750 ml bottle, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 5.8%. Nearly clear golden colour, large to moderate white head. Aroma of spicy saison yeast, also notes of spicy hops. Moderately acidic flavour, notes of lemons, spicy yeast and moderate spicy hops. Too yeasty and acidic for me.

3477 Jester King Black Metal Farmhouse Imperial Stout United States Imperial Stout 4.2

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 10 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

750 ml bottle, batch #15, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.3%, OG 1085, FG 1015, IBU 44. Pitch black colour (one of the darkest beers I’ve seen), large and impressive head with colour somewhere between coke grey and brown. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, leather and chocolate, mixed with acidic and "farmhouse" notes of brettanomyces. The flavour is rich and medium sweet, with some fruity acidity, but is first and foremost dominated by roasty notes of coffee, hints of dark bitter chocolate and black pepper. Great stuff.

3478 Jester King Black Metal Imperial Stout United States Imperial Stout 4.1

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Shared bottle at local tasting. Pitch black beer with a moderate tan head. Roasty and malty aroma and flavour, with notes of strong coffee, liquorice and dark bitter chocolate. Rich and full mouthfeel, warming, maybe a bit too much carbonation. Medium bitterness in the finish. All in all mighty impressive.

3480 Jester King Wytchmaker Farmhouse Rye India Pale Ale United States IPA 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Sample from bottle, RBNG 2014 in Halden, Grand Tasting. Cloudy golden colour, huge white head. Typical American IPA with its hoppy character in both aroma and flavour - I did not quite get the farmhouse notes, but it had been a long day ...

3481 Jever Fun Germany Reduced Alcohol 2.2

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 4

330 ml green bottle, bought in Sweden. Non-alcoholic. Crystal clear pale yellow colour, big and lasting white head. The aroma has first a fresh "skunky" whiff when opening the bottle, then the usual n/a beer notes of over-boiled vegetables and baby porridge. Also some sweetish notes of candy, hints of grassy hops. Fairly thin mouthfeel, as expected. The flavour is moderately citrussy and grassy, making the beer quite drinkable and refreshing - for a n/a beer, that is. Hints of hoppy bitterness in the aftertaste. Could have been worse.

3483 Jever Pilsener Germany Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 3.3

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

This is a crisp German pilsener with a considerable hoppy bitterness. Been a while since I had it, can't get it in Norway so far. Rerate on tap in Hamburg: Light bodied, but dominated by a distinct hoppy bitterness from start to finish. Typical Northern German pilsener style.

3484 Jihlavsky Grand 18% Czech Republic Strong Lager 3.8

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

500 ml bottle, bought at Pivni Galerie, Prague. ABV is 8.0%. Golden colour, moderate head. Nice hoppy aroma, notes of caramel and berries. Flavour is hoppy (plenty of Saaz and probably other hops too) and moderately alcoholic (as expected from an 8% beer), but malty enough to sustain the hops and alcohol. Moderate sweetness throughout. Way ahead of most other high ABV golden lagers I’ve tasted.

3485 John Martins Pale Ale Belgium English Pale Ale 3.2

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6

33 cl bottle, now available in Norway. Website www.anthonymartin.be Deep golden nearly orange colour. Large head. Aroma of sweet malts, molasses and rotting fruits, hints of spices and leather. Flavour is well hopped, but unfortunately there is an everpresent molasses and dark syrup sweetness in the background, making the beer too cloying to be something I’ll buy again when I have finished my 4 bottles.

3486 John Smiths Extra Smooth United Kingdom Bitter 3.2

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

A very smooth and drinkable 'bitter', perhaps without too much character. Still, I openly admit enjoying it! Rerate nitro-can: Delete the 'perhaps' - it's DEFINITELY without too much character. I over-rated this brew the first time. It's still drinkable, but far from great!

(Cask conditioned in Bishop Auckland). A beer in the Northeastern English style, I believe. Dark brown, low head, good lacing. Malty aroma. Rather sweet, smooth, low bitterness.

This nitro-can beer is the same as the John Smith's Extra Smooth. The ABV may vary a little depending on where it's being marketed. Aroma of farmhouse kitchen, oaked apple cider and apple cider vinegar, white wine vinegar, citrus and green peppercorns. 3492 Jolly Pumpkin / Nøgne Ø / Stone Collababeire Special Holiday Ale United States Spiced Beer 3.4

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

750 ml bottle, blend 4, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9%. Cloudy dark brown colour, moderate beige head. Some sediment in the bottle, you’re in for floaties if you pour too vigorously in the end. Strong sourish and vinous aroma, with notes of Flemish red ales and red wine vinegar. Sour flavour with notes of oak, red wine vinegar, herbs and spices, noticeable hops in the finish. Quite interesting, but requires that you’re into the sour stuff.

3493 Jolly Pumpkin / Nøgne Ø / Stone Special Holiday Ale United States Spiced Beer 4.2

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

12 fl. oz. bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.0%. Bottle conditioned. Chestnut coloured beer, huge and creamy lasting tan head. Nice aroma of caramel, spices and dark fruits. Rich and full mouthfeel. The flavour is malty, rich and sweet, with loads of spices - but I’d have trouble identifying which ones, if I didn’t know. I would also have guessed that there was some aniseed or liquorice in there. There is a distinct hoppy bitterness and more spices in the finish. Interesting stuff!
