500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Batch #465. ABV is 9.0%. Golden colour, slightly hazy. Pours very fizzy with a huge white head. Very fruity and spicy aroma, notes of strawberries and cloves. The flavour is quite sweet, again very fruity and moderately spicy, with discrete hops in the background. Warming mouthfeel.

Shared bottle at local tasting. Black colour, moderate brown head. Strong roasty aroma, notes of coffee, tar, smoke and old rope. Smoky and tarry flavour, quite dry. Salty finish. A bit too much for me. The cognac barrel aged version was more pleasant to drink.

Sample from bottle at Copenhagen Beer Festival. Black colour. Strong aroma of cognac oak barrel, roasted malts and smoke. Excellent flavour, oak and cognac up front, roasted malts and smoke in the background, ending in a decent bitterness.

500 ml bottle, batch #776, will soon be available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.5%. Unfiltered and unpasteurised. Slightly hazy golden colour, moderate to low white head. Strong floral and herbal aroma, lovely. Refreshing flavour, some sweetness but not too much, herbal and floral notes throughout, a moderate but distinct hoppy bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. A really well made beer, might well be my favourite beer this spring and summer.

At Copenhagen Beer Festival. Pitch black colour. Much the same as Hr. Frederiksen, only a little sweeter, less alcoholic and slightly less bitter. Roasty coffee notes dominant in both aroma and flavour, also notes of chocolate and vanilla. Smooth and very enjoyable.

330 ml can, from BilkaToGo, Skalborg. ABV is 7.5%. Hazy golden colour, moderate to small white head. "West Coast IPA" aroma, with notes of orange marmalade, grapefruit and pine / resin. The flavour has the same elements, but is fairly dry, and has a reasonably bitter finish. Not too fizzy, nice beer.

250 ml bottle, as Amager Hr. Papsø Quadruple Aged on Bourbon Barrels, from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. Batch #97, ABV is 12%. Cloudy dark brown colour, moderate to low beige head. Intense sweetish aroma of malt sugar, molasses, bourbon, vanilla and oak. The flavour is medium sweet, not as intensely sweet as I feared. Notes of oak, molasses, bourbon and vanilla again. Moderate hops. A decent dessert beer - well rounded, like Mr. Papsø himself .

375 ml corked & caged green bottle, batch #247, from the brewery. BB date Dec. 2020. ABV is 13.2%. Cloudy dark brown colour, low beige head dies out instantly. Strong sweetish aroma of oak, malts, molasses and fusel alcohols, also notes of raisins and other dark dried fruits. Very moderate carbonation in the mouth, warming mouthfeel. The fairly sweet flavour has notes of oak, malts, fortified wine and dark dried fruits, also herbs and spices. No acidity, not much sign of brett here.

500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. Batch #150. ABV is 10.01%. Pitch black colour, impressive brown head. Lovely aroma of hops, heavily roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate, hints of vanilla. The flavour has an intense bitterness from start to finish, both from the hops and the roasted malts - too much hoppy bitterness for mye taste, as it overshades the finer tones of 8 different malts. Also burnt notes, and notes of too strong coffee. Not enough sweetness to balance the bitterness. Ashy aftertaste.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Deep amber to brown colour, slightly hazy. Creamy off-white head. Lovely hoppy aroma, fruity notes (citrus, tropical fruits), also notes of spruce and pine. The flavour is a veritable hoppy explosion throughout, with a massive bitterness in the long aftertaste. Sufficient malty backbone. Another good one for the hopheads!

Attractive aroma of fruity American hops, also notes of spruce. The medium dry flavour is dominated by American hops throughout, fruity first, then resinous, and with a sharp bitterness in the finish and aftertaste.

330 ml can, batch #2873, from BilkaToGo, Skalborg. ABV is 4.5%. Hazy golden colour, moderate to small white head. Interesting aroma of spicy and fruity hops, notes of yellow stonefruits, pine, juniper and spruce. Light bodied as expected, citric and fizzy mouthfeel. Citric flavour, also the same elements as the aroma. The finish seems more bitter than 22 IBU. Good beer.

Jan. 2016: 500 ml bottle, batch #1101, will soon be available (also on tap) at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.5%. Hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Lovely aroma of lychee, passion fruit and citrus, also a hint of pine. Medium body. The flavour has a slight sweetness, and distinct hops throughout. Notes of tropical fruits, citrus, lemongrass and dill, pine / resin in the finish and aftertaste. Good beer. Certainly no "cream ale", but a more than decent APA.

Bottle, kindly shared by my beerpal Christian. ABV is 10.5%, IBU 90+. Hazy dark brown colour, moderate beige head. Intense aroma of bourbon barrel (vanilla and oak). Very oaky flavour, the alcohol is noticeable. Bitter finish and aftertaste.

At Copenhagen Beer Festival. Black colour. Moderate roasty (coffee) notes in both aroma and flavour, hints of rye bread. Drinkable, absolutely nothing wrong with it, but as this is Amager, I expected something even better. BTW, we brewed a homebrew porter last year with exactly the same ratio of rye malts in it, and thought it was better than this. Did not taste them side by side, though - and we might have been slightly biased, or slightly drunk ...

July 2012. 500 ml bottle, batch # 449, will soon be available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 3.5%. 35 IBU. Golden colour, slightly hazy. Large white head. Pleasant aroma of citrus, tropical fruits and spruce. Light bodied, refreshing. Dry flavour, some mild roasty notes, hints of coffee (unexpected in a beer this pale), well hopped throughout, notes of citrus and spruce again. An excellent summer thirstquencher!

Moderate aroma of roasted malts, some fruity hints, also hints of woodwork and ashes. Fizzy mouthfeel. Dry and roasty flavour., notes of coffee and woodwork. A bit too dry for me to give a "top mark". Roasty and bitter aftertaste.

May 2014: 500 ml bottle, batch #571, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.0%. Hazy dark reddish brown colour, moderate to low off-white head. Strong aroma of port wine, oak, raisins and dried figs, hints of fruity hops. Sweet flavour, distinct notes of port wine, oak, raisins and other dark dried fruits, moderate hops. One to savour slowly.

July 2012: Rerate, 500 ml bottle, batch #437, will soon be available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.4%. Deep golden to orange colour, large white head. The aroma is more piney and resinous, tropical fruits are more subdued, notes of orange marmalade. The flavour is medium sweet, notes of orange marmalade again, and of course a solid hoppy bitterness throughout. Hops are Hercules, Citra, Simcoe, Centennial, Amarillo and Sorachi Ace. Original rating: Sample at Copenhagen Beer Festival. Hazy orange colour. Lovely aroma of fruity (tropical fruits) hops, piney / spruce / resin too. The flavour has the same elements as the aroma, with a solid bitterness in the finish. Good beer.

500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.6%. Pale golden colour, large white head. Typical German pilsener aroma, German hops with herbal, grassy and floral notes. Some sweetish malty notes too. Fairly crisp and fresh flavour, distinct German hops, but with more malty sweetness than you’ll find in most German pilseners. Clearly better than industrial pilseners, but probably overpriced - this is all about greed, remember ...

Copper to deep brown colour, clear first, hazy when the the yeast is poured in the end. Large head, slightly off-white. Pleasant malty aroma with notes of caramel and brown sugar, hints of mild spices. Very sweet flavour, plenty of caramel, brown kandij sugar and molasses, hints of chocolate and mild spices. Spicy and moderately hoppy (Northern Brewer and Saaz) finish. Original rating: Sample at Copenhagen Beer Festival. Hazy brown colour. Sweetish malty and mildly spicy aroma. Sweet flavour, loads of kandij sugar, mild spicy notes. Too sweet perhaps?

February 2013: Rerate, 500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Batch No. 511. ABV is 10.0%. Pitch black colour, large brown head. Nice roasty aroma, notes of exotic woodwork, coffee, liquorice and dark chocolate. The flavour is roasty, malty and quite sweet, notes of sweetened strong coffee, chocolate and liquorice, some spicy notes. Bitter hops in the finish. First impression: Powerful - spicy - roasty - impressive - very tasty!

July 2012: 500 ml bottle, batch #435, will soon be available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.0%. Pale golden colour, large and lasting white head. Intense aroma of Simcoe hops, notes of citrus, peaches and tropical fruits, hints of resin and catpiss. Light bodied. The flavour is dominated by Simcoe hops from start to finish, with resinous and citrussy notes. Very bitter finish and aftertaste, nearly medicinal. It would probably be a better idea to use pale ale malts instead of pilsner malts in this beer. Very tasty as it is, though.
