2876 Guinness Draught Ireland Dry Stout 3.9

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

To the best of my knowledge, this is the same beer as Guinness Draught (can), with a nitrogen-widget in the bottle. I had it served at an Angus Steak House outlet in London, poured in a glass (drinking a nitro-beer straight from the bottle? - what an idea!!). Smooth and pleasant to drink, with the usual Guinness coffee-like roastiness.

2877 Guinness Draught (Can) Ireland Dry Stout 4.2

Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Always a winner! - at least when the alternatives are average lagers. The bitter and coffee-like aftertaste may not be a favourite with everyone. Rerate: Well, I'll never turn down a Guinness - but still has to take off a few points. It's good, but not THAT good!

2879 Guinness Dublin Porter Ireland Porter 3.0

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Keg pint at the Owain Glyndwr, Cardiff. Served too cold. Dark ruby colour, nearly black. Small off-white to beige head (not nitro). Very moderate aroma, roast malts and burnt potato skin. The flavour has notes of moderately roasted malt, quite dry, hints of smoked meat and burnt potato skin. Light bodied. Not great, but far from undrinkable.

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7

330 ml bottle, at the GBBF 2008. ABV was 7.5%. Served too cold. Pitch black colour, moderate head. Roasty aroma, notes of rubber, malts and coffee. The flavour is heavily roasted / burnt with grainy and rubbery notes - quite strange. I hate it and love it - simultaneously.

Keg pint at Beaumont House, Dublin. Black colour, the standard Guinness nitro head. Aroma and flavour nearly indiscernible from the regular Guinness. Much better than I feared.

2887 Guinness Original (bottle) Ireland Dry Stout 4.1

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

I too prefer the draught version (nitro can incl.)- but still the original is very, very good! Try it with bacon and eggs - makes you want to eat breakfast all day.

2888 Guinness Rye Pale Ale Ireland Rye Beer 1.9

Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3

500 ml bottle, from Tesco Express, Belfast. ABV is 5%. Deep golden to amber colour, moderate white head. Meaty aroma, notes of broth - weird. Bland and boring dry flavour - weak malts, and no sign of the Mosaic and Cascade hops. What a sick joke!

2889 Guinness Special Export (Belgian version) Ireland Foreign / Extra Stout 4.5

Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9

330 ml bottle, bought at Selfridge’s, London. Black (= very dark brown) colour. Truly impressive large and thick brown head. Aroma of malts, oak, leather, coffee and dark chocolate. Flavour is overwhelmingly bitter from the roasted barley and hops, but also sweeter than regular Guinness. Elements of very strong coffee, hints of bitter chocolate. Bitterness lasts through the long aftertaste. Not for beginners. The crowd who think nitro draught Guinness is "sooo strong" should try this one!

On tap it's a safe bet, easily available - for most people Irish stout = Guinness, but if given the choice I actually prefer Beamish.

Vinous and malty aroma, notes of lightly roasted malts, cheap red wine and dark dried fruits. The flavour has the same elements as the aroma, not too sweet, not too heavy, moderate to low bitterness. Not your usual imperial stout, but interesting and nice to drink.

2899 Gulpener Korenwolf Netherlands Witbier 3.7

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Rerate, 500 ml can, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5%. Cloudy / milky yellow colour, large to moderate white head. Strong sweetish and spicy aroma, notes of elderflowers, bananas, bubble gum, citrus, coriander and cloves. The flavour is wheaty and refreshing, notes of banana, cloves and herbs. Very moderate hops. Original rating: I got this served in the Amsterdam Arena restaurant in Holland (from bottle) with a slice of lemon in the glass, but suspect it would have a slightly citrussy aroma and flavour even without the slice. Very refreshing, but not enough to be ecstatic about. A bonus point for the cute hamster on the bottle!
