On tap at ZIP 4020. Opaque yellow colour, moderate white head. Pleasant juicy aroma and flavour of citrus and tropical fruits, some sweetness but not too much, moderate to low bitterness, hints of pine needles, well balanced. Lovely to drink in the sunshine on the patio at Stadionparken.

330 ml can, as Jåttå Fatnissen Helnorsk Barrel Edition, from Vinmonopolet Egersund. ABV is 9%. Black colour, minimal tan head. Aroma of roast malts, dust, dark chocolate and oak. Flavour of moderately roasted malts, chocolate, prunes, raisins, bourbon and oak.

November 2018: On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Amber colour, large head, slightly off-white. Aroma of amber malts, fruity hops and juniper berries. The flavour is slightly more dry than sweet, with fairly distinct hops, sufficient malts with roasty hints, and discrete juniper berries. Well balanced and very drinkable.

February 2021: 330 ml bottle, batch #146, from Vinmonopolet Kvadrat. ABV is 9%. Nearly black colour, huge beige to tan head. Aroma of moderately roasted malts, chocolate, oatmeal / porridge, mild coffee and prunes. The flavour has a fairly distinct fruity acidity, notes of plums and prunes, possibly from the kveik, not sure if this is intended. Otherwise the same elements as the aroma, low bitterness.

330 ml can, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. Also available at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 4.7%. Not a bock, but a dunkel. Beautiful clear and deep chestnut colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma and flavour of malts, nuts and caramel. Hints of burnt breadcrumbs. Low bitterness.

330 ml can, batch #197, from Coop Mega Madla Handelslag. ABV is 4.7%. Slightly hazy pale golden colour, moderate white head. Nice aroma of kveik (Norwegian farmhouse yeast), notes of ripe and over-ripe yellow plums, sultanas, hay and a hint of oatmeal. The flavour is moderately citric, hints of yellow plums again with a moderate fruity acidity, the bitterness is very low and the finish short.

Aroma of orange marmalade, also notes of other citrus fruits, pine and spruce, a hint of caramel. The flavour has notes of pine needles and caramelized orange marmalade, medium bitter finish.

330 ml can, from Vinmonopolet Ølen. ABV is 6%. Opaque yellow colour, small and shortlived white head. Aroma of papaya and guava, hints of grain, oatmeal and lactose. The flavour has notes of lactose, citrus, pineapple, papaya and guava, hints of oatmeal. Low bitterness. Could have been better.

On tap at Zip 4020, before the soccer match Viking - HamKam. Slightly hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Moderate aroma of pilsener malts and herbal hops. Nice and "clean" pilsener flavour, with a decent balance between the malts and hops. Better than I feared (yes, I was thirsty, and the beer was cold).

500 ml bottle, from Voldy Købmandsgård. Brewed with organic barley malts and oats. ABV is 5.5%. Deep brown colour, big and lasting beige head. Strong aroma of caramel, also hints of brown bread, nuts and over-ripe peaches. The flavour is malty, bready, nutty and mellow, notes of caramel but not too sweet, with very subdued hops that still are noticeable in the aftertaste. Fairly decent beer.

500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 6.8%. Brown colour, huge off-white head. Malty aroma with notes of brown bread, caramel and slightly stale strawberry jam. Fairly light bodied for its strength. Moderately malty flavour, notes of brown bread and caramel. Not much of a hoppy bite, but definitely drinkable. As far as dubbels go, there are many "real" Belgian specimens that are better, though.

500 ml can, bought in France. ABV is 7.5%. Deep amber colour, nearly clear. Large off-white head. Pleasant malty aroma with notes of aromatic hops, leather and oak. Malty and oaky flavour with tolerable hops, notes of toffee and caramel. Not bad at all for a canned beer!

June 2013: Shared 750 ml green corked "champagne" bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgaard. Reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head. Moderate but nice aroma, malts, herbal hops and a hint of caramel. Harmonious flavour, not very sweet, herbal hops, highly drinkable. Better suited to accompany Christmas dinner than its sweeter Belgian counterparts.

500 ml bottle, bought at Newcastle Intl Airport. ABV is 3.5%. Copper colour, moderate off-white head. Moderate aroma with some malty and nutty notes, hints of caramel and English hops. Light bodied, as expected from a 3.5% beer, but the fairly dry flavour has some nutty malts, a slight acidity, and a distinct and slightly metallic hoppy bitterness in the finish.

500 ml bottle, bought in London. ABV is 4.2%. Deep golden colour, large white head. Aroma of blackcurrants and blackcurrant leaves, a hint of toffee. . The flavour is medium dry with a slight fruitiness, which makes it quite drinkable. Decent hops in the finish, become sharpish in the aftertaste.

500 ml green bottle, as Jennings Cumberland Ale, from MENY Stadionparken, Stavanger. ABV is 4,7%. Deep golden colour, moderate white head. Moderate aroma of "dusty" hops, hints of toffee. Fairly refreshing flavour, dry hops on a background of subtle malts and a hint of fruit. Bitter aftertaste with some unpleasant metallic notes. Cask half pint, at The Lamplighter, St. Helier. Copper colour, white head. Moderate aroma. Malty flavour, with sharpish and slightly metallic hops in the finish.

500 ml bottle, bought at Newcastle Intl Airport. ABV is 4.2%. Deep golden colour, large white head. Nice aroma of floral and herbal hops. Soft mouthfeel. The medium dry and refreshing flavour has some malts with hints of toffee and nuts, also some herbal hops, but the bitterness is quite moderate.

500 ml bottle, bought at Newcastle Intl Airport. ABV is 5.1%. Chestnut colour, big beige head. Aroma of lightly roasted and dry malts, a touch of caramel and spices, hints of cold coffee. The flavour is medium dry with hints of caramel and dark fruits, again lightly roasted malts with a roasty ("coffee") and hoppy bitterness in the finish. Very drinkable.

Cask pint at the Sand Martin (a Marston’s pub), Cardiff. Jennings was not mentioned on the pump clip, but the bartender said they were the brewery. Deep golden colour, moderate and lasting creamy white head. Malty and slightly nutty flavour, tolerable English hops and a hint of malt vinegar in the finish.

Cask half pint at JDW, Victoria Station, London. ABV was 4.3%. Copper colour, moderate white head. Smooth and malty aroma and flavour, not sweet, biscuity. No off-flavours, but not very interesting.

Rerate, cask half pint at The Lamplighter, St Helier. Served at correct cellar temperature. Golden colour, nice lacing. Moderate hops in the aroma. Tingling hops in the fairly dry and pleasant flavour, some fruit. I'm upping the score a bit. Original rating: Cask pint at the Ship & Crown, St. Peter’s Port, Guernsey. Golden colour, low white head. Very moderate aroma, not as hoppy as expected. Decent hops throughout in the flavour, some malts too. Smooth to drink. (Score: 3.1).

Sample at Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Smokey, peppery and roasty aroma, balanced by sweetish malty notes, lovely. Sweet, malty and roasty flavour, the smokey and peppery notes are fairly moderate, the coffee notes linger in the aftertaste. A pretty impressive beer.
