gode Brygg, Sandnes. ABV is 4.7%. Golden colour, large white head. Aroma of malts, honey, flowers and grass. Moderately sweet but still refreshing flavour, notes of malts and honey, hints of caramel, moderate hops. Original rating 2005: 500 ml bottle, many thanks to Gr0ve who supplied it to me from SmartClub Norway. Golden colour, moderate head. Moderate carbonation, good mouthfeel. Pleasant malty sweet aroma with strong notes of butterscotch and honey. Flavour has also butterscotch notes, but also a decent hoppy bitterness well balanced with the malts. Very drinkable.

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet Kvadrat. ABV is 8%. Nearly clear orange colour, large white head. A slight haziness when the yeast is poured in the end. Nice aroma of tangerine and orange marmalade, a hint of crushed gooseberries and kiwi fruit. Flavour of oranges (incl. bitter Seville), piney bittering hops in the finish. More of a West Coast IPA than a double NEIPA in my book, but who cares, as long as it tastes good?

500 ml bottle, from Dagli’brugsen Skødstrup. ABV is 6.5%. Deep reddish brown colour, huge orangey-beige head of good retention. Very nice aroma of spices, Belgian ale yeast, caramel malts and brown kandij sugar. The flavour is moderately malty, not too sweet, with spicy notes, also notes of dark dried fruits and caramel, hints of oak. The mouthfeel could have been fuller, but this is still a remarkably drinkable beer.

3722 Krombacher Pils Germany Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 3.3

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

I used to think that this was one of the best classic German pilseners I've had. I will need to re-rate soon to find out if my taste has changed. I suspect it will have - a brewery that spends that much money on advertising and sports sponsoring should always be regarded with some sound scepticism.

3724 Kronenbourg France Pale Lager 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Average French lager - easily drinkable, but Kronenbourg 1664 is better. Light bodied, nothing offensive, nothing remarkable. This has for decades been the standard pale lager you get on tap everywhere in France, but 1664 seems to taking over more and more, esp. internationally.
